Matthew Le God Posted 22 April, 2013 Posted 22 April, 2013 What an utterly bizarre post. Jos has also played SPL & Champions League football. hmm... Playing 2 Champions League qualifying games vs Braga and 7 SPL games for Celtic. I don't think he played in the Champions League games for FC Copenhagen. The SPL bar the Old firm is lower Championship/upper League One level.
Saint Garrett Posted 22 April, 2013 Posted 22 April, 2013 Why couldn't Sharp? Because he doesn't have enough about him. He's a small striker who lacks pace. Rarely gets away from his man. He's an 'in the box', but he doesn't bring a lot else to the team. Lambert scores goals and his link up play is quite superb. He rarely loses the ball, and quite often picks out passes that other players wouldn't see. Give me RL every day. Sharp is a good hussle and bustle striker in the NPC, but to be a prem player you need more than just working hard and running around a lot.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 22 April, 2013 Posted 22 April, 2013 I just posted a list of the 12 Saints players without previous Prem experience before this season who have done pretty well, as there also "must be a reason [they haven't] had a crack at it before", it was up to you to justify the difference between them and Sharp. Of all of those, I think the Lambert argument is at the very least the same argument, and (contrary to my expectations) he's done well. So why couldn't Sharp ? Simply, Sharp has less to his game. He isn't as technically gifted, or clever a player as Lambert. Even when not scoring, Lambert offers a lot more to the team as he can create and bring others into the game, drop deep, hold up the ball and strikes a mean dead-ball. Sharp is much more an in the box poacher type player, if he doesn't get the ball at his feet in the box, what else is he offering the side? I also think there are better players of the same mould than him in the Prem. Furthermore he doesn't suit our current style of play. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the bloke, and he was a great stop-gap signing that undoubtedly helped us over the line last year, but I just don't think he is a Premiership player. In my opinion he is a Championship level player, that's hardly an insult, the Champ is a great league, and one I'd kill to be good enough to play in personally. He deserves to be playing regular football, and is better than being a bench-warmer picking up a pay-cheque for a premier league team, knowing he is no-where near the first XI.

KelvinsRightGlove Posted 22 April, 2013 Posted 22 April, 2013 What win? I swear when he was out on loan somewhere he played against Utd in theCL, and beat them? Could be wrong, probably confused with someone else.
S-Clarke Posted 22 April, 2013 Posted 22 April, 2013 (edited) I swear when he was out on loan somewhere he played against Utd in theCL, and beat them? (and played as well) I have absolutely no idea how I remembered that. Edited 22 April, 2013 by S-Clarke

The9 Posted 22 April, 2013 Posted 22 April, 2013 Saganowski in the champions league -- The mind boggles! He was a very good player in the months when he was trying to get himself a contract.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 22 April, 2013 Posted 22 April, 2013 He was a very good player in the months when he was trying to get himself a contract. Not the first, definitely won't be the last!
Lighthouse Posted 22 April, 2013 Posted 22 April, 2013 He was a very good player in the months when he was trying to get himself a contract. Bit of an unfair view on him. Personally I thought he was a decent player but required a decent team to get the best out of him. Work rate was never his issue, just confidence. After Burley signed him permanently, he then dropped him in favour of BWP. I also remember Saga coming back from Aalborg and banging them in for a month or so, then he lost his confidence again. Don't forget the 2 years after he signed a permanent deal were spent in the worst Saints team for about 50 years.
SaintBobby Posted 23 April, 2013 Posted 23 April, 2013 good news. I've been trying hard to get my contract extended, even given a reasonable assessment of ours and west hams chances of staying up on the "remaining games" thread. Not wind ups for a while. Once i've signed the deal i can do a puncheon and revert to type. lmao
SaintBobby Posted 23 April, 2013 Posted 23 April, 2013 I looked up the link to the squad that supposedly shows their contracts and their transfer values. ( see other thread) In the entire first team squad, we only have (available at present) as many strikers as goalkeepers. Three of each. Just saying.

( see other thread) In the entire first team squad, we only have (available at present) as many strikers as goalkeepers. Three of each. Just saying. With the formation we play, there is only a requirement to have one of each on the pitch at any one time. Just saying. (Although, of course, more than one could be on the pitch at the same time but playing in a different position other than one designated to them on that site. Similarly, other players not designated as a striker (or goalkeeper, even) could play in that (those) position(s).) (Just saying.)
wireframebox Posted 23 April, 2013 Posted 23 April, 2013 Looks like FC Tokyo are trying to iron out a fee for Tadanari Lee for a permanent move in the summer. http://www.sponichi.co.jp/soccer/news/2013/04/23/kiji/K20130423005664370.html
