NickG Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 draw fair result. Cork is form player. KD is exceptional this season and likes it to stay at Southampton. Very happy and hope he keeps this form all season. Two clean sheets but need to score more. Looking in January to maybe able to do something about striker but the young strikers all just need a goal as they have ability and when goal comes others will follow. Hoping for home draw against big team for occassion in fa cup. -Chelsea or Man U
s0108787 Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 JP is brilliant, Chelsea / Man U at home!! Love it.
NickG Posted 29 November, 2008 Author Posted 29 November, 2008 Kelvin interview- form / confidence improving. fans have helped staying behind the team and not getting on their backs. asked if he thinks he is good enough to step up to premiership or England as JP said he is good as any English goalie - he laughed and said always been good enough
Mr saint Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 draw fair result. Agreed I think. Could have gone either way though. KD kept us in it Cork is form player. He's doing alright. We need to keep him! KD is exceptional this season and likes it to stay at Southampton. Very happy and hope he keeps this form all season. That's good to know. I dread to think where we'd be without him so far this season! Two clean sheets but need to score more. This was my first thought after the match. How come when we're conceding lots of goals we always managed to score at least 1 (i.e. in our 4-1 games etc.). Why can't we keep clean sheets and then find that 1 goal which seems insignificant in other games. Looking in January to maybe able to do something about striker but the young strikers all just need a goal as they have ability and when goal comes others will follow. We need a proven goal scorer. I'm all for playing youngsters but we need someone, preferably 1 of John/Rasiak/Saga. Hoping for home draw against big team for occassion in fa cup. -Chelsea or Man U I would still love to see us against Arsneal's young guns. I know we're still a long long way off from then, and it's more than likely we'd get thrashed, but it would still be good to just be able to compare our boysh with theirs. Anyone but Pompey though to be honest. I'd be more than happy with a conference side. ...
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 JP is brilliant, Chelsea / Man U at home!! Love it. Oh yeah!! brilliant that will be another spanking on tv...can`t wait:smt023
um pahars Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Looking in January to maybe able to do something about striker but the young strikers all just need a goal as they have ability and when goal comes others will follow. First part of that sentence is good to hear as we must be one of the lowest goalscorers in this league. We need someone in ASAP (or someone back!!!!). The second part though is a bit concerning, because if Jan really thinks that all DMG and Robertson need is one goal and then more will follow, then he has me worried!!!!!

I`m glad i an not the only one with this opinion. No more youthful loans or full of promise players,we need a goalscorer, a proven goalscorer and we have one in Bristol.
Nexstar Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Sounds like he's on the ball, pretty sure he doesn't think we're up to man utd/chelsea level though....just need the money!!

The sooner we have someone who knows where the goal is the better.

We need someone in ASAP (or someone back!!!!). The second part though is a bit concerning, because if Jan really thinks that all DMG and Robertson need is one goal and then more will follow, then he has me worried!!!!! Well, maybe he just wanted to give some public support as well. If he just says he wants a new striker that is not really going to motivate DMG and Robertson. They now know they have a month or so to prove that they can be that regular goalscorer otherwise we'll try and get someone else in January (and I'm assuming this also means no more Pekhart).
Snowballs2 Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 We desperately need a striker in during the transfer window. DMG can't cut it, he just does not have what it takes.
suewhistle Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 The second part though is a bit concerning, because if Jan really thinks that all DMG and Robertson need is one goal and then more will follow, then he has me worried!!!!! He's hardly going to ruin any confidence they might have by saying otherwise, is he? I've been largely impressed with what JP has said, and he certainly gives me more confidence than Burley did. Even his comments about finances/players have a little edge in that they suggest he is using them to fight his own case for particular players/spending. No, in spite of the criticisms that he doesn't know the English game (i.e. he's not some ex centre-back with loads of experience and a coaching badge) I'm pretty happy with him. I'd certainly rather have a different chairman!

I agree - would feel more confident in getting goals with likes of John or Rasiak, but think these younger players could do a hell of a lot better than they are if they had a couple of scuffed easy goals to get them going
Iowsaintsfan Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 I would love to see an experienced striker come in or brought back and i really believe we can make good progress up the league
View From The Top Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Only a fool fails to recorgnise the farce of letting SJ go as he would be the perfect target man in our present formation. How many times have we said that we need a "proper" striker? With one we would have picked up max points this week, IMHO.
saintwarwick Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Oh yeah!! brilliant that will be another spanking on tv...can`t wait:smt023 A good money earner though!
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 A good money earner though! True! maybe we could spend it on Stern John.
rpb Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 We desperately need a striker in during the transfer window. DMG can't cut it, he just does not have what it takes. yet...
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 yet... Do you really think he will make it?
NickG Posted 29 November, 2008 Author Posted 29 November, 2008 still think he can improve - needs to add the confidence he started season with, to the workrate he showed in bursts when partnered with Euell. Think he has the basic ability to be ok just needs to get his attitude right to put it together

John B Posted 30 November, 2008 Posted 30 November, 2008 Good shout, is he a striker that used to score goals at a price apparently too high for our financial resources. I would have thought if our finances had been OK he would not have been loaned out If we had to sell Lallana or Surman to get him back would that be OK? or is it too risky as his ability and confidence may have been hit?

What price do you put on goals? Ask Birmingham who have Phillips,Sheff Utd who have Beattie,Wolves who have Iwellumo etc. All of the above command what i expect to be decent wages as most teams in any league pay the goalscorers the most i suspect as goals win games, put bums on seats which increases revenue and stop teams being relegated. If we continue to not score to many goals at home in particular the crowds will get less and less and less and less money will be in the club. The financial resources will be worse still if we are relegated as the home crowd would dwindle more. Wht price do you put on goals? A goalscorer simply must be found.
St Landrew Posted 30 November, 2008 Posted 30 November, 2008 Good to read Jan's views, but I'm not at all sure Saints need a top team at St Mary's just yet. Just get a round or two further into the competition, and then by all means, have your Man U's or Chelsea's back here. Of course, with that inscrutable Dutch thinking, Jan might be going for the big crowd/club payday; if we lose, that gets the competition out of the way. If we win, that's a bonus, and a feather in our caps. Well we've done that before Jan, many a time. We've also lost to very weak opposition in the very next round.
