Looks like Adkins may be in charge of Reading by the time we get there

Well seems to be the perfect way to test Nicolas strategy ... Adkins the manager vs Adkins team in the race to stay up. I think Reading have too much to do but I fully expect us to lose away to Reading now. Good luck to Nigel just not this season!

Looking at that press conference he looked uncomfortable. The job is a step down for Nigel. I wouldn't be surprised if his heart isn't in it. Leeds looked a better fit. Anyway, as long as he doesn't take points off us he has my best wishes.

Reading are two games short of making a fist of it IMO. If they had 10 games left, they'd have a chance IMO. The damage is done, but they still might be a bit of a wounded animal.

They'll beat us no doubt.

Why? Reading will go down this season, but they will also be firm favorites to go back up again on first attempt. Probably Nigels best shot at managing in the PL within two years.

Other than not taking any other jobs and going to one of the bottom half sides next season ? Stoke will probably have a vacancy within a year based on Pulis taking them as far as they can go, that would be ideal for him at a side where they're suddenly getting narky about stagnation and their style.

As much as I respect NA, I don't think he's experienced enough to take an already established Premiership side onto bigger and better things. He'll get Reading promoted if they do go down this season, he'll be a good mid-table Prem manager, but that's as far as I see him going. I doubt Stoke will appoint him as the man to turn them into a top-7 side, which is the next step for them.

Agree with this. I think Stoke has painted themselves into a corner with signing players that are suitable to a style of football that will never get you into top 7. Adkins would struggle to succeed with that lot.

Nice touch there from NA to say thanks to us, very classy indeed. Certainly a lot classier than the way we got rid of him with barely a mention. But hey ho, what's done is done.

I think we will probably be OK this season, just hope that we avoid defeat at Reading. That would be very embarrassing and would more than likely put the media spotlight firmly back on Cortese and Pochettino, just when we don't need it.

So what happens in the saints soap opera should the miraculous happen and Adkins keeps reading up at our expense?

Erm half the squad are killed off in a tram crash and Adkins is found in bed with Cortese and Les Reed?

NAs dismissal is SO going to come back and bite us on the arse now.....

Look on the bright side, Alps. Bit o' spice for the end of the season, isn't it?

I highly doubt that mate. We're playing too well at the moment.

Those performances against QPR and Norwich were spectacular...

We've turned on the style against the big boys but woefully underachieved against the teams around us

Agree 100%. I simply cannot conceive that there Is even the slightest possibility that we might lose to Reading

Reading are SUCH a bogey team though. Wouldn't be that confident to call it a win.

I dont. It'll be Adkins team he needs to sort out VERSUS here's one I did earlier. A defeat by Saints will be almost like "see this quality opposition is the team I am capable of building"

We played well at Norwich.

Tbh we should have beaten Norwich, wasn't that bad. Granted QPR was plain awful.

The QPR performance wasn't awful, Saints dominated the game and had over 3x as many chances as QPR (17 to 5). Poor finishing let us down, like it also did in the Norwich game.

Would be a nice touch and the least we could do, for the away fans at the Reading match to acknowledge Nigel's efforts before getting behind MP and the boys! Possibly something to the tune of (For He's a Jolly Good Fellow/The Saints are going up).

The Saints went back to back, The Saints went back to back.

With thanks to Nigel Adkins, With thanks to Nigel Adkins,

Beat Aston Villa twice, QPR away, Reading at home and drew at Wigan. So far 13 points out of possible 21 is not underachieved in my book

I listened to his interview after taking the Reading job and thought it sounded basic to say the least. It had no real substance to it, just that Reading was a good club and they would take each game at a time. He did not sound that prepared and it was certainly all the familiar sound-bites he was quoting. I liked the guy, but I did not think he did himself any favours in that press conference. Anyway lets just draw a line under that one and move on! ;)

Nigels press conference only confirmed to me how much he loves Southampton FC. It was the same as when Harry joined us, clear to see his heart was not in it - He does not want to be at Reading 100% no brainer. Make no bones about it though, he will be doing his utmost to keep Reading up at our expense.

Turkish can you start one of these please? Maybe charming man can light a flare that says thank you Nigel?

Let's face it, when he comes out he will get on loud 'one Nigel Adkins' and that's it on to the game. If things are going well for us maybe Nigel give us a wave.

For he's a jolly good fellow won't get sung outside of 80th birthday parties at your country club unfortunately.

What tune did we sing for the second half of last season then? The Saints are going up, and know you're going to believe us etc etc?

True but we all know that for some fans a win = great and a loss = sh*t irrespective of the performance, particularly those that don't go to games and just react to the scoreline.

You only need to look at the post match reaction threads to see who they are.

Based on what?

Based on his number of promotions, his record in the football league and his record in the Prem.

I know who I'd rather have in charge if I was a Reading fan.

Comparing his Premiership record with BM's is like comparing apples and Oranges, look at the spending of both clubs.

I'd rather have the Championship in my trophy cabinet. BM saved Reading from relegation, took them to the play off final and then won the trophy in his 3 years. That's a pretty impressive record of success at Championship level and don't believe Adkins is an upgrade on that.

QPR was very poor.

Stats aren't everything.

Leeds have no money. At all. They got bought out by the only Arabs with no money. Well, other than THOSE ones.

Turks, I'm a big fan of your work - so don't take this the wrong way. This is a great start, but it's needlessly repetitive. Can I suggest for the chorus:-

Oh Nigel Adkins is tactically inept, played Jay Rod on the left, said "Gazza, you're the best"

Nigel Adkins is tactically inept, with the points that we'd have kept, into Europe we'd have crept

So, in your opinion, the better manager is one who took three years to achieve promotion as opposed to the one who did it in his first year?

I just hope he's too emotionally attached to really have a go at us, just like we went to Liverpool in December...would have been a wasted trip had it not been for the cracking night out...

No money like S****horpe then...only much bigger. Leeds looks unstable admittedly.

How has Adkins managed to sign for Reading whilst still being employed by Saints?

At least that's how it looks, as NA was supposedly on gardening leave but still a club employee. This would mean he would have to resign his post and thus not be entitled to a payout, or Reading would have to negotiate with Cortese for his services, which would normally require a fee. Seems unlikely Cortese would agree to this prior to our game against them.

Apparently NA is taking legal action through the LMA for a settlement, but surely he is either under contract to Saints or he is not. Somehow he is now employed by one of our rivals but is still wanting monies from us. This all doesn't seem to equate and if he wasn't a free agent how has he walked into another job before the tribunal has met to assess his case?
