Fitzhugh Fella Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 We soon hope to be publishing our book on the careers/lives of over 1000 players who have played competitive football for the Saints since 1887 (first entered Hampshire Junior Cup) but cannot decide between these 3 titles ALL THE SAINTS SAINTS ALL TOLD WHOLLY SAINTS Would be interested to get the views of this forum if that's ok with the mods
SuperMikey Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 Is Jim Brennan profiled in the book? I hope so. Btw, All The Saints is the best name there.
Jimbo Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 First is better of the three. Wholly saints sounds too contrived and ends up a weak pun
Colinjb Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 Yep, All The Saints. The other two just do not seem right.
The Kraken Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 Sorry, but I'm not a fan of any of those. I suppose All the Saints is the less bad one of the three.
oldsarum Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 How about the History of Southampton FC - Pre Cortese
swannymere Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 Why not just all saints? I prefer just 'All Saints' as well.
ottery st mary Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 All the Saints.....is my choice of three. but True Saints......has a certain ring to it.
Andre Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 All the Saints is the best of those three, but I agree there could be something better out there.
ottery st mary Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 (edited) What about All The Saints Men. Because some were right Tarts:D Examples......Alison Dia , Kerry Dixon , Davina Speedie etc Edited 23 March, 2013 by ottery st mary
shurlock Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 Why not just all saints? Coz it sounds naff and derivative- girl bands, two-bit clothing labels etc have done it to death.
rpb Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 'For all the Saints' is the first line of a hymn. I don't know if tat helps or not...
beatlesaint Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 All The Saints is the best of those three. What about "Once A Saint" as in the old Ted Bates saying "once a Saint, always a Saint" ?
shurlock Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 All The Saints is the best of those three. What about "Once A Saint" as in the old Ted Bates saying "once a Saint, always a Saint" ? very good
The Kraken Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 Surely "All the Saints" would be a title for a book that was an encyclopedia of every single player that played for us. This book doesn't seem to be that. Agree that "All Saints" is a bit better, but still not quite right. I like beatle's "Once a Saint" suggestion.
hasper57saint Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 How about 'Saints and Sinners'? After all some of them were right hard!
Pilchards Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 And it's all Southampton Is my choice for titles.
St Chalet Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 All Saints is also good, just seen the posts above so have added to the poll as well.
St Chalet Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 And it's all Southampton Is my choice for titles. Like this.
The9 Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 I think "All Southampton" is probably the best, though "All Saints" is probably the best of those listed.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 23 March, 2013 Author Posted 23 March, 2013 Thanks for all the responses and for the poll - getting some good feedback
CalneSaint Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 What about "Once A Saint" as in the old Ted Bates saying "once a Saint, always a Saint" ? This
fez Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 If there are more than 1000 entries, A THOUSAND SAINTS has a certain ring to it. Of the titles listed ALL THE SAINTS.
Steeleye Saint Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 And it's all Southampton Is my choice for titles. This is it!
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 Why not make a play on Oh when the Saints Go Marching in I want to be in that number. How about 'In that Number'
CB Fry Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 How about "These people were nothing more than employees of the club and they were paid for their work at the time"
um pahars Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 How about "These people were nothing more than employees of the club and they were paid for their work at the time" LOL Do you think Tesco's are launching their "The Greatest 1,000 Shelf Stackers" ???
St Chalet Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 In That Number? Pretty sure he has used that one already!
Turkish Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 I'm confused as to why Duncs is bring out a book about the players, when we all know the only people that matter at clubs are the chairmen.
Turkish Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 (edited) Why not make a play on Oh when the Saints Go Marching in I want to be in that number. How about 'In that Number'[/ N/t Edited 23 March, 2013 by Turkish Been done
SNSUN Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 Saints Alive! (But quite a few are also dead) - a quality book title you'll agree! Not fussed with the title - been looking forward to it since you mentioned it Duncan. All The Saints is probably the best, because it is about All The Saints.
Norm Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 Saints Behold. CB Fry, you really should get back onto those 'happy' pills. You write just like Victor Meldrew would.
Horton Heath Saint Posted 23 March, 2013 Posted 23 March, 2013 All the Saints Duncan mate. From Culverlands.
