Looks like Adkins may be in charge of Reading by the time we get there

My sources told me last night it could be completed as early as today.

Did your sources actually buy any paper this time or where they just pr!ck teasing you for the free beers and volovants again?

Crepes actually.

Dont think he's been brought in to save them, they aren't expecting him to. More to give him time to get to know the players and ones he wants to keep or move on and also to indetify new targets to hit the ground running in preseason to bring them back up next season. Seems fair enough.

Totally agree with this. I'm struggling to see the logic behind sticking with McDermott until the end of the season, having players really low on confidence etc. It's been obvious for a fair while they're going to finish bottom and why not give a new manager a few prem games to get to know his new squad before getting going with a holiday then a pre season? I'd imagine they'll be in a good place to go up next season.

I should think there will be a little matter of compensation required by SFC to release him as they will have to pay a considerable sum to NA to pay up his contract. There may well be obstacles there. If I was NC, if NA takes another job, I wouldn't feel obliged to pay up the contract he has broken prior to arbitration, which in the circumstances would have been short circuited.

Even my son (who is not particularly good) scored a 25-yard screamer against his old team when he had to change because his old trainer was being a tw*t and the change of registration came through only a couple of days before the game.

If Adkins is in charge for the first time when we play Reading we will lose. We can only hope he is in charge for their game against Arsenal and they get such a butt-f**king that the euphoria has worn off.

Or lets hope NC has some sort of leverage to hold this off until after our game.

Appleton sacked by Blackburn. Maybe they'll go for him instead.

OMG! for real  what a joke

five managers in a season??? Kean > Black > Berg > Bowyer > Appleton

I'd be surprised if cortese let this happen.....the last thing he would want is for Adkins to be in charge of a premiership rival just before we play them, possibly biting us in the arse.

It's got nothing to do with Cortese, why do you think it has? He sacked Adkins and as Adkins is now taking us to a tribural he can work again.

Great appointment for Reading if so - all I hear on places like TalkSport is fans of nPC sides saying "If we sack our manager, I hope we go for Adkins" so his reputation goes before him.

Not such a great choice for Adkins if it happens, he'll have a Premier League relegation on his CV despite not being the one that caused it, and though Reading have a bit of money behind them now, I can't see them bouncing straight back up if they go down.

Still whatever happens, fair play to them and him, and best of luck, except, of course, against us!

Haha! Brilliant drama at Ewood Park. To be fair, that's the best decision they've made all season, but it does counteract the stupid one they made when they appointed him. Perhaps now clubs will see him for the defensive, long merchant he is. Plus he looks like Chuck Rock. Blackpool had a lucky escape.

Strange, I always thought Readings russian boy wanted a "big" name. And I dont categorize Adkins in that way, even though successful.

I think he wanted Di Canio but found out that their fans turned against that in a big way and therefor they have to look at other names now....

Opens up a dilemma imho - if he did go to Reading who would you want to win on 6th April?

Depends whether you´re a Saints fan or an Adkins fan....

For most of us, probably the easiest question this century.

Or have an irrational dislike of MP.

Perhaps, as a compromise, GS would be satisfied with a spelling bee contest between MP and NA. See nige iron out the benighted, blue-tied argie.

Cannot believe that they would sack McDermott for Adkins, imagine if it was the other way round. Both done great jobs but maybe found a bit wanting at this level, seems strange. Don't think there was anyone better qualified than McDermott to take Reading back up next year, except Adkins maybe? BUt then what are they going to do?

I can't beleive there are people who think Adkins has been "maybe found a bit wanting at this level", he was perfectly up to the job, just as Pochettino has been.

I'd have gone nuts if we'd appointed McDermott though, anyone thinking Alex Pearce had a chance of playing in the Prem wants sectioning, and he doesn't strike me as the greatest motivator. Obviously they went on a run last season, but then Roy Keane's Sunderland did similar and it wasn't his managerial ability that did it.

Not just MP though, it seems to be anyone who has the temerity to not be British...

Personally I think he should hold out for the first round of sackings of the new season - could get himself a prem club, with at least a better chance of staying up than Reading currently have.

Posted

I don't think he would get a prem job as his stock isn't quite high enough. We know him and respect him so our opinion of his management is a little higher than your general outsider. His best bet is to pick a club that he can take up and to get another promotion on his CV. Reading have a fairly decent squad and some parachute payments to come. If they do go down, they would be one of the favourites to come back up.

He did a good job, yes; but we should have won the league. We limped across the line in the end.

Blimey thats a bit harsh isnt it considering where we were for the vast majority of the season and finsished witha flourish against Coventry?

I believe his family are now based near to Chandlers Ford or Otterbourne. Certainly, he is seen in the Chandlers Ford ASDA and some of the restaurants in Otterbourne reasonably frequently, and that was both before and after his sacking.

For the avoidance of doubt - Compton. Often seeing him on a walk.

I am flattered by the attention you give me I really am  but the rest of the lads will get jealous so you really must let this obsession with me pass.

Just took a look at your recent post history and of your last 50 posts 44 (88%!!) have been in response to me or about me. Its weird

Yeah, that seems very high I agree. It's not an obsession, it's just that I think you're a ****ing pr!ck that spends their time on here posting utter cr@p to get responses. Frankly, it's one of those situations where I have pretty much quit this forum due to you (you'll see my post count has reduced dramatically). It's a shame, but you, your abhorrent attitude towards our players and manager and the fact that the Mods have completely lost their balls in dealing with WUM's like you has started the beginning of the end for this forum. We all pay £5 per year to have our experiences on this forum spoilt by utter c unts like you.

Unfortunately the 'Ignore' function isn't good enough, as it still shows that you are posting and as such, taking away much needed food, water and air from those in the world that deserve it more.

All IMHO of course.

Edit: Just checked those numbers and 18 on the first page of that weren't about or in response to you, so wtf you are talking about I don't know.

You can add liar to the above.

I really, really, REALLY hope he doesn't take the Reading job. He can do so much better. People may say he's been found wanting at this level, but he only had 1/2 a season in the Prem with a newly promoted club with barely any Prem experience in the squad. I'm not saying that justifies some very poor results under him (and some very good ones), but I have no doubt that he'll become a good Prem manager in the future. I don't want that to be with Reading though.

Reading are a Premier League team in terms of where they are now, but in terms of squad, fanbase, facilities, reputation etc they are firmly Championship. If I were Nigel I would wait for Leeds - a team who are Premier League at every level except squad. Would be a good project to rebuild them, get them back up into the Premier League and keep them there. I would like to see him be successful, but not at Reading, being the sh!t tinpot club that they are.

I agree SuperMikey a better job could be just round the corner, but I get the feeling NA is already classified as a Championship manager - similar to Billy Davies, Warnock, McCarthy and O'Driscoll

'There's only one Nigel Adkins

But Pochettino's our manager now'

Chant if NA is in charge of Reading when we play them

Think he might get one or two songs from Saints fans if he was in charge of Reading - doubt you'd find many Saints fans with a bad word about him.

It's funny how everyone on here suddenly loves him.

Prior to his sacking there was barely a day that didn't see threads questioning his 'pulling power', tactics, selections, substitutions, press-conferences and ability.

The usually loud voices that often distort opinion around here were calling for his head. I certainly took a lot of abuse in staunchly standing by him.

Odd how things switch, still love the bloke, and will never forget what he did, or the shoddy way the replacement took place, but it did. Time to look forwards now. We have Poch, and Adkins will most likely get another job, and probably play against us, and probably win, the git.

Wish him all the best.

I thought he was supposed to be "favourite" to take over at Leicester. Don't much care myself where he ends up although it would be quite interesting to see his managerial skills without a "ready to roll" setup.

Yeh, would love to see how he gets on taking a club from the relegation zone of League 1 to the Premier League in 2 seasons.

Adkins is still employed and being paid but on gardening leave. His contract is being honoured. The LMA tribunal is to try and reach a severance settlement. If he goes to Reading now he could be tearing up his contract. Saints will want Reading to pay any settlement.

did a pretty decent job at S3unthorpe? Plus following his impressive return at Saints he shouldnt need to take such a job again (for a while)

yep, not taking away too much from what he did, but he did get plenty of financial support and should have won at least 1 title for us. He still did well and respect that.

I agree, the Championship title was ours to lose, although Reading's run at the end of the season was very impressive.

Time to move on and not really bothered where he goes. Obviously grateful for the promotions, but found the bloke a little irritating to be honest. A question of taste, but the relentless positivity was vomit inducing and the post match interviews were retarded even for football standards. Much better at the moment when I don't have a clue what he's saying, because it's going to be complete ****** anyway.

You are right, it is time for us to all pull together as one. A house divideded cannot stand. Let's draw a blue line under things and move on.

Not sure. A little sceptical of the merits of consensus over conflict. A great deal of progress has emerged from conflict after all. As for the blue line comment, I'm assuming that's an attempt to question my footballing loyalties? An opinion that runs against the prevailing wind doesn't immediately make one a Portsmouth fan, although I appreciate it can be a temptingly easy comfort blanket to draw upon!

I think it's more just he is talking in Adkins-isms.

Draw a blue line under it, being one of his favourites. To move on, as it were.
