Some teams will have the players to stifle our high line and aggressive defending from the front. Those teams with quick counter attacking players or those that play hoofball are more likely to succeed against us. Having said that we have started to eliminate the individual errors that have cost us points, although Hoiveld still manged to slip on Saturday !! Defensively Reading are shambolic and with our pressing game I can see them making many mistakes to allow to score two or more. I think this game will demonstarte that we can not only beat the big boys but also show that we can claim victories against the basement boys as well, whoever, is in charge for the opposition. In any event we know that Reading have to come at us so that should play into our hands.

I seem to remember a similar tone on here prior to QPR at home, 5-0, in your face 'arry etc. just saying :)

 

Although I agree it won't be a walkover, they won't sit back and put 11 men behind the ball and play on the counter. Nor do they have much pace. We really should be winning this, they are very poor make no mistake. Professional job needed.

Although I would love us to smash them I will be really happy with a point,this has trouble written all over it and we need to play our game and not get dragged into all the media ****** surrounding it.

What I don't want to see is our fans constantly licking Adkins arse throughout the game,ok give him an acknowledgment at the start then leave it,he's moved on and so have we for the better.

I'm hoping Adkins has one of his baffling moments that used to frequent our performances under him,like taking your best players off at crucial stages of the game to be replaced by unknown or untested players or leaving his best players on the bench etc etc

oh....hang on... that was 12 months ago and we all know how that went, so perhaps I'll stick $20 on a Reading win this time....

 

If we lose this one then it's typical Saints...if we DO actually win, then perhaps we really will have turned a corner in the professionalism stakes :)

Hope we sing NAs name before game and show respect on tv. Anyone who thinks that will affect our performance must think we are a pretty fragile bunch

Every sign & portent spells doom. Not just the NA, previous games omens, but even the omens over here.

 

Eric's first game in the pub for a couple of weeks - he has missed all our demolitions of the Top Teams through work.

Damascus Saint coming to the game - has never seen us win.

FMDP's last game of the season before heading home to prepare everything for the Wedding of the Year.

dubsaint Dan's all day Birthday Party.

AND, most distracting of all, a 3:45pm local kickoff in the #1 Beach Bar in Dubai. On an average Saturday there are around 5-600 of Dubai's finest Bikini's on the Beach...

 

From midway through the 1st half they'll all becoming up to around the Big Screen for their sundowners........

 

Worried we may lose focus on the matchday thread....

 

But hey, if the footie is rubbish we may be able to introduce the new lucky

Can't see us winning this, would be happy enough with a point as we only need to average a point a game to be safe. Some on here seem rather confident, we've had poor away results recently at Newcastle and Norwich. 2-1 Reading I'm afraid

I wonder why Adkins took this job. All that it means is another relegation on his CV.

He could have waited and would have found a great Championship or even lower Premiership job in the summer. This feels to me like a lover on the rebound.

He couldn't even be positive in his post-match interview yesterday....

 

 

...perhaps it was the (rumoured) promise of £1.5 million bonus for keeping them up.......

Let's hope so. Then we can get that yo-yo strategy back on track.

 

Present form is seriously endangering that strategy, as it's looking increasingly unlikely that we will successfully carry out the "getting relegated" part of the plan.

Gotta be honest, I'd take a draw.

 

I'm sounding like a stuck record saying that every game, but we're so close to the finish line that we can get over it with just a handful of draws from here.

I'm with you on this mate, obviously we all want a win and 3 points but they can't loose every match and we can't win every match, I think it will be a 2 - 2 draw or a 4 - 1 win to us, just can't get the NA 1st game at home thing out of my mind, COYR !!

Group of us going on a corporate do what's the etiquette when we score the winner jump up and celebrate :D

 

Depends very much on whether you are guests of Reading fans. Especially if you want to stay friendly with them and perhaps get another invite in future.

 

Otherwise, celebrate modestly during the game, so as to preserve your seat / beers / food for the 90 mins. Then go mental at the end! :)

Agreed. The turnaround in their form (and that of the teams above them) is monumental. You are asking a team who have not won in six games to suddenly win say 50% of their remaining games.

And that's without looking at the fixtures...

 

No, this has 'rebound' written all over it. It's a shame because Adkins is and deserves better.

I think this is the fixture reading will be most up for all season. Think they have a dislike for us after last yar and they know a win could have them back in it and we are one of their most winnable games. They'll approach this like the game at sms last season. We have to find a way to slow the pace early and exert our superiority. One of those games I have a bad feeling about but with j rod playing as he is, I think he could well do to them what let fondre did to us.

Reading will need to win 5 out of 7 if they're to have a chance of staying up, if their GD was better maybe 4 and 2 draws but as they're at -25 they'll need at least 5 wins. Don't know much about their style of play but if Adkins tries to make them suddenly pass out from the back our CMs will pounce on them and have a field day.

Quite. So they have to win as many games in their next 7 as they have managed in their previous 31. Adkins would be hailed as some sort of miracle worker if he achieved that. Reality is that they will probably win 2 more this season, and one of their targets must be us. I hope we win but would accept a draw, we have 3 very winnable home games, we won't win them all but I would expect 2 out of 3 and that will be enough with a point or two on the road.

Why? We have beaten the Champions of Europe and were described as the best team to play at Old Trafford this season! In fact we have a better record against Man United in open play than Real Madrid over two legs against 11 men!

 

So let's just go to Reading and kick their arses as we should and are good enough to do!

We can't win every game. I think Saints might be a bit complacent, like Chelski against us. Hopefully MP can keep them sharp.

Lets keep the momentum of winning and win this, il take a draw now but want all 3 Wigan and Villa fail to win and were pretty much safe im still looking behind us until the Reading game after this IF WE WIN, then i shall look for us to finish between 14th and 12th get that bit extra pride and money.

Would be happy with a draw as points away from home are good if you're picking up wins at home which we are. A win however is surely very possible if we play to our best and the manager will definitely be targeting a victory as it'll surely mean we're all but safe?

 

Keep Gaston on the bench? He does tend to fade away from home, perhaps start with the same side that did against Chelsea? We do seems to play very well when Davis is playing with Lambert/Puncheon/Rodriquez all playing high and across the line.

The difference to games away at Norwich and Wigan is that we probably will be playing on a better surface in dry weather.

That will benefit our game more, it will always be harder in weather like that at Norwich for example...

Conditions were awful at Norwich but last minute pen aside we were still by far the better side imho

I don't think we will be complacent. And I agree we can't win every game. But we should win against Reading. They have lost six games in a row. Their defence on Saturday was the very essence of incompetence.

We are a very good footballing side. We just have to get the ball down, play it and win. Simples! :)
