Saint-scooby Posted 28 March, 2013 Posted 28 March, 2013 I see they are finally opening in town on May 04 I went to the one in Reading a few weeks ago was quite impressed, far better than Makro.
Spudders Posted 28 March, 2013 Posted 28 March, 2013 Is this the chain that's owned by Dev, first branch was in Coronation Street?
LVSaint Posted 28 March, 2013 Posted 28 March, 2013 Costco is pretty decent over on this side of the pond for a cash and carry - better than the Walmart equivalent, Sam's Club. In a similar vein, Fresh N' Easy (Tesco subsidiary) is in it's death throes over here. A real shame but then it wasn't a proper 'English supermarket' experience, a bit half arsed TBH. But I'll miss my English bacon, Yorkie bars and squash when it finally pops it's clogs.
Hockey_saint Posted 28 March, 2013 Posted 28 March, 2013 Yeah, the looks I often get when I try to explain what squash is.
Alwightmush Posted 28 March, 2013 Posted 28 March, 2013 What's Costco got over Makro out of interest?
Viking Warrior Posted 28 March, 2013 Posted 28 March, 2013 Much more variety than makro ( and they change stuff regularly. I shop there it is brilliant. When I go south I go to reading up here I go to the one in Aberdeen
Jonnyboy Posted 6 May, 2013 Posted 6 May, 2013 So any been? Ill probably get down this afternoon. Any standout deals?
spyinthesky Posted 6 May, 2013 Posted 6 May, 2013 Presume any one can join? There appears to be certain occupation limitations for non trade members
Viking Warrior Posted 6 May, 2013 Posted 6 May, 2013 No you can become a member . There are restrictions when you can go in though most days you cannot go in till lunch time
ecuk268 Posted 6 May, 2013 Posted 6 May, 2013 They had an open evening on Friday. Went down with the missus. Loads of free food and soft drinks, coffee etc and lots of samples of the fish, meat, cakes etc that they sell. Haven't been to Makro for years so can't compare but they have an impressive range of stock, even tyres. To get an individual membership you have to involved in (or retired from) certain professions like local government, civil service, education. There's a slight restriction in when you can go. Basically, the mornings are restricted to trade members only.
