PES Posted 29 November, 2008 Share Posted 29 November, 2008 From The Sun: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article1985012.ece TONY'S POMPEY CASH BOOST! PORTSMOUTH boss Tony Adams will not be selling his major stars after it emerged last night the club’s cash crisis is over. The Fratton Park faithful had feared a mass exodus to Spurs by the likes of Jermain Defoe, Lassana Diarra and Peter Crouch. But the sales are off as Pompey’s cashflow woes will be eased by the arrival of £10million due from bankers following the sale of Sulley Muntari to Inter. And, with £5m received in compensation for former boss Harry Redknapp’s exit, things are looking up. Adams will also welcome bids for midfield duo Sean Davis and Richard Hughes, along with defensive pair Hermann Hreidarsson and Richard Duffy, as he looks to further improve the club’s finances. A source revealed: “The Muntari situation was the cause of all the rumours surrounding the club’s financial problems. “But it was simply a cashflow problem which will now be resolved as a result of a solution being found to release the cash. “With the money for Harry counted in, the club is now looking to cash in some assets which could see them up to £20million to the good.”

PES Posted 29 November, 2008 Author Share Posted 29 November, 2008 My point being this is as likely to be b*llocks as any of the other 'boring' drivel the press comes up with. But if your so ready to believe the doomsayers in the press, then surely you believe this too? For what it's worth my take on it is that it's all b*llocks. Weston Super Saint Posted 29 November, 2008 Share Posted 29 November, 2008 I think it's excellent news! By keeping all those players you won't reduce your wage bill and you'll accumulate even more debt by the end of the season

stevegrant Posted 1 December, 2008 Share Posted 1 December, 2008 Muntari was sold for, what, about £12m? Transfers are generally conducted on a "pay half up front and then the rest in a year's time" basis, so about £6m would have been received initially, and then the rest will be due in the summer. Also, how is it that the bankers have suddenly been able to free up this money, if true? The £5m from Spurs for Redknapp makes sense, and coupled with the £6m from Inter in the summer that makes £11m, but surely that £6m would have been available for quite a while, rather than it being a very sudden thing... ivangolac Posted 1 December, 2008 Share Posted 1 December, 2008 'a solution being found to release the cash' where was this cash ?? why was it witheld ?? was it frozen by the banks ?? more questions than answers in this flimsy statement ....
