Looks like Adkins may be in charge of Reading by the time we get there

One game at a time, pulling together as one. It's a hard working squad and we are fighting for survival. I am the manager of Reading football club, it's a good club with people working hard behind the scenes. It's time to draw a blue line under Southampton and move on to the future.

Awwww, I miss him now :(

One of the things i loved about Adkins, that came across well in that interview and that made me so angry with the way we treated him, was his absolute class. The guy has genuine class and dignity and deserves to go a long way in the game.

Shame he had to choose a two bit club like reading to do it at really.

Bit like looking at a photo of an ex with her new fella that. Worse that he's wearing a blue and white tie, makes me think of them s****s down the M27.

Another brilliant insight into NA's footballing philosophy.

No-one in that press conference will be in any doubt about how Reading are likely to line up :)

Strange appointment. Love Adkins, great guy, top manager. But if they did go for Poyet, they are rating someone with no Premier League experience over their eventual choice.

I hope it works out for Nigel as I've rated him since Scunny, but the whole Reading set-up looks destined for disaster, IMO.

I can imagine it will be a very emotional day for most of the players at Southampton and Nigel himself. For those with tickets the "Love In" can continue before the game - afterwards too - but not in between!

Reading fans are so up themselves - but the team are capable of playing and beating the best - not sure about us though. No doubt they will raise their game and try for 3-points - we mustn't let them.

No doubt MP will have a game plan - the same as every week! We do somehow look more threatening against some teams - but I fear Reading will not one of them.

Tough game ahead whatever the result this Saturday and I can see them sneaking it...

Interesting view from a Reading fan...

http://www.football365.com/mailbox/8598839/Mails

I arrived home from work to my loving family, greeted by my over-enthusiastic dog, with a casual sense of a day gone well. Work had presented its usual course of challenges, which had been conquered in an efficient manner, leaving me with a sense of satisfaction, a warm glow about me as I contemplated an evening relaxing in front of the television with my partner, and hey, why not a beer or two? Served chilled straight from the fridge, naturally.

And then - horror of horrors. My Henry Winter- like style overly drawn out introduction is ruined. A cold fear sweeps over me, a chill runs up my spine, a bead of perspiration filters it's way down my brow - the beginnings of the inevitability of despair.

This season, as a Reading fan, has not presented us much to cheer. Several players whom we had high hopes for have failed spectacularly to live up to their wage packets (yes, you, Mr. Pogrebnyak), results have gone against us, even the false dawns of 4-0 leads against Arsenal shattered and of course, impending relegation (come on, who are we kidding?). The sacking of Brian McDermott was a real shame, a thoroughly well liked man, however it pains me to say that he probably deserved to go, based on his tactical naivety.

But, the worst is yet to come. Early reports indicate that after Gus Poyet turned us down (bitterly disappointed about that, really thought he would be the man to save us), we now face the increasingly likely scenerio that Nigel Adkins will be installed as our new manager, Southampton's sloppy seconds and a man that, and please tell me if I am wrong fellow Royals, that none of us a) want, b) like or c) think is going to bring any benefit to us or anything his predecessor wouldn't have all ready.

It's enough to make me weep. Sigh. Lets just hope that Anton Zingarevich is as brutal as his Russian counterpart at Stamford Bridge and disposes of him with due haste.

Adam, Reading. (First time Mailboxer, feels good to pop that cherry)

Apparently we spent "close to £40 million" last summer, according to the SSN muppet dominating that press conference. At this rate it will be said to have been £100 million in a year or so.

To be fair, they talked about us and West Ham and ours total spending together, compared to Reading that also was promoted...

What?

Where have you been the last two months?

Unless you are regarding QPR as the best of course...

Feels weird looking at him in that picture in front of the Reading badge, and hearing him talk about Reading and not us in a press conference. I hope he gets a cracking reception from us. None of this 'let's concentrate on the game' b*llocks. Letting Adkins know what we think of him isn't going to affect our players at all.

Would rather it after the game.

As much as NA will have a point to prove in the game against us, MP will be in exactly in the same boat. Losing the game will be very embarrassing for him given the circumstanes that he was appointed in and the players will be well aware of that.

Besides, winning the game will be all the players care about - it'll be nice to see Nige in the bar after the game and all that, but staying in the Prem and earning Prem wages will be far more of a concern.

I'd have no problem singing his name at the Madjeski just before kick off, but once that is done it's all Southampton...

Good luck Nigel but I fear for your choice of new job....

Reading are full of championship players and you will not have the budget or backup you had at Saints. Saints are a big club compared to Reading - the expectation of the players will be lower, the club is living a dream outside of its real position in football. Nigel will have nightmares there and be disatisfied compared to managing at St Mary's.

His body lanquage was in my opinion telling us he is still a Saint at heart. I think this is marriage of convenience rather than a real love affair......

Time will tell but Nigel - have you done the right thing?

A team such as Leeds or Forest would have suited him better - bigger clubs and further away so that he would not be living our shadow....

I agree that a move to a bigger club like those or another would have been a much better suit for him, but a major part of him taking the Reading job is not having to relocate his family. He still lives just outside Winchester and has quite a young family I think.

It breaks my heart seeing him at Reading and I hate to think that he's managing another team now. Still, we have to move on.

I think (don't quote me) that they asked Adkins first and he said no, then went for Poyet, have now returned to Adkins, and bribed him with a million and a half pay off if he keeps them up. As I said, rumour only, not known as a 'fact'.

I would just like to give Adkins all of my best wishes. He gave me probably not far off my best 3 years as a saints supporter. Think he is a great guy and Reading are very lucky to have him. Never had any feelings for Reading [although they got on my nerves a bit last season] but I will now be looking at Reading results with great interest while he is involved. I would love now to see Reading stay up as long as it is not at our expense. 100% want us to win when we play them the game after next but that said, if he won every other game I for one would not begrudge him that.

Posted

It would be nice to think that NA might keep them up, if for no other reason than we'd have no local game to go to if they go down - (now that Pomp*y are out of the picture).

IF.... he can save Reading then he will have done a fantastic job....almost on a par with getting us promoted. I do wish him luck, but not at our expense.

I always knew Reading away would be very difficult game no matter what the circumstances of both teams were on the day. Now I think its obvious we will lose this game. They have alot of things on their side. They have the New manager syndrome effect. Its a Sky TV match and we know recent history hasn't not been kind to us in front of their cameras. Also the worlds media will be there willing Reading to win, hoping karma has come to bite Cortese on the ass! The press will love it and call it justice! I'd love to be wrong though.

As a Cortese supporter I think he has unknowingly set himself up for a big fall potentially.

If Adkins keeps Reading up and we go down it will be nothing short of an embarrassment. Will it happen? No I don't think it will but if it did the repercussions would be significant.

I also wouldn't mind betting if Reading are 3-0 up in the 87th minute on the 6th April, the "there's only one Nigel Adkins" chants will be coming from both sets of supporters.

What about the worlds media wanting karma to come and bite the ass of another axe wielding Russian chairman with no compassion for getting rid of BM?

It's gonna be an interesting game. Still fancy a result. Afterall they are 19th for a reason and player for player I don't think a single one of theirs would get in our starting 11.

Isn't the Chypriot banking crisis doing that ?

If Saints fans did that I'd be rather embarrassed. Pochettino is the manager, end of story.

I also hate i was too late getting a ticket for the game.

Considering hospitality for a few of us and an escape route out after we go mental when we win guess ill be sat amongst Reading fans

You just know that we will go 1-0 up then Reading will win 2-1, with the winning goal coming from an Adkins substitution. He'll be hailed a tactical genius and this forum will go into meltdown.

Anyone else feel sorry for him?.....ok I'm glad he's got another job but he's got very little chance of keeping them up and if he doesn't then those fans that are unhappy with his appointment will soon be on his back.

Perhaps he would have been better off taking over a half decent championship side with a bit of ambition,I just think the Reading job will be a downward spiral for him.

Good luck to him but I hope we demolish them when we play them and I really hope they get relegated.

My companies HQ is in Reading and everyone i know there who claims to be a Reading and someone else fan is delighted with the appointment and fully expect to go down anyway. No one i've spoken to about it expects him to keep them up. That is the real world though, i doubt their mongboard will be happy.

Too true,I fully expect their tinternet based fans to give him a rough ride, especially if we beat them but on the flip side ours will explode if they turn us over.

Like dumping an girlfriend and then seeing her with your best mate. Want him back now!

Seriously though good luck to him. Hope they stay up, but a long way behind us.
