He was the first midfielder to score 100 goals in the premier league.

Indeed. I remember watching Matty set the record straight on Soccer Saturday when Ronaldo reached 100 Premier League goals and every media outlet was claiming he was the first midfielder to do so.

Absolutely was a midfield player.

Somewhen about ten years ago some bellend must have decided he was a striker because he scored so many goals! Any stats compilers after that are just copycats.

Can we mount a campaign with SKY (who are of course the sole fount of knowledge on any matters Premiership) to correct this major error?

Not a midfield player, that's for sure.

He made his name under Chris Nicholl in a 4-2-4 formation. We finished 7th in the league, were the 3rd highest scorers in the league and also the 3rd highest conceded, so it tells you about our wingers' attitude to defending/attacking.

When at his best under Alan Ball, MLT literally didn't have a position; Bally just told him to get into good positions from an attacking sense and for other players to find him, and do his defensive duties for him. 30 goals that season, and I doubt he did any defending.

Of that list only Scholes is a similar type player, and even Scholes was more defensive minded than MLT. Cronaldo is a striker at Real Madrid, and probably was for a year or two before leaving Man United. MLT is, simply, a one-off. Not a midfielder, not a striker, just a genuinely great player.

If he's anything, he's a "forward". Not a midfielder.

So no "major error" there.

Can't be arsed to worry about it all, but why was he not picked as a striker for England when he was knocking in 30 plus goals, weren't we always told by so called better informed people there were better midfielders around at the time such as Gasgoine etc. So using that arguement he was during certain seasons the highest goal scoring Foward not to be picked for England? He was not a foward, he was a midfielder. Perhaps Lampard should be classed as a foward then, what differentiates the two?

What differentiated the two was the simple fact that Le Tiss in his prime had a clear role for Saints where he was the focal point and the entire team was built around him. A role that he was never, ever going to get for England. And rightly so because Le Tiss simply not good enough to fo that role internationally.

Frank Lampard, on the other hand, is a midfielder.

I'm sure better stattos will correct but is the reason Matt's not on there is a lot of his goals were scored in old first division? I think he still scored 100+ in prem but maybe his goals per game ratio isn't as good in prem only. You know how people like to forget there was football before premier league.

See above.....

So if he is classed as a midfielder(which he was), according to Wiki he scored 102 goals in 270 PL games giving goals-per-game ratio of 0.38. This puts him second in the table!
