Barry Sanchez Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Questioning it now after 8 mnths is pretty retarded, but questionning it before they've ever played is quite embarrassing on your part. Who Forren? Why sign a player if you are not going to play him , Mayuka as well, care to comment on the 87th best player in the World?
Saint Garrett Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Lets not deal with speculation of a possible 11th place as some teams will win and others draw and still climb, lets deal with the facts of where we are and not others. But you're speculating about us getting relegated, which at the moment is less likely than us finishing 11th...
Matthew Le God Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Lets not deal with speculation of a possible 11th place as some teams will win and others draw and still climb, lets deal with the facts of where we are and not others. Umm.. you are the one complaining of the quality of players and saying we are in a relegation fight! All I did was point out to you that the players we signed that you are complaining about have taken a newly promoted side to closer to 11th place than 17th place after 30 games.
Saint Garrett Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Who Forren? Why sign a player if you are not going to play him , Mayuka as well, care to comment on the 87th best player in the World? Looked handy when I've seen him, for whatever reason he has not featured. At the moment he is a poor signing but in 2 years time he might be a our top scorer. Who knows? Things are really not that black and white in reality. Time will tell. If he has contributed nothing by the end of next season, then you can say it has been a poor signing.
Bearsy Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 But you're speculating about us getting relegated, which at the moment is less likely than us finishing 11th... yo G do you mind pipe down for a bit? MLG vs Barry Sanchez is the spazboard dispute fight fans have been waiting for! Ur getting a bit in the middle with ur leave it MLG he's not worth it
Tokyo-Saint Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 I am getting confused, does Turks have a new log in? Baz, what's your opinion on the proposed 70,000 seater cortesedome?

How has Mayuka contributed to our cause, did the transfer policy take into account him being ****e? Forren not being fit or good enough? Very flexible transfer policy this, a bit like working for Google.................
NickG Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 I struggle with some of your logic Barry. Whilst player performance is, to some extent, subjective, I disagree with you righting Ramirez off for several reasons. 1) top managers acknowledge that overseas players, typically young ones, do not fulfill their potential in their first season in the country. 2) Ramirez is still young. He is younger than Lallana, Cork, Morgan, Rodriguez and Mayuka! 3) saints didn't pay his transfer fee viewing it as a fair price for a season. The fee considers service for the length of a contract and any fee gained should he leave. Of course he hasn't been value for his total fee yet. 4) I also think he has been decent for us. I have been disappointed that he hasn't performed as I hoped he would after watching him in the home game v Aston Villa. He is intelligent, sees passes others don't, brave in wanting possession. He is not a headless chicken, quite subtle at times. Watch games and see how a quick pass, finding space changes games. I also don't understand why signing Forren is already classed, by you, as unwise? Again he is young - 25 for CB, international. Since he signed we have been doing well and he hasn't been used. So? Would you rather start next season with the only CB cover a 30 year old? Or introduce a young international into the squad? Luxury player? Not sure what that means...you would rather Robbie Savage? Personally I pay my money to see luxury players.... Seem to remember last time in premier league we had a decent one! Experienced prem players? Much rather the club had exciting skilled squad, improving and with an eye on the future, rather than average journeymen players who you feel special having plodded in the 'unique' football of prem. You mention Ferguson...he is not against buying young foreign talent and showing patience.
Matthew Le God Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 (edited) How has Mayuka contributed to our cause, did the transfer policy take into account him being ****e? How many games have you seen him play to judge this 22 year old international "****"? He was the golden boot winner at the 2012 African Cup of Nations and played for the side that won the tournament, he also turned the game towards Saints vs. Tottenham at St Mary's and looked very useful. Yes, he has only had cameo appearances but I wouldn't be so quick to write him off as you seem to be! Same applies for Vegard Forren. Edited 25 March, 2013 by Matthew Le God

Mayuka was superb when he came on vs Spurs, and looked lively vs Villa and WHU. You even admitted you've never seen him play. And Forren? how do you know? He's an international ball playing CB, who is 24 and Liverpool showed an interest in him. I have questioned the timing of the transfer, but Im sure the club wouldn't be so stupid to buy Forren for £4m if they know he isn't very good. Have some patience? He'll probably be our no1 CB next season.
tajjuk Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Thing is Barry's argument as usual falls flat, "Premiership experienced" players, so like Adam Johnson, Matt Jarvis for example, or maybe Titus Bramble, John O'Shea, Jordan Henderson? Andy Carroll, Joe Cole anyone? Jose Bosingwa, Wright Phillips, Charlie Adam, Jay Bothroyd? A colleciton of 'premiership experience' right there.

Andy Carroll, Joe Cole anyone? Jose Bosingwa, Wright Phillips, Charlie Adam, Jay Bothroyd? A colleciton of 'premiership experience' right there. You have just picked players having a bad season or simply bad players, we buy one player for £12million and he is average yet people are desperate for him to be awesome, he is not so then we are given the rhetoric of him taking time to settle in as he is living in a foreign Country (we did sign him from another foreign Country so not too sure about that reasoning but there we go), he then last 60 mins on average in game and again we are given the "he is carrying an injury" deflection shield, so much so it appears Gaston Ramirez is covered in teflon. Is short we have bought a player on a "gimmee" free season pass, if we go down he gets sold on and we make a loss and our premiership status while our star hairdresser moves his salon to pastures new, bit of a gamble if you ask me, and seeing as he has not justified his price "this" questioning his transfer is as well justified.
Saint Garrett Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 But if you split his transfer into....6m for his talent now, and 6m for what he might become, then it's really not that bad. Was Chamberlain worth £15m when we sold him after playing in L1? No definitely not, but he has huge potential and that costs money.

You miss my point regardless of his ability no one should be given a year to settle in when it take 9 months to be relegated, so talent is a moot point if he is ballsy about feeling sorry for himself missing Uruguay and not being fully match fit, he owes us that. In our first year in the Premiership back we should not have got him, when we are or would be an established Premiership football club of course not a problem but not now and never in a first year, or not as our beacon of intent.
Saint Garrett Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 But Cortese was never expecting us to be fighting for relegation which is why he funded the transfer. Not a ridiculous thing to want to sign the best players possible for us to push on. And he'll be better next season because of it.

So Cortese, a man running a professional football could not imagine with a squad like ours struggling this season? The man is a complete ****wit then, as a mere amatuer like myself could of pointed that out. And him a man of numbers gambling on our future by doing it this way, sacking a manager (I did never rate him but the point is timing and appointing a foreign one who cant speak English) in January, it beggers belief.

Did you predict 4 points from 10 first games followed by some howlers from a young keeper? If so, I´m impressed....

Once we sorted out our keeper situation, we've been running at midtable form...I expect this is where Cortese was expecting us to be.

He hasn't kicked a ball for saints for 3 months and two managers, one of which was the next great British manager and the incumbent who is even better according to this forum have seen fit not to let him anywhere near the pitch. What do you think could be the reason?

Red Posted 26 March, 2013 Posted 26 March, 2013 I understand all the answers to my point but do maintain it is a bit rough if Adkins got players foisted on him against his wishes, and say those players don't meet standards (Mayuka perhaps), then it is he who gets the bullet. I am not saying his sacking was wrong, just a manager surely needs to have the uppermost say on who we are to sign as long as the finances meet the approval and sanction of the Chairman. Otherwise it's like telling an artist to paint with some elses brushes or a F1 driver to drive someone elses car. Having said that I do think Adkins made a monumental error approaching the Premiership with just Gazza and Davis as our keepers. For that alone - if it was his decision - he deserved to be replaced. I don't think the results and player performance was the main reason behind NA's sacking - they were certainly factors, but IMHO not the main ones. Rather, I believe NA did not buy in to and fully embrace the overall NC approach (The Southampton Way if you like), as the article portrays there was a certain set up and style that NC always wanted from day 1 - 4 3 3, attacking, attractive football - the Barca model if you like. Both AP and NA did not embrace that fully, particularly in L1 - add to that under AP we failed in the first season, and were woefully unprepared in the second, NC had enough and made a change but do due to AP's performance, rather not embracing the "Project". With NA, he still does not embrace "The Project" completely, but is very successful and thus creates an issue for NC, and who knows maybe NA convinced NC that the Barca way would not get you promoted from L1?? Success continues the following season and NA does try a few "strange" formations which did not really work - and I am guessing there were many heated discussions between NC and NA as to why NA could not get "The Project" to work and was he the right person to drive the club forward after all?? Ultimately NA delivers but by this time knows "The Project" is not for him and hence the comments on our greatest day after the Coventry game. Upon reflection NA thinks what the hell, I will go for the NC gig and he plays the new formation and it nearly works for the first few games (bar incredible bad luck and poor substitutions - maybe he just lost his nerve at the last minute?). Eventually after 10 poor results NC wants to get rid, but NA pleads that if he is allowed to play his way he can rescue the situation, which he slowly does but it ain't the Barca way!! All is well for a while, but NC decides the only way to true greatness is "The Project" and ironically by getting limited success via the NA old fashioned approach, NC is convinced his gut feel is correct and whilst NA might keep us up and even achieve a modicum of success, he will never truly embrace "The Project" or deliver the holly grail - so get rid! As for the timing, who knows - I personally think most good businessman act immediately they know they need to make a change, and that is what happened. He has gone for MP as he totally embraces the Barca way and "The Project", and I am convinced NC would even accept relegation as a necessary evil to get the right system in place if needed. After all if we were totally comfortable playing the Barca / 4 3 3 system for two years prior to PL, would we not be a lot more comfortable and not have wasted the first 10 games? Before the usual on here get all arsey, this is just my opinion, I have no inside info or fact, or Heinz/HP - if you not agree, fair enough. I did like NA and do find it strange that he was not acknowledged for his fantastic achievements by NC and the club, but who really knows what really transpired?
david in sweden Posted 30 March, 2013 Posted 30 March, 2013 I understand all the answers to my point but do maintain it is a bit rough if Adkins got players foisted on him against his wishes, and say those players don't meet standards (Mayuka perhaps), then it is he who gets the bullet. Having said that I do think Adkins made a monumental error approaching the Premiership with just Gazza and Davis as our keepers. For that alone - if it was his decision - he deserved to be replaced. I think this was the straw that broke the camel's back. How someone like NA (a former goalie himself) couldn't see the obvious flaws in his " goalkeeper-strategy " is beyond me. I think this was the beginning of his end after we lost at Arsenal. If KD had been the real thing, he would surely have got more recognition last season, (when England only had Hart to choose from). 20 clean sheets was a record partly due to our good defence. Most Prem. sides have one (or more) international keepers on their books...we had none. Whilst you can get by with a second-rate midfielder on the bench - goalies must be best you can get. If Cortese deserves credit for anything this season, it was signing Boruc when he did - even though NA refused to use him at first....I dread to think where we'd be if our only choices were between KD and Gazzaniga.
