Gruffalo Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 According to Solent's Twitter.. #Saintsfc defender Luke Shaw again withdraws from England Under 21 through injury
The Kraken Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 Good. He's still only 17 years old and has played in 20 games for us this season. Young players can easily be burnt out by playing them too much and too often, his development needs to be monitored very carefully. Plenty of time for the national side yet; and the last thing Saints need is for him to get injured on international duty. It'll be interesting to see if Saints let him go to the U21 tournament in the summer.
krissyboy31 Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 Didn't he actually get injured training with the 21's last time?
shurlock Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 Didn't he actually get injured training with the 21's last time? Yep - wouldn't be surprised if it was in retaliation for last time.
Saint_clark Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 I think he's just grounded... "There's no point in me cleaning my room because the next day it's just back to the same old mess "
Doctoroncall Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 A shame for him, but we don't want him suffering from a chronic injury with him being so young, from all the games he is playing ATM.
maysie Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 How does the being young thing and not burning them out thing actually work in practice? I'm 31 now when I was 17 I could run and play footie for a lot longer than I can now
SNSUN Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 It's not cover for the announcement he's joining the full England squad tomorrow... is it? ;-)
saint si Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 How does the being young thing and not burning them out thing actually work in practice? I'm 31 now when I was 17 I could run and play footie for a lot longer than I can now Well you obviously burned yourself out then. QED.

LGTL Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 Sometimes on Twitter I think he comes across a tad moody for someone with the world at their feet. Then I remember he's 17 and it probably isn't sinking in yet quite what he has already acheived. It's ridiculous really.
Suomi Saint Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 I don't think he's moody, just a young, immature kid who doesn't really appreciate what awaits him in terms of opportunities. In the next 5 years he will acquire riches that us mere mortals can only dream of, a beautiful leggy WAG, and a mansion complete with cleaning lady. He won't have to worry about his untidy room then. In all honesty, he seems like a good lad, and long may that continue.
ART Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 I find he comes across on Twitter as having frequent mood swings. gets bored easily and extremely sensitive and often lonely. I reckon he must be under some form of restriction being 17 years old, as he doesn't often seem to go out on the town. Just as long as he doesn't turn to drink and recreational drugs to find consolation. I am reminded of a certain George Best who once he turned 18 overdid his new found freedom and we all know the rest.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 I dont think it would take much of a niggle for him to pull out of the squad. The club will be extremely cautious in letting him join up especially if it is a double header of games like it is this time around. Given how **** Danny Fox is it is completely understandable for Saints to wrap Luke up in cotton wool. Lets hope he is ok for Chelsea game and beyond.

Plus Danny Fox has also pulled out of the Scotland squad. Be nice to have at least one fit left back for our next game...although I'd almost rather have Yoshida play there than Fox.... hmmm maybe not!

Saint 76er Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Maybe they pulled Luke out just to be sure, but report says he is going for an ankle scan ... should we be worried? With Fox also injured, watch out for Matt Targett on the training videos ...
Saint137 Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Played full 90 on Saturday, didn't look like he picked up a knock. Possibly needs the time off to rest up from the knock he picked up in the last U-21 camp. Either way, good for us, we need him for the run-in.
Georgie Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Didn't he take a bit of a knock towards the end of the game on Saturday? Seem to remember a brief stop in play before one of Liverpool's corners, the physio didn't come on though. Probably will be ok for Chelsea
