Lambert v Carol - BBC Radio 5 live debate

At the risk of attempting to introduce exactly what Savage said, he was talking about the fifth striker in the squad as someone you would be bringing on with 20 minutes left if you really needed to change the game (I presume he means chasing a losing game, so more high and long balls into the box), and so out of Carroll and Lambert, Carroll is more likely to change a game in that way. I would have to say that with those as the terms of reference for the debate, he's probably correct. Where I would disagree with him is about Lambert challenging for the fifth spot. I'd say that he'd be a better pick than Sturridge or Welbeck as one of the other four strikers.

It was a good debate which I listened to on way beck to West Dorset after the game. Savage made himself look stupid and when a West Ham fan rang in to say he would take Rickie over Carroll. it really said it all.

Savage just showed some clips why Rickie should and should not be in the England squad. According to Savage, SRL shouldnt be in the squad because he doesnt have pace, and missed that chance against Liverpool. Said if he preforms the like this next season he should be given a chance, but could then be too old.

So you have to preform for a few seasons to get into the England squad, but once you are in, you dont have to preform in the league or for England anymore (you will be called up anyway)

Was probably the most clueless bit of analysis I've ever seen from a pundit. Truly dumb as.

They put in younger players and it'll take two years to discover thay can't cut it .......yet they still get selected.....

NOTE TO " WOY" : :rule1: play your best in-form players! (regardless).

(1)... You are manager of the English national team and Rickie Lambert is the leading English scorer this season. What's so difficult to understand?

(2) Have you noticed ..Rickie Lambert has a similar talent for scoring from free-kicks as David Beckham ....and RL doesn't miss penalties, either.

(3)...The World Cup is next year..... do you expect Carroll ..or even Welbeck to score again before then?

Questions ?

pace : the pace of Prem. League games is a lot faster than most internationals I've watched recently.

missed a chance v. Liverpool  huh! ----look who's talking.

How can he be too old..... if he's scoring against teams who have many of the defenders he'd be likely to play against in a World Cup.?

......and surely he couldn't be worse than Cleverley?
