Crazy Diamond Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 I think if anyone deserves it right now, it's him. Spent a bomb and has delivered the same as Bruce so far. Strange timing though, did they really pin their hopes on beating United?
Tractor_Saint Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2013/03/30/3866318/sunderland-sack-martin-oneill?source=breakingnews&ICID=HP_BN_2 A little bit too late IMHO
adrian lord Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 What's that dreadful picture of Roy Keane doing on your avatar?!
Turkish Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Really odd timing, waant there a FACT the other day to say that every team that has sacked their manager from March onwards has gone down?.........
Olallana Posted 30 March, 2013 Author Posted 30 March, 2013 I think if anyone deserves it right now, it's him. Spent a bomb and has delivered the same as Bruce so far. Strange timing though, did they really pin their hopes on beating United? True but now with 7 games left seems very strange..... lost the dressing room perhaps?
Olallana Posted 30 March, 2013 Author Posted 30 March, 2013 What's that dreadful picture of Roy Keane doing on your avatar?! Who are you asking?
Crazy Diamond Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 True but now with 7 games left seems very strange..... lost the dressing room perhaps? Well, he's lost his job at the very least. As I say, a lot of money spent. Adam Johnson is on over £100k a week, a lot of money for a midtable side to spend - a hell of a wage for a potential Championship player. Sessegnon apparently took a big pay rise to convince him to stay in the UK. Fletcher cost how much? It goes on.
Matthew Le God Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Really odd timing, waant there a FACT the other day to say that every team that has sacked their manager from March onwards has gone down?......... That "FACT" was about teams in the bottom 3 at the time of the sacking. Sunderland are not currently in the bottom 3. Although given their dreadful form, upcoming fixture list and season ending injuries to their captain and top scorer they could well be soon!
brmbrm Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 OK, so how will that help their run-in? It'll probably help everyone else's....
sfc4prem Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Relegation looms for SAFC. Can't see who would be good enough to turn it around
Turkish Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 That "FACT" was about teams in the bottom 3 at the time of the sacking. Sunderland are not currently in the bottom 3. Although given their dreadful form, upcoming fixture list and season ending injuries to their captain and top scorer they could well be soon! Okay, cheers. They do look in big trouble. Chelsea and Newcastle away followed by Everton at home then a six pointer at Villa. Can't see more than a couple of points from those 4 games
Crazy Diamond Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 That "FACT" was about teams in the bottom 3 at the time of the sacking. Sunderland are not currently in the bottom 3. Although given their dreadful form, upcoming fixture list and season ending injuries to their captain and top scorer they could well be soon! There is no need to say 'currently' in this sentence.
Patrick Bateman Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Relegation looms for SAFC. Can't see who would be good enough to turn it around Think I agree - it's an utterly bonkers decision and a very weird time to get rid of a manager. Something else must have happened?
Olallana Posted 30 March, 2013 Author Posted 30 March, 2013 There is no need to say 'currently' in this sentence. Is there a need for that remark? Yes, not necessary for me either, but still....
Tractor_Saint Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Even worse than the sacking, MOTD have bumped the Saints game to 2nd on because they want to put the Sunderland game on first. WTF?
Saintandy666 Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Don't understand. Martin O'Neill is a good manager with a proven record. Don't think they can get anyone better.
Crazy Diamond Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Is there a need for that remark? Yes, not necessary for me either, but still.... Just don't like to see a fine language abused. We're safely on topic, don't worry. Even worse than the sacking, MOTD have bumped the Saints game to 2nd on because they want to put the Sunderland game on first. WTF? Now THAT is unnecessary.
Jonnyboy Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Really odd timing, waant there a FACT the other day to say that every team that has sacked their manager from March onwards has gone down?......... Especially as you were raving about him the other day.
Tom8558 Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 They have a horrible run in and have just sacked their manager. Can't see them staying up now. Looks like they will join Reading and QPR in the Championship next season.
Crazy Diamond Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 They have a horrible run in and have just sacked their manager. Can't see them staying up now. Looks like they will join Reading and QPR in the Championship next season. Question is, who do they bring in?
Tractor_Saint Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Even worse than the sacking, MOTD have bumped the Saints game to 2nd on because they want to put the Sunderland game on first. WTF? But if Chelski could sack Rafa in the next few minutes we might be first game again?
Olallana Posted 30 March, 2013 Author Posted 30 March, 2013 But if Chelski could sack Rafa in the next few minutes we might be first game again?
Kingsland Red Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 George Burley was a proven manager with a track record. The media also like "Arry. It is the media love in with these guys that hide the fact that for the amount of money they p*ss away (O'N at Villa and now Sunderland ) their real record is poor.
beatlesaint Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Mark Hughes... that would not surprise me in the slightest !
Crab Lungs Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 It's **** club, **** manager swap shop season .... ... hang on, that means we're been involved too
S-Clarke Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 What an absolute mentalist time to do it. They're gone.
Horton Heath Saint Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Who's in the frame to replace him? Must have someone I guess.
Olallana Posted 30 March, 2013 Author Posted 30 March, 2013 Soon Paul Merson will come out saying he hope they go down...
S-Clarke Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Who's in the frame to replace him? Must have someone I guess. Apparently no one, the assistant will become the interim appointment. Seems to be be that O'Neil quit, as opposed to them sacking him after reading a few of their forums.
max_saints Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 insane decision really. would be even more stupid if they don't have an immediate replacement, but even still, whoever takes over needs to hit the ground running with only 7 games left. if it means they've just secured themselves 18th position then I won't mind!
Tractor_Saint Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Bet Adkins wishes he'd waited a week I bet his wife is saying this to him right now. LOL
VectisSaint Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Question is, who do they bring in? Luggy, the Reading job was just a smoke screen.
Olallana Posted 30 March, 2013 Author Posted 30 March, 2013 Apparently no one, the assistant will become the interim appointment. Seems to be be that O'Neil quit, as opposed to them sacking him after reading a few of their forums. If so it makes a little more sense, still think he has lost the dressingroom, Johnsons reaction when subbed today was really obvious....
MOSaint Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Weird timing, but given Wigan, Villa & ourselves are picking up points there is a good chance O'Neill would have taken them down given their form at the moment and tough run in. Edit: if they really do appoint an assistant for the rest of the season, they are in deep ****.
SNSUN Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Funnily enough, this means that O'Neill still doesn't have a relegation on his CV! He's escaped by the skin of his teeth. I think Sunderland could go down. Wigan and Villa have shown the fight in recent weeks, and both have goalscorers, Kone and Benteke. Sunderland and Norwich could be the ones struggling - and as for this sacking, it's baffling. Very strange decision.
Olallana Posted 30 March, 2013 Author Posted 30 March, 2013 Di Canio bookmaker favourite apparently....
sammysaint Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Really hope this makes them plunge further, no way will they get a decent manager there at this stage next 2 games are really tough for them.
Wade Garrett Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Looks like he's walked out on them. He has got form for this. Strikes me as someone who's quick to spit the dummy.
beatlesaint Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Looks like he's walked out on them. He has got form for this. Strikes me as someone who's quick to spit the dummy. Where have you heard or seen this ? The BBC website is saying they sacked him. Walking out on them makes more sense.
Wade Garrett Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 Where have you heard or seen this ? The BBC website is saying they sacked him. Walking out on them makes more sense. The way it has been worded on the 10 o'clock News seemed to suggest it to me.
St Chalet Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 (edited) This is the news every Winchester Estate Agent has been waiting for. Edited 30 March, 2013 by St Chalet
