Ah cool, another take the **** out of your own fans ''bump''. I've missed these.

Maybe these fans or cultists should listen a bit, learn about the game and stop being sheep?

The modern football fan knows nothing of the game, they are fed promises of something without anything to truly back it up or measure it against, exactly like religion.

Yes to a point, but desperation reallyon fans wanting something without thinking, do they think other much larger clubs are not doing what we have? With massive sums of money and and Worldwide fanbases as well, we simply cant overtake them, it wont happen.

Why do you seem so frustrated with 9th? Most people are pretty happy I think, enjoying supporting us as usual.

Nick G will be. We currently sit bottom of his realistic target for this season prediction based on the squad before we signed Lovren, Wanyama and Osvaldo. He must be very disappointed.

Sad if so. However, sure you agree that Bazza seems quite upset about stuff this season? Seems unhappy that Cortese isn't spending Chelsea-esq sums to get us into the Champions League but not sure that anyone said we would.

Didn't Cortese say something about European football after 5 years, makes me cry thinking we sneered at Sunderland away only a few weeks ago, Cortese needs to be realistic, without Chelsea money this is as good as it gets, that's it thats what I am saying.

What is your personal view on a fair target league placing for this current squad next season?

As we sit 12th after the start we had, not having Yoshida, Ramirez and Boruc at start of season, rapid development of Clyne, Shaw, Rodriguez, plus players like Cork, Morgan, Puncheon, Ramirez, Lallana still under peak ages...

I would look at target of 6-9th with likely finish above 13th.

Turkish describes this as 'seriously deluded'. Maybe, but my opinion.

What are other's views?

Maybe likely finish of 13th was pessimistic, think we will better that.

Also think my view that Cortesse would be setting targets of 6-9th was low - its seems from talk in interviews that club target was somewhere 4th- 8th.

What I wasn't wrong about was my view that Turkish / Dune/ Barry / Stu whoever is a very strange person who looks to boost himself by moaning and making arguments for pleasure (often, as with CB, playing some bizarre devils advocate against a forum view that wasn't ever posted). I'm sure some expert would have great fun analysing him and what caused his bitterness, lack of respect of others and wanting to dampen what is meant to be a pleasure / hobby.

Notice more and more are getting fed up with their immature approach.

My first though today....disappointment, wanting to dry out, hope we don't get dragged into a rut...

His...that he can look big and clever against me....why the obsession???

I looked a while ago, when particularly bored with his stalking, (just posting three a day max ) he had quoted all of my last 10!!

Strange boy.

Oh no NIckG!!

The OP said 'what is your personal view' so therefore your view, not Cortese is last seasons squad was good enough to finish higher than this seasons squad currently are. You must be furious at the way things are going.

Target = objective to strive for (6-9th).

Likely = probabable, credible, believable (above 13th).

Currently 9th.

6 points above 13th.

When had Wanyama etc we were much higher (playing Arsenal to go top).

When your support is from Barry you must realise you are a laughing stock surely?

BTW, agreed with your post in match reaction thread but this is my last post of day.

Then Cortese is naive if he thinks we can compete with out consistent investment against far far larger clubs. Who does he see us replace on a consistent basis? Is he stupid?

I think you might find that he thinks that he has made "consistent investment" although far too much of it has been wasted

on no hopers and underperformers. The fact that Saints have about 50 million £'s worth of "talent" that does absolutely sod all

might be p*ssing him off somewhat.

Speaking of things "that weren't ever posted..." why all this pretence that you were just articulating Cortese's target?

This is what you wrote, quoted below.

Note the phrase "personal view" and the killer phrase "I would look at a target of 6th..."

"I would" (not Cortese)

"Personal view" (not Cortese)

"My opinion" (not Cortese's)

What is your personal view on a fair target league placing for this current squad next season?

So NickG, my advice would be to not accuse others about "things that weren't ever posted" until you face into what you did post, without trying to bulls hit out of it.

Why are you mentioning Wanyama? Your target of 6th-9th was set before he was here. Surely with him, Lovren and Osvaldo we should be targeting even higher?

6th-9th with last seasons squad was a realistic target, your words, no one else's. We currently sit bottom of your realistic target placing set for last seasons squad. You must be very, very disappointed.

If we finish 13 th for me wouldn't be good enough as only 2 places above Adkins team when he left with 30 million spent.

No, we've spent it already but we're not going to sit back, spend no more and hope that puts us into Europe four years in a row. This summer's investment was for this season, a first push for the top half/8/maybe Europe. There'll be another push next summer, then the next then the next and eventually, we hope, we might get there.

So Cortese will continually spend? I dont think so, I think he wants it from the academy or a high % which is silly and naive, they are performing brilliantly as it stands how much more can you ask of them? And if they were performing why would they stay when they could leave to a larger club? No he is naive when it comes to football.

Not at all, why would I be very, very disappointed with a great start to the season?

Admittedly Lovren has played a big part, and also Wanyama, but predominately last season's squad was recently very high, and at half way point 9th, with a gap from 10th.

As I said we will probably finish above 13th we are doing better. If not for bad luck with simultaneous injuries I think could be much higher and may end up higher.

It has also been positive to see that we are not light years behind teams like Everton and Spurs as you said - behind yes, but we have shown to all they are catchable.

So not disappointed at all - its looking pretty positive. As for end of season target - its looking sensible as a target.

Your ' realistic target' with last seasons squad was 6th-9th, you're saying that after spending £35m on three international players the realistic target is exactly the same and the fact we are currently bottom of last seasons realistic target places suggests the £35m was squandered, does it not?

All you can ask of them is to improve until they hit peak age, as most players do, and of course you can call on more players as they start to arrive at the right level. If Cortese can access the funds we'll spend well every summer for the next few years though. When the plan is to have a team of mostly academy graduates, you have to spend to keep the team competitive while that generation comes through. That won't happen for a good five or six years at least. As for the viability of that plan, we'll find out in time. It's going very well so far.

Young players now know this is the place to be if they want top class development and Premier League game time. Some may wish to go to bigger clubs and some deals may go through despite our strong financial position, but only Oxlade-Chamberlain has left under Cortese and there's no sign of anyone else going yet.

Somebody who was naive about football as a whole, rather than something specific like whether you can reach Europe with an academy team, wouldn't have achieved what he has already.

Your speculating, we came out of league 1 or moreso we had to with the squad we had and the size of the club are, the Championship well we got off to a superb start and Lambert get firing them in with help from others of course, the bulk of our success is down to astute British signings and promotion of youth 3/4 years ago not now, we have squandered money, what background is Cortese is exactly from again?

****ing hell when's the next game we've got too much time on our hands, team are decent, we still wont truly know how good we are until Mopo gets all his players fit and accustomed to the league, think maybe Feb/Mar will show us our true potential as this is our 1st season being maurico's team.

Agree that the squad depth needs to improve but thats what the youngsters are for, I think we can consistently be placed in the top 10 with seasonal oscillations higher dependent on singular quality additions. If we want CL then I think another 3 players who are the best available players for that position in our system, it doesn't necessarily mean beacoup $$$ to get the either.

I did always wonder why Cortese was on holiday every time we signed a British player, promoted a youth player or Lambert scored a goal.

Am I the only person who is unconcerned with the specific placing in the table, and looks more at a decent improvement on last seasons points tally? To my mind a points total of 54 would be a very good improvement on last season. IF Saints got close to this total I would then hope that the next season would see an improvement again, something in the low 60s. I guess some people within the club have mentioned challenging for the top 4, I wouldn't discourage that, it's called ambition.

So you bumped this because you got excited after a defeat thinking it made my view seem to optimistic. But now, because I (and others) still think it was reasonable, in your strange desire to find arguments you now having another attempt that its too pessimistic.

Lol, you are struggling, still Barry will probably change stance to help you!

My view on summer signings;

Lovren looks great, really good value and significantly increased our chances of finishing 6-9th.

Wanyama very promising, as we had Cork not as big an impact as Lovren but looks one who will get better. Money well spent.

Osvaldo, clearly very able. Still needs to deliver a lot more to justify his fee (as older than Wanyama / Ramirez potentially less resale).

So, in summary not disappointed in this season. I'm happy with OP (sorry to spoil your pleasure in our defeat and bumping this).

I still think it was reasonable to think the squad at end of last season would have started the season with a positive view - aiming towards 6-9th.

I still think that squad would have finished this season higher than 13th. I believe form of Boruc, Lallana, JayRod, Fonte, Clyne, Shaw, Schneiderlin etc supports my view.

I think signings have improved us but are not enough to take us to very top level....yet ;)

I know you are more pessimistic and view likes of Everton as light years ahead. I don't have a problem with your opinion just disagree.

I don't understand your desire to knock others pleasure / excitement / optimism.

I would have thought that people would start to see that the 'happy clappers' have been right more than you moaners over last few years :)

Talking of struggling i see you've now resorted to type of making things up about what people think and have said, excellent work NIckG.

So just to clarify. Your 'realistic target' was actually not realistic at all. You never expected us to finish there just that we would finish above 13th somewhere. The three signings we've made who are 'really great' 'very promising' and 'clearly able' haven't in fact improved anything at all because you still don't expect us to achieve your 'realistic target' so Cortese has spent £35m to go from to not achieving your 'realistic target' to still not achieving your 'realistic target'. But hey, we'll finish about 13th though so it doesn't matter anyway, or something.

Lol, very true!

Think we are at the stage when Turkish needs to find a responsible adult he trusts to read the posts and help him understand, poor lad.

Hopefully they will explain that a target is an aim, something you aspire to, hope to achieve, build / plan for and if all is successful you hit!

Surely not that hard? It was separated in OP!

Target 6-9th - still looks fair doesn't it?

What I predicted, most likely, realistic, believable end of season outcome was above 13th. Again, still looks fair?

So, trying really hard to keep this Turkish level, I was pretty sure an OK season would see us above 13th (still with me?) But thought in a good season, if all went well, we should be hoping higher (6th being highest I felt we could aim for, 9th still being a very good season).

This has been shown to be fair.

Yes we have added players. But surely, even you, when not on wind up, knows that three players, of their value, don't guarantee jumping 10 places - maybe two or three?

So, with new squad, maybe a target of 4th-7th would be an aim (club spoken of top 4, 6 and 8th so again reasonable).

And yes the additions have changed my prediction of where we will finish. Before them I was confident of top 12. Now certainly top 10, pretty confident top 9. Again prediction gone up by two or three places.

Not sure can make it simpler.

I'm not changing my view, being antagonistic or winding up.

You bumped my post of a personal view - to mock as you feel it's proven wrong.

I disagree. I still hold the same view and feel season so far supports it.

Maybe read through my recent replies again before you reply?

On a better note, Bearsy is becoming my favourite poster - in contrast attempts to brighten all threads up rather than snipe.

You may disagree young man but a different opinion to yours doesn't make it utter bol+ocks.

I'm fairly confident you would have said anyone predicting the three years that we have just had was talking utter bol+ocks.

But you fail to provide any rationale as to why you think its wrong or find anything I've made up.

There's no need to keep trying to find argument.

I think the quaintest, cutest thing is folk on this forum imploring us to "concentrate" on a particular objective.

The implication is that if we all think about "not being relegated" this will somehow be more helpful than "dreaming of Europe".

This seasons team will finish 8th or 9 th

Do you think the squad which finished last season would have?

No, but I might of wrote that on here, or somewhere else. With a bit of extra investment we could finish top 10, CL is welcomed as a long term target but a lot of that depends on investment, a larger squad and not losing our brightest talent and probably manager.

It was pretty obvious we needed a striker and back up keeper n CB in the summer.

The OP written in March stats that 6-9th was the aim for last seasons squad, not this season. This is my point. I told Nickg several times he was deluded at the time, then he produced this thread where he name check me in the OP. Of course he's now playing his joker which was where he said 'a likely finish of 13Th or above' but the fact is in his opinion last seasons squad was good enough to finish 6th. This was his 'realistic target' I think we all agree that is utter nonsense and even this seasons squad isn't, hence the bump and him writing essays every post to defend his comments.

For the record I said twice on this thread if we signed 3-4 players we can finish top 10. We did and we look like we will do.

Of course by "now playing his joker where he said a likely finish above 13th" you mean in third paragraph of OP in March last year! Lol.

So well before staying up was guaranteed (one of your moans in thread).

You may disagree but its your arrogance that sends you off on a rant claiming different view is deluded.

Club talk about targets of 4th / 6th / 8th etc.

Obviously we've added Lovren who has played most of season, Wanyama who has played ⅔ of season and Osvaldo.

But without their contribution I reckon a finish above 13th would have been likely, reckon we would have been aiming 6-9th and hoping good form / no injuries.

You say you think all will agree with you??!! Have a read of the thread...most common view is you are a wum...think your inability to discuss intelligently will only increase that view.

If 6th-9th was a 'realistic target' with last seasons squad then you must have felt the squad last season was good enough to finish 6th, otherwise it wouldn't be a 'realistic target'. This is utter nonsense and deluded bol*ocks. No amount of typing and backtracking from you will change that.
