lordswoodsaints Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 our best run of results all season. i know it is not brilliant but for a club in our position it is a result imo. it is no coincidence that we have started with an unchanged side.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 BWP is in form too. Sounds like Davies saved us 1st half
rocknrollman no2 Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Lets hope we can extend it to 4 or even 5?
Leicestersaint Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 It gives us something to build on - encouraging!
Arizona Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 3 clean sheets in 4 for Chris Perry and only one conceded at Reading. He has been the difference IMO.
Saints67 Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Small steps in the right direction. had a bad feeling it would be one step forward two back all season. Progress onwards now and overcome the slight home jinx we have. Hopefully Sheff Wed will come and try and play although I fear another 11 men behind the ball style of game from them. Anyhoo 5 points from 9. Would that do us for the rest of the season?
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 encouraged and will get excited when it is 5 or 6 with convincing wins amongst them, still outplaying teams but NEED the end product
RedWillie Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 encouraged and will get excited when it is 5 or 6 with convincing wins amongst them, still outplaying teams but NEED the end product I agree...whilst this is a promising run we need to put in in the other end

Your last sentence is a key factor for me. For me, Jan tinkered, tweeked and didn't know who to play where early on (even allowing for injuries). Combined with that, I think he persevered for too long with players who weren't performing. Hopefully, he's now found what is his strongest side and sticks with it. One continuing concern for me though is up front and our inability to put the ball in the net. DMG is not the answer.

I dont think JP did tinker that much but the injuries to Holmes and Svennson and illness to Perry disrupted his plans as well as Robertson and Pekhart not playing well I feel both JP wotte and Hockaday are not stupid and will be planning something for the Transfer window.

Who?? Surely you mean Lowe...

Assuming ALWAYS is correct, we'll probably be getting rid of Skacel, Surman and Davis and bringing in some loans from League 1.
John B Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Who?? Surely you mean Lowe... I have not seen that name much in posts tonight so why spoil it. Lets let JP and his team come up with some plan within the financial contraints
John B Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Assuming ALWAYS is correct, we'll probably be getting rid of Skacel, Surman and Davis and bringing in some loans from League 1? I dont understand?
Arizona Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 I dont understand? Sorry, shouldn't have been a question mark there?
John B Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Sorry, shouldn't have been a question mark there? I understand what you are saying. Who would want the players you suggest.
Arizona Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 I understand what you are saying. Who would want the players you suggest. Surman - Reading Skacel - Ipswich, but he doesn't want to go there. Davis - Anyone with a sh*t keeper. Oh, I forgot Lallana to Spuds possibly.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Beware the thunder of approaching jingle bells - remember the Saints have not won a game over the Christmas/New year period in 74 years . :^o
Amesbury Saint Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 4 league matches unbeaten in September?
suewhistle Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Beware the thunder of approaching jingle bells - remember the Saints have not won a game over the Christmas/New year period in 74 years . :^o Yep, and I visit the UK for Christmas. Last year two (appalling) home defeats. It was a little better during my September visit, so let's hope the next visit is better (it certainly couldn't be worse IMHO).
um pahars Posted 29 November, 2008 Posted 29 November, 2008 Beware the thunder of approaching jingle bells - remember the Saints have not won a game over the Christmas/New year period in 74 years . :^o A run like that can't go on forever, it has to be broken at some point. A double over Reading would be my prediction!!!!!!!!!

alpine_saint Posted 30 November, 2008 Posted 30 November, 2008 Indeed, this run is promising. A pity it will come to a grinding halt when the January window opens.
St Landrew Posted 30 November, 2008 Posted 30 November, 2008 (edited) Indeed, this run is promising. A pity it will come to a grinding halt when the January window opens. Alpine. You make some valid comments [for example, re Kelvin Davis in another thread], and I'm sure they are well intended. But you need to join the rest of us when we're not debating the low points this club has reached during the last couple of seasons, and get your chin off your chest. I know it's hard when thinking about SFC, but cheer up..! Edited 30 November, 2008 by St Landrew
Fan The Flames Posted 30 November, 2008 Posted 30 November, 2008 With shooting boots on the 1 points could have been three, hopefully JP is working on it.
Deppo Posted 30 November, 2008 Posted 30 November, 2008 With shooting boots on the 1 points could have been three, hopefully JP is working on it. Maybe we need pink boots.

I now it's hard when thinking about SFC, but cheer up..! Its a bit hard to do so, considering the fact that it appears against all-the-odds JP is slowly pulling this situation round, but in Janurary he is going to be back to square one. If we dont sell any of our first eleven, I am confident we will end up mid-table. If we do we will be relegated. Its so damned frustrating, because I think it is being driven by Lowe's youth(-in-the-shop-window) dogma, not by Barclays. I cannot believe Barclays reckon getting relegated and subsequent reduced attendances and ST sales is the best approach to protect their asset.

I cannot believe Barclays reckon getting relegated and subsequent reduced attendances and ST sales is the best approach to protect their asset. Indeed, some valid points again. I've decided that I cannot allow myself to think as far ahead as January/February. The above is speculation, even if it is well considered speculation, and will possibly/probably come true. But Jan Poortvliet is positive, and I don't think we can let him down by being negative. Even if all the pointers are telling us to be so.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 30 November, 2008 Posted 30 November, 2008 Beware the thunder of approaching jingle bells - remember the Saints have not won a game over the Christmas/New year period in 74 years . :^o I'm pretty sure Saints beat Spurs at home boxing day when Hoddle returned to club for the first time and Saints won 4-2 at Chelsea new years day a few years ago.
