The value of £60m doesn't mean anything though, they're worth 0 at the end of a contract.
Saint Garrett Posted 19 March, 2013 Share Posted 19 March, 2013 Undervalued Morgan, Cork, Shaw, Clyne Lambert and Ward-Prowse IMO. Shaw has half a season of prem football under his belt and has looked outstanding. Add this to the fact he's 17, and I think you're looking at £15m+. Schneiderlin has been our outstanding player of the season and still only 23 - £15m+ Clyne and Cork are both young and English and look at home in the prem. Hard to say as noone is worth anything unless someone is willing to spend the money though.
ToreSF Posted 19 March, 2013 Share Posted 19 March, 2013 It's difficult to value players. The value someone is willing to pay, and the value we are willing to sell for are two different matters in many cases.

Saint Charlie Posted 19 March, 2013 Share Posted 19 March, 2013 Value is what someone will pay and what the club would sell a player for. This season Schneiderlin has performed in the £12m plus bracket for me. Shaw is worth £15m plus because a team that buys him now has a left back at the top level for 15 years and you pay a premium for English players. Therefore Clyne and Cork are between 5-7m for me. Lighthouse Posted 19 March, 2013 Share Posted 19 March, 2013 It's all dependant on how much someone is willing to spend. There is no set value for our players, just look at Andy Carroll. I'd have said he was a decent £10-15m striker during his time at Newcastle in the Premier League but Liverpool come along and pay triple that. I think it would take a bid of over £15m to get Shaw or Morgan off our hands. Probably at least £10m for Cork, Gaston, Clyne, JRod and Lallana. You can argue they aren't worth that but I couldn't see us selling for less than. Why? Because they are young, important players and we don't need to sell them. Saintandy666 Posted 19 March, 2013 Share Posted 19 March, 2013 Shaw worth more than Schneiderlin ? There's a lot more hype around Shaw and he is young and British... and that for whatever reason raises prices!
spyinthesky Posted 19 March, 2013 Author Share Posted 19 March, 2013 Sorry but meant to write Yoshida (worth £2m) between Fonte and Ward Prowse, not Mayuka. As a card carrying pessimist my original thoughts revolved around who would have to go if we were relegated. However if we continue to display the form of recent weeks, and get the odd rub of the green, we should be fine. Quite separately it is interesting to see that Wolves sold at least £20m of players (Fletcher and Jarvis) post relegation and still struggle in the Championship, although I guess they have their new stand to pay for
Andre Posted 19 March, 2013 Share Posted 19 March, 2013 My take... 1. Kelvin Davis - end of career, maybe 1 or 2 seasons in the Championship - £500k 2. Nathaniel Clyne - bought for £2.5mil, now has Premier League experience - £3.5mil 3. Maya Yoshida - bought for £2mil, now has good Premier League experience - £4mil 4. Morgan Schneiderlin - bought for ~£1mil, one of the best DMs around - £10mil 5. Jos Hooiveld - bought in the Championship, decent CB for that level - £1.5mil 6. José Fonte - bought for £800k, a great player with decent experience - £3mil 7. Rickie Lambert - star striker but still a tad old, great goalscorer though - £5mil 8. Steven Davis - free transfer but clearly a top-flight player with room to grow - £4mil 9. Jay Rodriguez - star striker of the Championship and only getting better - £10mil 10. Gastón Ramírez - obviously a big buy but yet to prove himself more - £10mil 11. Billy Sharp - bought for £1.8mil, proven at Championship level - £2mil 12. Paulo Gazzaniga - bought for £2.5mil, very little experience at the moment - £2mil 13. Danny Fox - a very decent Championship player, but nothing more - £1.2mil 14. Dean Hammond - great Championship midfielder but getting on a bit - £2mil 15. Vegard Forren - who the hell knows?! - £4mil? 16. James Ward-Prowse - good player with lots of potential, still very young - £2mil 18. Jack Cork - signed for under a million, but definitely proven himself - £6mil 19. Tadanari Lee - signed for free, probably Championship level still - £1.5mil 20. Adam Lallana - clearly talented, very attractive to clubs everywhere - £15mil 21. Guly do Prado - decent player but getting pretty old - £2mil 22. Frazer Richardson - Championship standard, but a solid purchase - £1.2mil 23. Luke Shaw - massive talent, loads of potential and everyone knows it - £12mil 24. Emmanuel Mayuka - bought for £3mil and nothing really proven yet - £2mil 25. Danny Seaborne - League One level, little experience but not awful - £500k 26. Jack Stephens - still only at under-21 level, decent potential - £800k 27. Richard Chaplow - Championship level, decent midfielder but ageing - £1.2mil 28. Calum Chambers - still young, but has some potential for Championship - £800k 29. Ben Reeves - more potential than most, and proven at least at Champ level - £1.2mil 30. Cody Cropper - young goalie with some potential but nothing proven - £600k 31. Artur Boruc - decent goalkeeper but very old now, still worth it - £2mil 32. Danny Butterfield - same level as Frazer Richardson but older - £1mil 33. Steve De Ridder - a good winger but no higher than Champ level - £1.5mil 34. Corby Moore - young player with decent potential but nothing proven - £600k 35. Sam Hoskings - another young player with more proven striking potential - £800k 36. Jake Sinclair - good young winger, decent potential as above - £800k 37. Dominic Gape - very young midfielder with potential potential (yep!) - £500k 38. Andy Robinson - same as above - £500k 39. Lloyd Isgrove - same as above - £500k 42. Jason Puncheon - decent winger who still has a lot of good years left - £6mil So... adding that up... it comes to £123.7mil... quite a lot really. cambsaint Posted 19 March, 2013 Share Posted 19 March, 2013 Perhaps you've overrated the Championship players as when they are sold, lower offers will be accepted to get them off the books. If you lose one to two years wages you take that into consideration when selling. I think many will go for free or nominal sums, depending on their wages. Crab Lungs Posted 19 March, 2013 Share Posted 19 March, 2013 1. Kelvin Davis - Decent NPC level stopper - £0 - £100,000 2. Nathaniel Clyne - Has the potential to become an England fullback, one season in the EPL though - £9m 3. Maya Yoshida - He probably deserves a larger "valuation" but I don't think he'll be courted or seen as a top level defender - £3m 4. Morgan Schneiderlin - Just signed a long-term contract strengthening our hand, consistently proved to be a solid emerging talent - £15m+ 5. Jos Hooiveld - Has done a half-decent job but is unlikely to cost more now than what we paid for him a year ago - £1.5m 6. José Fonte - Recovered from a horror start in the EPL to become a steady performer - £4m 7. Rickie Lambert - His game is not about "pace" so it's clear he has a few years left in the tank if he can stay free of injuries. Not a "braaaap" megastar-type so will unlikely cost more than £7-8m. Problem is, he's currently worth far more than that to us - £7-8m 8. Steven Davis - Decent EPL level midfielder - £3m 9. Jay Rodriguez - Has really started to motor, performance-wise. If he cost £6m a year ago, he's worth a bit more now as he adds to his reputation - £10m 10. Gastón Ramírez - I think he'll prove himself to be eventually, top, top class. Difficult first seasons but genuine glimpses of fantastic talent - £10m 11. Billy Sharp - Great NPC striker but would likely command no more than what we paid for him - £2m 12. Paulo Gazzaniga - If we paid £2.5m, it's unlikely he's added to a re-sale value. In fact, he may just stagnate and end up going at a significant loss one day - £300,000-£1m 13. Danny Fox - Can definitey perform a tier below comfortably and would have some re-sale value, unlikely what we paid for him though - £1m 14. Dean Hammond - Half-decent NPC performer, unlikely we'd get the £1m back we paid for him now though - £200,000-£400,000 15. Vegard Forren - If he was rated in excess of £10m a couple of years back, you'd think he's a decent buy for £4m. However, if he's to get that kind of valuation again he'll have to play consistently and perform - £4m 16. James Ward-Prowse - Too hard to say, but if he does go on to develop as Saints expect him to, there's no reason why he can't fetch in excess of £5m. What would Saints value him now though? I've no idea. At a guess - £3.5m 18. Jack Cork - Forget Henderson (£20m), Livermore, Cleverley, Shelvey; this guys is a genuine English midfield talent. If he performs well again next season, he should attract plenty more sutiors. At this moment in time, he'd have a lesser valuation than Schneiderlin - £8m 19. Tadanari Lee - We'd be very lucky to get his full value, still think he's a decent footballer and playing regularly, can probably command a larger fee than what I've estimated - £750,000 20. Adam Lallana - As above, see Jack Cork. The only English midfielder that comes close to Joe Cole for skill and creativity and far better than most of the dross involved in Owl-head's England dream teams. Another couple of seasons in the Premier League and he could fetch big, big money - £12m+ 21. Guly do Prado - 31-year-old Brazilian who cops a lot of stick but could still do a decent job one division below or elsewhere. Re-sale value won't be much though - £250,000 - £500,000 22. Frazer Richardson - Dependable right-back and very solid at NPC level - £200,000-£500,000 23. Luke Shaw - Unbelievable for a 17-year-old. Shows maturity beyond his years and I can't think, with the exception of Ashley Cole, of a more complete full-back in England... complete, not just potential. And to think, he'll probably get better. Huge talent. Probably our most prized possession alongside Schneiderlin - £15m+ 24. Emmanuel Mayuka - Hasn't really had the opportunity so unless he performs well on-loan elsewhere, we'd unlikely get what we paid for him... we'd have to take a hit here - £1.5-2m 25. Danny Seaborne - Bog standard L1 centre-half - £100,000-£250,000 26. Jack Stephens - He'll have to prove himself somewhere first before he starts to add digits to his valuation - £100,000-£250,000 27. Richard Chaplow - We'll get more than we paid for him if he we re-signed him for - £400,000-£700,000 28. Calum Chambers - Who knows how he'll develop? - nominal 29. Ben Reeves - Played convincingly in L2, looks like he's above that level but it's too hard to say what we'd ask for him though. I'll hazard a guess - £150,000-£200,000 30. Cody Cropper - Not done anything to prove he's worth anything, surely? - nominal 31. Artur Boruc - Was once touted as one of the top 5 goalkeepers in the world. He's got his head screwed on right now, and hopefully we'll give him a new deal. If not, he foes as a free. If he does sign, however - £3-4m 32. Danny Butterfield - I don't think we'd ask for anything for him. Good, solid servant, will probably get a free transfer - £0-£75,000 33. Steve De Ridder - Unfulfilled potential. At this current stage, he's probably lost value though - £300,000-£1m (if we're lucky) 34. Corby Moore - Don't know - nominal 35. Sam Hoskings - Don't know - nominal 36. Jake Sinclair - Ummm, don't know - nominal 37. Dominic Gape - Haven't a clue - nominal 38. Andy Robinson - I've no idea - nominal 39. Lloyd Isgrove - No idea, again, like most above it's too early to say - nominal 42. Jason Puncheon - Enhanced his reputation like many Saints this year. His new contract could see us command more than what was mooted for him during his loan stay at Blackpool - £4.5m 00. Aaron Martin - Not fulfilled his potential, still looks a bit wobbly even at L1 level - £100,000-£200,

Aaron Martin - Not fulfilled his potential, still looks a bit wobbly even at L1 level - £100,000-£200,000 For a better left back at the moment and more complete think Leighton Baines. For a creative midfielder think Wilshere. Lambert £8 Million? Christ alive. Edited 20 March, 2013 by Barry Sanchez
tajjuk Posted 20 March, 2013 Share Posted 20 March, 2013 For a better left back at the moment and more complete think Leighton Baines. For a creative midfielder think Wilshere. Lambert £8 Million? Christ alive. Leighton Baines is 28, yeh he's better than Shaw but if someone buys him he'll still cost around £20 million I reckon. Wilshere would cost like £30 to £40 million to buy from Arsenal, so £12 million for Lallana isn't a bad cestimate. I'd say more £8-10 million myself. Shaw and Morgan are our prized assetts I couldn't see us selling either for less than £15 million up front plus add ons, and that's only if they really really wanted to go. No one is going to offer us £8 million for Lambert, £5 million tops. But there is no point us elling him as we won't be able to replace him without spending £15 million to get a younger version. Hopefully we don't sell anyone, we need to stay up but if we do I suspect everyone we ant to be here will be here next season.
benjii Posted 20 March, 2013 Share Posted 20 March, 2013 I reckon we will get interest in Yoshida before long. He's young for a centre back and has adapted quickly. His speed of reaction is immense. He takes risks with aggressive positioning but he must e horrible to play against. I would say he is worth around 8million to the right buyer (if Matt Mills is worth 5 FFS!). I can't remember a Saints defence with the mobility of Clyne, Shaw, Yoshida and Fonte and Fonte is the oldest in his mid-twenties. The transfer committee has done a brilliant job in thoughtfully assembling a squad that will set us on the right path for several years to come. Doctoroncall Posted 20 March, 2013 Share Posted 20 March, 2013 I think there are two values for a player, the amount needed to prise a player away as ultimately each player has their price and one were its mutually acceptable that the player needs to move on. Barry Sanchez Posted 20 March, 2013 Share Posted 20 March, 2013 I just love our fans valuations, these are the same fans who think we can roll over any team every game, their players are crap and ours are superb, the sort of playground thinking process that is valueless as it is biased. norwaysaint Posted 20 March, 2013 Share Posted 20 March, 2013 I think there are two values for a player, the amount needed to prise a player away as ultimately each player has their price and one were its mutually acceptable that the player needs to move on. You can kind of add into that the cost of an acceptable replacement too. Some of the valuations on here are reasonable, but there have been some crazy ones too, particularly somebody thinking we'd get half a million for untested kids. The problem with valuing Lambert is the gulf between what he's worth to us/the cost of replacing him and what it would be worth another team paying for him. Obviously any club would have to pay us well over the odds to get Shaw, Clyne, Lallana or Morgan, so what they would be sold for is probably well above their real value. So do you choose how much their talent is really worth, or what ridiculous price it would take for us to part with them?

Turkish Posted 20 March, 2013 Share Posted 20 March, 2013 (edited) My take... Dean Hammond £2m Richard Chaplow & Richardson £1.2m Butterfield £1m De Ridder £1.5m And all the youth team players, many of which have got no where near the first team all at over £500k Edited 20 March, 2013 by Turkish

Matthew Le God Posted 21 March, 2013 Share Posted 21 March, 2013 Like I said, just my take. A take that doesn't take into account a large number of those players are out of contract in 3 months time and are therefore worthless as they won't be getting new deals. Or the odd technicality of how age and lack of experience are detrimental to value (and contradict them selves)... As well as the other classic of players struggling to make back what we paid, doubt there are any of the current team that couldn't command at least what we spent

norwaysaint Posted 22 March, 2013 Share Posted 22 March, 2013 Actually, although I think most of the pricing on here is very silly indeed, especially for non first team regulars and ageing players, I think we would hold teams to ransom for Shaw and Schneiderlin. I think that for exactly those two, we would pretty much refuse to sell, meaning they would indeed have to offer us silly money. Oxlade Chamberlain went for big money in league one, Shaw has shown he can do it in the PL, clubs would have to pay out for him.

How much did ox go for? Shaw is pretty much acknowledged as the future England left back... Morgan is young and statistically one of the best midfielders in Europe right now. So stop having your normal thick sheet routine and go do one.
NickG Posted 22 March, 2013 Share Posted 22 March, 2013 Think the valuations of first team players are about right. Reckon players who are in the group that don't have first team future are being valued too high - partly as they are older/not that great and partly is we are happy to trim them from the squad we won't be making huge demands. Think its a shame the lack of respect a few posters show to others opinions on here. No-one can say with confidence how much Shaw, Lallana, Morgan, Lambert etc would go for - there are random low fees, and there are Torres/Carroll type fees. A WHU fan said last night that he was disappointed as due to new contract they would not be able to afford Lambert and may have to stick with signing Carroll. Ho knows?! Before mocking remember.. Samba 28 years, CB, £12m Jarvis £10m Carroll £35m Torres £50m Rio F £30m in 2002 Bebe £7m played hardly at all Kevin Davies £7.5m when we sold as 21yr to Blackburn Francis Jeffers £8m Glen Johnson £17m 5 years ago (on last game would put both our fullbacks in 60-80m range ) Jordan Henderson £20m Downing £20m Joe Allen £15m Ramirez £12m Connor Wickham £12m Charlie Adam £8m Clearly £15-20m isn't ridiculous valuation for Morgan. Reviews he is getting. Amount of first team experience at young age Young Wants to be here / we want him Long contract We don't need to sell All stats / reports put him at all round cm - fit, energetic, tackles, intercepts, cover ground Now added goals So Barry, reckon some basis for £20m to get him from us. Do you late him lower? Worse investment than older, less able, less involved player like Adam?
Saint Garrett Posted 22 March, 2013 Share Posted 22 March, 2013 It's hard to put a value on a player though. No player is worth £5m realistically, but if the player desn't want to leave, they're one of our 'star' players, then teams will have to cough up for them, it's not like we need the money. I don't think we'd sell Lambert because he's worth more to us than what we could replace him with. Shaw is the highest rated young player in the country at the moment, and Morgan has been absolutely outstanding. I don't see us entertaining any offers short of 15m for Morgan or Shaw, especially if Cortese wants to carry on this vision of building the team round young players. It makes him look pretty stupid if we then go and sell our best young players after 1 season in the prem, and Cortese doesn't come across as someone who likes to be made a mockery of. Your gold, and as usual in the wrong. The valuation in the latest Luke Shaw rumour says £16.5 million, that's an external non-saints related source, so £18 million is exactly of the mark now is it?. JackanorySFC Posted 22 March, 2013 Share Posted 22 March, 2013 Personally thinking £10 million is quite optimistic for Ramirez, if you had a scout come watch most of our games this season I doubt they'd pick him out.. Well seeing as scouts actually understand what makes a good footballer instead of looking for the next headless chicken "get stuck in mush" Chaplow MkII they will have noticed he's our most gifted player by a mile and adapting to the Premiership very well for a 21 year old. It seems that's what those unknowledgeable, anti football morons that are paid to scout for small clubs like AC Milan, Arsenal and Fiorentina that have been watching him think anyway... I genuinely despair at the football intelligence of our fans at some times, just glad they are in the stands rather than on the pitch as they couldn't spot a pass even if was on a FIFA demo! "Get stuck in" "Launch it" "Just hit Lambert FFS" "Why you d***ing about with it at the back, get it FORWARD" Just a selection of the drivel served up by the simpletons within ear shot of me in the Itchen North at times.
