itchen_dan Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Set to be named very soon according to multiple places. A 5live journo said 5pm announcement, SSN saying Adkins will be new boss. Although other journos are saying dont be so sure about it so who knows? Personally, i think its a done deal.
saint lard Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 I hope Adkins becomes Readings' new manager...he could get them up....if he inherits a really good squad, like ours....otherwise? Very mediocre. Mind you,he almost ballsed it up with us....reading,West Ham,if I recall. Scraped over the line with an exceptional squad. Poor manager.
Saints foreva Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 April 6th will be interesting then! Hope our fans ignore him until the final whistle.
SuperMikey Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Bit insulting to offer NA the job after getting turned down by GP, no? Especially considering their records last season Quick question - why is nobody going for Owen Coyle for these jobs? Wolves, Blackburn, Reading, Forest...he would have been good for all of those clubs!
Saint Garrett Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Hope our fans ignore him until the final whistle. I hope we sing his name once or twice before the game, thank him, then get on with supporting the team. Maybe start singing his name as well once we're 4-0 up....
Saint Charlie Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Shame for us if he goes there. Want to wish him success because he was so good for us but I hate Reading.
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Sky Sources say he will be named manager this evening, although it is not done yet. I'm happy for him, he deserves another job.
saint lard Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 He's bloody awful. full of cliches, lacking in tactical nous. good luck NA. more "luck than judgment" should be his new sound bite. 'get on the bus'..my arse.
Turkish Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 My sources told me last night it could be completed as early as today. Turkish appears to be ITK again.
Saint Charlie Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Turkish appears to be ITK again. Better than Simon Peach's thats for sure.
Saint J 77 Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 He should have waited and took over at the end of the season.
Turkish Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 He should have waited and took over at the end of the season. I disagree. It makes perfect sense of him to take over now, if he works a miracle and keeps them up then he'll be a hero. If as expected they go down then he's lost nothing as they all expect to go down but he will have has the chance to assess his squad, work with them and see them in action and get to know them ahead of a promotion push next season.
pap Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Blimey. Looks like Adkins has the Reading job. This spices things up somewhat. I am sure NA will feel he has something to prove. The media will be all over our clash now.
Mr X Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 He's bloody awful. full of cliches, lacking in tactical nous. good luck NA. more "luck than judgment" should be his new sound bite. 'get on the bus'..my arse. you seriously think two successive promotions was just a bit of luck? Or are you just being a wum?
View From The Top Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 you seriously think two successive promotions was just a bit of luck? Or are you just being a wum? Lard @rse hated him from the moment he was appointed. Threw his toys out when he was ripped to shreds far stating how Adkins had lost the dressing room in L1.
pap Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Lard @rse hated him from the moment he was appointed. Threw his toys out when he was ripped to shreds far stating how Adkins had lost the dressing room in L1. And yet he may still be proven right. The interesting thing about him taking the Reading job is that superficially at least, Southampton and Reading are similar. Hell, Reading even beat us to the punch last year - so at that point, they were officially better than we were. Were they though? All these questions and more will be answered to some degree by NA's appointment as Reading Manager.
Saint Charlie Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 He was clearly good. As I posted on another thread someone who clearly would know (is on the training ground everyday) said that the players liked NA, he was good, popular on the training ground, good sessions, impressive man. Since MP came in however the players and staff have seen he is just better, allround better in each aspect. No shame for NA in that. As an aside the person said a lot of mentality work is done now, be brave to play, manage games better tactically etc.
Mr X Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Lard @rse hated him from the moment he was appointed. Threw his toys out when he was ripped to shreds far stating how Adkins had lost the dressing room in L1. I wasn't Adkins biggest fan at first, I think he made mistakes particularly with substitutes and the whole goal keeper situation and the lamest physcobabble interviews ever but he slowly began to win me over with his enthusiasm and work ethic results were improving too. To say he is bloody useless is ridiculous
saint lard Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 I was never ripped to shreds. what people don't understand was the players did not know,at times, how to formulate what Adkins tried to put into practice. i had this from various sources, including professional football players that mixed with saints players and the hierarchy at SFC. why do you think his sacking was out of the blue.....to so many.but to some inevietable. and it was not just from saints players. There was a different side to 'good ol Nigel'.....and that's why he went.

pap Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 name your "various sources" or it's Just heresay Have you got any evidence to suggest that NA was a clear and competent communicator?
Andre Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 We're going to lose, definitely. God I miss him, and when we play them I will be so happy to see him again.
Katalinic Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Sensible appointment for them with one eye on a promotion challenge next season no doubt.
Mr X Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Have you got any evidence to suggest that NA was a clear and competent communicator? No but then I'm not claiming to, clearly
pap Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 No but then I'm not claiming to, clearly Dude, we've got three years of Southampton interviews alone to pick from. Surely you've got some evidence?
Mr X Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Dude, we've got three years of Southampton interviews alone to pick from. Surely you've got some evidence? What has this got to do with st lard saying he's heard from "various sources" that the players didn't know how to put Adkins coaching in to practice? We all know he kept shum in interviews
Matthew Le God Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 They can't work out percentages ffs! Winning 67 out of 124 games is not 46% it is 54%.
Tom8558 Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 They can't work out percentages ffs! Winning 67 out of 124 games is not 46% it is 54%. I'm doing my stats homework at the moment. Want me to work out the standard deviation of points that McDermott and Adkins have earned and find the most consistent?
max_saints Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 they don't seem too happy with the appointment over at hob nob.. even have their first 'Adkins out' thread already lol
Colinjb Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 they don't seem too happy with the appointment over at hob nob.. even have their first 'Adkins out' thread already lol Idiots. But then, we already knew that.
supersonic Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 TBH I think he'll struggle there. He'll do fantastically to keep them up, and they won't get promoted next year
Saint Charlie Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 TBH I think he'll struggle there. He'll do fantastically to keep them up, and they won't get promoted next year Hard to say but they don't have the raw materials we did.
Olallana Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 they don't seem too happy with the appointment over at hob nob.. even have their first 'Adkins out' thread already lol When do you think the first MP Out thread was on this board?
Colinjb Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 When do you think the first MP Out thread was on this board? On the face of it though ours was driven more by ignorance and shock rather then vindictiveness.
eelpie Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 "There's only one Nigel Adkins - but Pochettino's our manager now!"
supersonic Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Hard to say but they don't have the raw materials we did. well he'll be under an awful lot of pressure next year if they go down. And he's shown he doesn't function that well under pressure
Graffito Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 If he wins one match you just know which one it will be.
pap Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 What has this got to do with st lard saying he's heard from "various sources" that the players didn't know how to put Adkins coaching in to practice? We all know he kept shum in interviews I've read all saint lard has to say on the matter in this thread, and he makes more points than that. Whatever, even on that one point, NA's communications are relevant. It's about getting your message across, isn't it? As I said before, there's three years of media you can pore over on YouTube or whatever. I really don't buy the "NA was a genius using cliches to hide his gameplan" school of thought, if that's what you're getting at by "we all know he kept shum in interviews" statement. Yes, we do. The question is why. Fortunately, the answers will shortly be arriving in the form of Premier League football.
SaintRobbie Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 They can't work out percentages ffs! Winning 67 out of 124 games is not 46% it is 54%. Perhaps Nigel can wear a Brian McDermott mask to help him fit in?
Minsk Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 they don't seem too happy with the appointment over at hob nob.. even have their first 'Adkins out' thread already lol Let me guess, started by a poster calling himself Royal Lard?
Minsk Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Have you got any evidence to suggest that NA was a clear and competent communicator? Yes, 2 promotions and 15th place in the PL.
scotty Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Let me guess, started by a poster calling himself Royal Lard? laughing out lard
ART Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 http://www.sportinglife.com/football/video/24811/8597950/adkins-joins-reading Interesting to hear what Nigel's been doing of late.
pap Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Yes, 2 promotions and 15th place in the PL. That is fair enough, but as many have pointed out time and time again, we did have a lot of resources. This is one of those "time will tell" situations.
sotonjoe Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Good luck to Atkins. At least he's guaranteed three points against Saints.
