A brilliant preformance producing an unexpected result. As the Chelseas fans were too ready to remind us, they are the European Champions, so we ought to point out that we beat the European Champions today and have taken 4 points from 6 away from them this season. Having also beaten the Champions and Liverpool at home, drawn againt Arsenal and should have beaten Man Utd at home and gave them a nasty fright away, I think that it is fair to say that we are capable of beating any team on our day.

Hard to choose a man of the match, as several players paid their part. Clyne and Shaw were superb, with Hooiveld and Yoshida also excellent, but I believe that the part that Cork played seems to have gone unnoticed. I thought that he was immense, really up for it. Davis played his part in support of Lambert and Rodriguez and it was good to see Puncheon's trickery until he tired in the second half. Indeed, he should have had a shot in the box before he was closed down. Rodriguez also should have worked Cech when he was clean through, but his shot lacked any power and was straight at him.

Lambert showed Lampard how to take a free kick. His goal was superb, whereas two efforts from Lampard within easy range of the goal and neither breached the wall.

During the first half, we were bossing Chelsea and had the better possession and carried with it the more potent threat and certainly deserved the lead at half time.

In the second half, Benitez changed things around introducing Hazard and Ramirez, but as fine a player as they each are, it is to the credit of the defence that they were largely inneffective. Mata might have made a difference had he played, but Chelsea had to keep a team fresh to play United on Monday, so arguably it was a weakened team they fielded. On the other hand, we had Lallana out injured. Interesting to speculate also whether our Ramirez could have played an effective role in that match, but as we won and only conceded one goal, it must be accepted that Pochettino's tactics, team selctions and substitutions were spot on.

The crowd were great in their support of the team throughout the match today and gave the players a boost to keep them going. As I left the stadium, I could hear the chanting for several minutes after, so I imagine that there will be some very happy people in town tonight.

I love that now I have become ibterested in games involving teams like stoke.

Indeed. Who'd have thought a couple of months ago that we'd now be above Stoke, Norwich, Newcastle and Sunderland? Happy days :)

Also have to give Hooiveld some mentioning.

Won a lot of head duels when they were trying the long balls.

Would be interesting to see stats on that from the game.

If someone said we would take nine point off Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea I would have told them they were mad, but we did. Great all round team performance two great goals.

Saints were superb first half, but we were chasing shadows for most of the second. Still, we defended very resolutely and Kelvin pulled off a very good save. Only 4 points off the drop, therefore no room for complacency. Reading is a must win next week. Overall, we are looking good, but pesky Wigan just refuse to lie down. They are like the Grim Reaper.....getting closer and closer. Sunderland must be the favourites to join Reading and QPR now. But, we need to keep our eye on the ball.

Can't complain at taking 4 points off the reigning European champions this season!

Wonderful day. Wonderful result. Now let's give Reading a spanking next week!

Just got in from work, what a result! Let's get to 40 points, make sure of safety and then crack on. We really could finish really high this season. GET IN!

Buzzing. For me that was better then Man City. Really had to dig that result out

Motm...... Either Jay or Yoshida. Can't separate them.

I´ve just seen a fan on a Chelsea forum ask if they will go through on monday in the FA Cup if the result is 0-0 or 1-1......

A bit plastic I reckon....

Great to see James Beattie congratulating Ricky and calling for him to play for England. Just how much longer can Hodgeson ignore his talent?

The same length of time he ignored Holt when he was on fire? (i.e forever and Rickie's not going to get his deserved call )

It's days like this that make all the games in League 1 we sat through worth it. I remember an evening match against Sheff Wed a 0-0 draw and the worst game I have ever seen in my life, think it was under Portfleet.

Steve Davis the one who makes others play' date=' gets no headlines but top players player[/quote']

He started well, had a massive dip in form mid season and looks very good under MP.

Since when did England have anything to do with talent? Ego maybe but talent........

Actually we took 10 with the one at Stamford Bridge added in although you probably meant at home!

Although good to see JWP isn't afraid of mixing it up with the footballing glitterati

Thought exactly the same when JWP kept the bal way from Lampard and lobbed it to the ref.Certainly not in awe.

Great result. The only negative is that I think Morgan's yellow card takes him up to ten and that means that he misses two games. :(

That would be a bugger....is he really up to 10 bookings?
