MON Sacked / Di Canio Appointed at Sunderland

Be nice to see them to down. Another club with some big wages on older players. I'm not convinced the 'experience' people cried out for in the summer is all it's cracked up to be.

Mignolet is worth signing though and always thought Larsson was useful.

Don't think Larsson would add much to us if I'm honest. He's slow as ****, and for me our summer recruitment program needs to include a little more pace throughout the spine.

There honestly isn't anyone in their side who I like the look of. I think they're a squad full of ****, he should be given a medal for putting together such an average team of cloggers.

As a swede I will have to put my veto in here and agree with you.

Absolutely no no no no to Larsson, awful player. Unfortunately our national team manager hasn´t seen that yet...he has only one good attribute. Kicking a ball that is not moving....

As a swede, would you know who Olinda Borggren and Patrick Larsson is? ;)

some sort of soap, category z-famous people?

Yup. I've also worked with those nutters too. Absolutely bonkers. They left me with a very confused opinion of Sweden.

They did, however, introduce me to Swedish breakfasts, which is a positive. :)

Well let´s say that as swedes we would never have that type of people spreading the word for us... :)

Breakfasts are good though!

Don't understand. Martin O'Neill is a good manager with a proven record. Don't think they can get anyone better.

Ooowwww not sure that of that comment or it's relevance to the here and now.......

O'Neil has been out of his depth for a few years now. Times have moved on - he hasn't - poor coach and manager these days .....

Am I the only one who is hoping Swedish breakfast is a euphemism and will be explained soon followed by infractions for filth all round?

Lols I was literally just googling to see if blow job!

I know one ITK fact bout Martin o'neill btw, wait for this... His wife wears the trousers! #henpecked

Not surprised in the least by the decision, although slightly surprised it didn't happen 2 weeks ago.

O'Neill, without his long term sidekick John Robertson, has looked pretty lost of ideas tbh. Apart from the initial boost after replacing Steve Bruce (and let's face it, most teams would get a boost of anyone coming in after Bruce, but O'Neill would have that enthusiasm) he's been pretty poor. If you take out the 7 wins in the first 10 games then his last 44 league games have produced 12 wins (14 in 56 in all comps), pretty close to relegation form over a prolonged period.

Without anything changing, Sunderland were only heading one way - into the Championship. With no transfer window available, what else can you change?

The difference between Sunderland and Reading changing managers is Reading just don't have a squad good enough to stay up, either with ability or PL experience. Whatever Reading do, I don't see them staying up & the players backed Brian McDermott. That Sunderland squad should be good enough to stay up, but with their main scorer out for the season, it's not looking good. Let's hope whoever comes in doesn't get Connor Wickham & Danny Graham functioning as a partnership

I actually think it makes more sense than not to sack him. They were in complete and utter free fall with no sign of halting it...as it stands they're heading for the relegation trap door. They have no choice but to gamble on the new manager factor and hope a change of approach gives them an immediate boost.

Sunderland have a very medioce side, couldn't say whether that's O'Neill's fault or not though, dont take much interest in them tbh. I mean if you're forced into playing Titus Bramble because you've no-one else fit youre on a hiding to nothing arent you.

Something had to change at Sunderland. Playing like a team without any fight or ideas. It may be the players fault but this time of year the only changeable component happens to be the manager ... they've essentially gambled and I cant say I blame them.

I'd have Sessegnon.

Imagine Di Canio will be much cheaper than MON!

DiCanio cant lose on this one...... I can see Sunderland being relegated but being decent next season in the championship. DI Canio's rep will rise and he will be linked with more prem jobs

Not so sure their fans think that way. I think their demands will be staying up.

Might work. Might not. Risky.

Everyone in the media can go all gooey over Di Canio but as a manager he's achieved jack sh it.

A promotion from League 2? Managers who have done that are ten a penny. Could turn out to be a tabloid friendly, better dressed, more Fascist Paul Sturrock.

A mate of mine supports Swindon and says that, predictably, di Canio is a complete egomaniac and will take credit for absolutely everything his team does, and will always try to make himself the focal point of attention. He also had control of absolutely everything at Swindon, in terms of management, signing of players, offering contracts and negotiations etc. Not sure how that will work at Sunderland; but they had to make a change, and he's certainly a "character".
