swannymere Posted 16 April, 2013 Share Posted 16 April, 2013 I think that next season will as hard as this season, plus the fans expectations will be alot higher. I'd be happy to consolidate our place in the Premier League as an achievable target before anyone starts thinking about challenging for a European place. Cabrone Posted 16 April, 2013 Share Posted 16 April, 2013 If we could get a pacy striker to start replacing Ricky and a quality CB + we keep our key players + we continue on our current trajectory then IMO 6th would be the best we could achieve (and that would be a superb achievement). More realistically some decent football, a mid table finish and a cup run (like Swansea) would be just fine for me.

melmacian_saint Posted 16 April, 2013 Share Posted 16 April, 2013 I'm worried about keeping Schneiderlin and Clyne. We now have the power to keep Shaw and as long as we keep progressing in the table he will stay. The other two however (particularly Clyne who's been on the national radar for a while now) I feel are the kind of players that we would not think twice about selling if that meant we could go for more upmarket solutions. Morgan signed a long-term contract what, a month ago? Hardly suggests he is likely to leave this summer. Even if he does, given his performances this season, it is going to take a stupid fee to replace him. I'd be gutted to see him go, and I really, really doubt he will. BUT, if he did, considering the fee we would get, we would be able to replace him, and probably strengthen a few other areas also (not that I want this scenario to happen). Window Cleaner Posted 16 April, 2013 Share Posted 16 April, 2013 (edited) Morgan signed a long-term contract what, a month ago? so did Phil Jones about 3 months before he signed for Utd., contracts means nothing to top teams when they're recruiting. If the decision has been reached to sign any of our players they could have contracts until the year 3000 and it wouldn't make an iota of difference, you know like AOC. Now with the financial fair play system teams will look for value for money and I think we have plenty of that. We know absolutely nothing about player's contracts, for all we know they could all have release threshold clauses. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 16 April, 2013 Share Posted 16 April, 2013 contracts means nothing to top teams when they're recruiting. They do. It will drive the price up, massively. Now with the financial fair play system teams will look for value for money and I think we have plenty of that. Kind of goes against above. As for release clauses, do you honestly think that Cortese is going to give our standout performer a big new contract (he will have gotten a sizable pay rise - I guess, obviously i'm not ITK) and then let him just waltz off a couple of months later. If there is such a clause, it is going to be massive.

Barry Sanchez Posted 16 September, 2013 Share Posted 16 September, 2013 Top 10 would be the target WITH THE CURRENT SQUAD based on the second half of this seasons performance.. However, I can really see us spending £50m-£60m in the summer on some real quality for a top 6 finish. Honestly. 2ND post in, pure pearler. itchen_dan Posted 16 September, 2013 Share Posted 16 September, 2013 2ND post in, pure pearler. Is it not true though? Current squad was showing form of top 10 last season apart from the first 10 or so games. I said we'd spend £50m - we spent £32m and could've easily gone for one more pushing it towards £40m. We signed 2 Champions League quality players in Lovren (absolute class act) and Osvaldo (proven goalscorer) and splashed £12.5m on a player who needs to improve and probably will improve. Top 8/6 is/was obviously the target judging by the comments coming from the club during pre season.
Barry Sanchez Posted 16 September, 2013 Share Posted 16 September, 2013 We're two points off fourth FFS! Then it will be we're 3 points of 6th, then 5 points of a possible European place, its not the position of the table as that never sorts itself out until Christmas, dont let numbers cushion the fact we are failing to break down teams, score goals after spending millions. The here and now please, dreams for bedtime.

Last season, teams forgot how to defend and the entire league shifted to an all out attack approach. This season it seems to have gone the complete opposite. Lots of low scoring games and draws. How the deluded posters on this board claimed we'd be a top six side? It's provoked many, many derisive posts, threads have been started referring back to it. Now look back at the first page of this thread and count how many people thought it would happen, must be loads mustn't it? Fifteen? Twenty? Maybe more? It was two. Itchen Dan and Avenue Saint, that's it. For some reason they are now being referred to as a brigade. Brilliant. There are about twenty or more posts saying it will be otherwise. NickG Posted 16 September, 2013 Author Share Posted 16 September, 2013 What is your personal view on a fair target league placing for this current squad next season? As we sit 12th after the start we had, not having Yoshida, Ramirez and Boruc at start of season, rapid development of Clyne, Shaw, Rodriguez, plus players like Cork, Morgan, Puncheon, Ramirez, Lallana still under peak ages... I would look at target of 6-9th with likely finish above 13th. Turkish describes this as 'seriously deluded'. Maybe, but my opinion. What are other's views? Stand by my views but you do wonder if, judging by comments from within club, whether NC has set a very high target (Europe?) This year? Still would be disappointed if not above 13th, and no reason why shouldn't be aiming 6-9th.

ART Posted 19 September, 2013 Share Posted 19 September, 2013 Fu.ck me, we are 4pts off the drop zone and the happy clappy brigade start wittering on about top 6. Our club seems infested with utterly deluded mongs. I thoroughly agree with this sentiment, especially in view of our lack of goals and Pochettino's deluded opinion that he's improving things. The one thing that really upsets me are his statements before and after games. I'd rather he'd say or predict nothing that has the supporters and players believing he's offering the Promise Land. I do agree that we're not playing as well as I was expecting or hoping before the season started though. That being said, I am going to put my faith in Poch and say that he will get this team performing to their potential and we'll finish in the top half. 7th - 9th.
