Re-sign

Out on loan

Good news. I've been trying hard to get my contract extended, even given a reasonable assessment of ours and West Hams chances of staying up on the "remaining games" thread. Not wind ups for a while. Once i've signed the deal i can do a puncheon and revert to type.

Anyone we can get on loan from UI?

Please can we get rid of Billy Sharp.

I really like the guy, but the endless talk of him coming back/playing in the Prem just does my head in.

Struggling to get a look in at Forest now, yet people will still want him in the Prem. There must be a reason he has not been given a crack at it before.

Both parties should just move on in my opinion.

We need to add shirleysfc to the out on loan list due to yet another top contribution to a thread :) "who are you"

I'd keep Mayuka and that's about it from that lot, im sure MP has a lot of South American/Spanish players in mind to strengthen us but we need to get rid of that list first.

From that list I'd rather we keep Mayuka, Richardson, Guly, Fox and possibly Sharp until adequate replacements are acquired (even if only to act as squad players).

Richardson cant get a game with Yoshida prefered at right back when Clyne has been unavailable. Our first XI is decent and if we can add strength in depth in the summer we can push on to be a midtable side next year.

(In Will Smith accent) "Awwwww HELL NO."

The others I perhaps agree with, unless better reinforcements can be made, but I'd rather no back up left back than Fox. I'd rather play Jos or Forren at left back. Or Seaborne. Or my wife. Ok perhaps not her, but you get the gist. Even Harding would have been better back up than Fox. I loathe knocking a Saints player but Fox is not Premier League quality and never will be.

Perhaps, but I still think Frazer's decent cover - especially if we end up short in central defence and need Yoshida there. By all means get rid if there's a viable replacement, but not before we source one!

But yes, it's clear there's substantial improvement we can (and ought to) make to the overall quality of the squad if we want to step up.

Twaddle. Why hasn't Seaborne been utilised at LB then? How did Fox keep Harding out of the starting XI for most of last season?

Because we were in the Championship. Fox is better going forward but Harding was the better defender. Thank God we promoted Shaw when we did, he's been exceptional. A new left back much needed in the summer. The others I'd keep, but I think Sharp will probably be off anyway.

Whose contracts will expire in the summer?

I know that Forecast's, Dickson's and Chaplow's will (fat chance of getting £100k for him). Would have thought that Seaborne and Forte are at the end of theirs. Doubt that Mayuka's or Lee's will expire. How about anyone else?

Exactly my thoughts. Was brought in to get us over the line and he repaid us in spades. But he needs to be playing regular football and he's not going to get that here (not Forest it seems). Could see hime ending up back at Sheffield United to be honest.

Harding was no way close to being a better defender, nor as good going forward. Harding was just dreadful. Done a job in L1 but pretty awful apart from that. Fox is a top half Champ player, but is being shown up in the Prem as he isn't good enough at this level.

Neither is Seaborne or Harding, or Hooiveld at LB for that matter. Personally I think Fox is more than capable at LB for a lower Prem team.

He isn't. He is too slow and static for this league and is a liability every time he plays.

Related to this, I wonder why there was no thread slating Shaw after the free-kick that went straight to a Liverpool player on saturday and nearly (possibly should have, as Sturridge wasn't offside) resulted in a goal? If it had been Fox you can be damn well sure there would be 6-7 pages about it.

Similarly, had Guly messed up the one on one Lambert did...

Agreed, but only if we really push on and substantially increase our shots at goal stats

Good point, as Ollalanas stats proved at the weekend the team that has the most shots at goal doesn't win in more than 50% of games.

don't worry glasgow, i've got your back. kelvinshandpuppet won't mess with us any more.

also richardson should stay, he's a solid backup to clyne.

Really? Was woeful vs Everton away, and don't think he's played since ? Yoshida and Cork have both been preferred to him playing in his 'proper' position.

you mean richardson? kelvinsrightglove is always woeful, hence my confusion.

you're probably right, i just like having a right back who is able to whip in a fairly decent cross. maybe i'm still hanging onto my view of him in the championship.

I am a master RB, crosses like Mr. Whippy.

Richardson simply isn't Premiership quality. Much like your grammar.

FFS, take a hint from your name and use some capital letters once in a while.

Like with Lambert, Boruc, Clyne, Rodriguez, Yoshida, Hooiveld, Fonte, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Ramirez, Ward-Prowse and Lallana, you mean ?

What an utterly bizarre post. Not even an ounce of consistency in the comparisons.

Boruc has played in Serie A & SPL, so some top levels, including Champions League football.

Jos has also played SPL & Champions League football.

Yoshi played in a top division in Holland.

Clyne, Rodriguez & Lallana and probably even Morgan are all younger and have had less time establishing themselves in the Championship.

Gaston has played Serie A and has international experience, prior to joining Saints.

Shaw & JWP are academy graduates both not yet even 19.

Until last year Lambert hadn't even played at Championship level, so judging whether a guy in his late 20's can make the jump from L1 to the Prem is perceived as a greater risk, especially seeing as it would have taken a sizable offer to prise him away from Saints. Even this year there were doubts from fans and pundits whether or not he could do it on this level.

Sharp has been regularly playing and scoring in the Championship for a more prolonged period (even then usually closer to the bottom end of that league than the top) than those you mention - yet still no-one took a punt on him.

I just posted a list of the 12 Saints players without previous Prem experience before this season who have done pretty well, as there also "must be a reason [they haven't] had a crack at it before", it was up to you to justify the difference between them and Sharp.

Of all of those, I think the Lambert argument is at the very least the same argument, and (contrary to my expectations) he's done well. So why couldn't Sharp ?
