KelvinsRightGlove Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 I'm glad we're all on the bus together as one, controlling the controllables. We have to make sure we control the football (chat)
Lets B Avenue Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 It's funny how everyone on here suddenly loves him. Prior to his sacking there was barely a day that didn't see threads questioning his 'pulling power', tactics, selections, substitutions, press-conferences and ability. The usually loud voices that often distort opinion around here were calling for his head. I certainly took a lot of abuse in staunchly standing by him. Odd how things switch, still love the bloke, and will never forget what he did, or the shoddy way the replacement took place, but it did. Time to look forwards now. We have Poch, and Adkins will most likely get another job, and probably play against us, and probably win, the git. Wish him all the best. Shades of this?
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 Shades of this? Haha yeah, something like that. Off topic, I still always find it odd when Rowan Atkinson talks.
Turkish Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 (edited) Adkins is still employed and being paid but on gardening leave. His contract is being honoured. The LMA tribunal is to try and reach a severance settlement. If he goes to Reading now he could be tearing up his contract. Saints will want Reading to pay any settlement. http://www.sportsdirectnews.com/premier-league/19350-adkins-free-to-talk-to-reading.php#.UUiuJhEgGSM http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2292403/Nigel-Adkins-set-tribunal-failing-agree-compensation-deal-Southampton.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton/9925732/Nigel-Adkins-takes-Southampton-to-tribunal-in-bid-to-resolve-feud-with-Nicola-Cortese.html It's no surprise that you are wrong. Its got f*ck all to do with Cortese now, he can take another job now hes stared proceedings after we dicked him about. thought anymore about a front sweeper recently? Edited 19 March, 2013 by Turkish
melmacian_saint Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 If unlike over here he is allowed to play around freely with the same 66m quid that propelled us from the shadows of L1 to the Prem at his new job and improves his performance of the 2nd part of last season and his tenure during this one with Saints, then we may have let go a manager with bags of quality. Until then, no evidence can be presented that Adkins is better than, for a start, Pochettino, and after that, McDermott or Warnock themselves.

Tokyo-Saint Posted 19 March, 2013 Posted 19 March, 2013 Not sure. A little sceptical of the merits of consensus over conflict. A great deal of progress has emerged from conflict after all. As for the blue line comment, I'm assuming that's an attempt to question my footballing loyalties? An opinion that runs against the prevailing wind doesn't immediately make one a Portsmouth fan, although I appreciate it can be a temptingly easy comfort blanket to draw upon! Lolz - who's this guy? I like him. It's like he hates the way Adkins talks but has never heard him talk - genius!
Appy Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Odds mean very little, but Gus Poyet is now 6/5 favourite.
100%Red&White Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Odds mean very little, but Gus Poyet is now 6/5 favourite. It's obviously the Chelsea connection as half Reading's home crowd are fans of.
stevegrant Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Reading have made an official approach for Poyet. Not guaranteed he'd accept the job if offered, though, probably a better chance of being a Premier League manager next season by staying where he is
Crazy Diamond Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 F*ck me they're doing their best to be unpopular with us aren't they? To put a twist on Nigel's infamous question, can he keep them up? Answer, probably not.
Micky Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Poyet would be a mug to take that job. He'd be a much bigger mug not to be linked with it and not to be interviewed for it though.....
Crazy Diamond Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Poyet would be a mug to take that job. He's a mug anyway?
SuperSAINT Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Simon Peach @SimonPeach Source close to Gus Poyet says he has held talks with #ReadingFC but nowhere near being a done deal. Story on PA wire from @mrwayneg & I.
buctootim Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Cant see why Poyet would go to Reading. Brighton have got a bigger ground, better attendance in the CC than Reading have in PL and a sane owner. Plus its a nicer place to live.
alehouseboys Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 The Reading/Poyet link does seem a strange one...but...if he did jump ship that would leave a fairly attractive post available at the Amex. And then if NA fancied a pop at that it could cause a bit of a rumpus amongst the seagulls, they f**kin despised Adkins during our little spats with 'em in L1 and the Champ.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Talksport reporting Adkins was interviewed today.
Bearsy Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 never in doubt. Soon as i read that turkish had got nod from his inside sources i took my little all down william hill & lumped on.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Did you remember to spell his name right? They don't pay out if you get the spelling wrong bear. Those fecker didn't pay me when I spelt Atkins, straken when he took over us. So fecking pedantic these bookies sometimes bear!
raynesparksaint Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Lolz - who's this guy? I like him. It's like he hates the way Adkins talks but has never heard him talk - genius! Calling him a skate is well out of order!
bender Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Whats to say we cant beat Reading when he's in charge. Dont forget when he first came to us the results took a few weeks to come, we could just see they would come. They're looking to him to get them back up next season. He's not one to get instant results. More of a long term option. Reading v Saints in a few weeks will give us the chance we were never given to thank him. The result is a separate issue.
monosaint Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Saw Nigel Adkins on the train to Waterloo yesterday with his wife. Obviously on a day out.. He looked very relaxed and happy. I wish him well,

ericofarabia Posted 20 March, 2013 Posted 20 March, 2013 Saw Nigel Adkins on the train to Waterloo yesterday with his wife. Obviously on a day out.. He looked very relaxed and happy. I wish him well, As if confirmation was needed - he's not on the bus anymore!!

angelman Posted 21 March, 2013 Posted 21 March, 2013 Adkins has hair though ?? Maybe he should go for the Blackburn job then. Kean Berg Appleton Think that is what the Venky's problem has been. Hair, or the lack of.
Bucks Saint Posted 21 March, 2013 Posted 21 March, 2013 But that makes little sense as McDermott got them up better than Adkins did. Football club in crazy decision shocker
trousers Posted 21 March, 2013 Posted 21 March, 2013 @NabilHassan79: My colleagues in Sussex are reporting Gus Poyet has turned down #readingfc and is staying at Brighton. Over to you Nigel Adkins?
itchen_dan Posted 21 March, 2013 Posted 21 March, 2013 alex_crook: #readingfc will now offer Adkins the job but no guarantees he will take it with #lufc also sniffing around him
Saint Charlie Posted 21 March, 2013 Posted 21 March, 2013 Local Reading reporter says Adkins had discussions this week but is also out the frame. What a shambles. Like Wolves last year.
RonManager Posted 21 March, 2013 Posted 21 March, 2013 Local Reading reporter says Adkins had discussions this week but is also out the frame. What a shambles. Like Wolves last year. There's only one thing for it then - send for AppletonMan!
alpine_saint Posted 22 March, 2013 Posted 22 March, 2013 DM saying this morning that Poyet has turned Reading down to see his project to get Brighton into the PL through to its conclusion. I know we dont like him, but respect to him for his loyalty and integrity. Also saying that NA doesnt seem to enthusiastic about the job. Wherever he ends up, I hope he will be successful and happy.

Wherever he ends up, I hope he will be successful and happy. lets be honest here, if it was a club with better prospects than reading to stay up then his loyalty / integrity would have been a little more sharply tested dont u think. brighton are better shot for prem footy than reading next season. should they fail to go up this year then a few slightly better prospects than reading will appear on the horizon for poyet in the summer for poyet.
KK the 2nd Posted 22 March, 2013 Posted 22 March, 2013 NA back as odds on with Skybet for the Reading job (9/4 for Leeds) but I really think no one knows.
derry Posted 22 March, 2013 Posted 22 March, 2013 Nigel Adkins situation is rather complicated. The LMA have a current statement regarding the use of gardening leave ie suspension, where the individual continues to be paid provided he doesn't breach his contract in any way, such as make a statement or take another job allowing the club to terminate the breached contract without compensation. After requesting arbitration and each side appointing an arbitrator, a minimum of 42 days is allowed to reach a settlement. If no settlement is reached a hearing is convened with an appointed Chairman who has the power to finalise any settlement. The chairman has to take into account the actions/co-operation of the parties in trying to reach agreement. He has the power to terminate a contract and impose a settlement. Up to that time both sides would have to comply with the contract. If Adkins now breaches his contract and goes to Reading SFC can terminate it without compensation. If they agree a settlement to allow him to go to Reading they would be entitled to be repaid compensation. That isn't going to happen. If Adkins goes to Reading he will effectively end any arbitration, as he has been paid up until walking out on his contract.
Window Cleaner Posted 22 March, 2013 Posted 22 March, 2013 NA back as odds on with Skybet for the Reading job (9/4 for Leeds) but I really think no one knows. Never mind the bookies will make money out of it anyway.
Restark19 Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 William Hill have suspended betting on NA to become next reading manager
Restark19 Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 He isn't going to be the Reading Manager. Thanks Nigel, how've you been since leaving Saints?..
Saint Charlie Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Thanks Nigel, how've you been since leaving Saints?.. Fine thanks. By the way - I might actually be the next Reading Manager....
Bucks Saint Posted 25 March, 2013 Posted 25 March, 2013 Paul Sturrock. You heard it here first. Just thrashing out a deal to allow him to be at Wembley with his old crew
