SuperMikey Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 Always good to get a few bargains in, who would you take from these? Obviously most of them will sign new deals with their clubs between now and June, but still... http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/spieler/vertragsende/basics_GB1.html You can make a decent Starting XI from that! ---------------------BORUC---------------------- SIMPSON---HANGELAND---FERDINAND---FIGUEROA --------------LAMPARD---DIARRA---------------- ARSHAVIN---------------------------------BRUNT -------------DI SANTO---PETRIC-----------------
S-Clarke Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 I would sign Figueroa as another option at LB, for sure. Wouldn't say no to Simpson and Hangeland either, as that would add real quality and competition across the back 4. Brunt will sign at WBA, but I think he'd be great here. A really good footballer. Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 Agree about Figueroa, I've heard he gets good assists for goals - especially with his hands. I also like Di Santo even though he doesn't score much and is a tad inconsistent. Boruc is the main one that we need to get done soon.
Mr Saints Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 Di Santo would fit into our system pretty well. He was excellent at St Mary's plus there's the Argie connection with Poch.
JoeShmoe Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 Hangeland would be great but he's angling for (and deserves) a move to a Top 4 club. Dependent on who goes down i'd look to raid, Hoillett at QPR for example
Restark19 Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 Funnily enough if I could only have one off that list it'd be Boruc

Matthew Le God Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 I would take DiSanto in a heart beat. Let Mayuka, Guly & DeRidder leave. Have you really seen enough of Mayuka to write him off? He is 22 years old, has hardly played and his performance vs. Spurs in particular showed he could be useful in years to come.

Turkish Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 Di Santos and Hageland would be class, as well as signing up Boruc on a long term deal.
Matthew Le God Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 (edited) Why do you think it is that under two managers he hasn't been able to get where near the team most weeks? Because the managers can only pick 11 players for the starting XI, one to three players in Mayuka's positions of winger/striker in our 4-2-3-1 system and only 18 players in a matchday squad. Some players will inevitably miss out in both starting in the XI and the match-day 18. To write a 22 year old international like Mayuka off already is daft, especially as in the very brief glimpses we have seen he has shown some good qualities. Maybe he will end up being a "dud signing", but given his lack of minutes I fail to see how any Saints fan can jump to that conclusion yet and justify it. skintsaint Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 few decent options in Serie A expiring if we are looking over there regularly now.
Doctoroncall Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 Mucha is playing well, obviously wanting to earn a new contract at Everton. Wasn't Shotton a hot prospect a season or two ago? Agree on Boruc, Di santos and Hageland, small impact on transfer fees although wages maybe high.

I didn't ask how mnay players the manager can pick. I asked why do you think if he's as great as you are making out he hasn't had a kick in Saints shirt since October. He didn't even get on pitch when Adkins was throwing on fringe players in the cup games against Chelsea. Why haven't two managers see fit to play him when he's shown the qualities you are claiming? Turkish Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 (edited) Chris Brunt is also a decent player. Would certainly be decent in a 'one for the squad'' type role on a free. But ss he's WBA captain I'd imagine they'll want to keep him. Edited 18 March, 2013 by Turkish

Lets B Avenue Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 He didn't even get on pitch when Adkins was throwing on fringe players in the cup games against Chelsea. Wasnt he away with Zambia at the African Do-Dah? Agree it is strange though, especially when De Ridder made it off the bench a couple of times. I'm not disagreeing, he looked good against Villa and Spurs, rubbish against Sunderland though. As two managers have seen fit to play him at best sporadically, in fqct he hasnt had a kick under Pochettino then you have to wonder why that is. That's all I'm asking for MLG, why do you think that is? And don't say because the manager can only pick 11 players.

Agree it is strange though, especially when De Ridder made it off the bench a couple of times. No, he was an unused sub against Chelsea. De Ridder and Lee came on and were both soon loaned out, it's weird, you'd have thought that would have been the game to play him in. MLG thinks I'm having a pop at him when I'm not as it agree in the Spurs and Villa games he looked good.
Lets B Avenue Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 and he hardly ever plays in the U21 side.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 Yep, good point. Regaurdless of how well he played against spurs 6 months ago, he is still not getting near the team. If he was (as Forren is), he would be playing for the under 21s.

SuperMikey Posted 18 March, 2013 Author Share Posted 18 March, 2013 Looking through the other leagues, there are some great young players who will be available. Vincent Aboubakar - Not a great goal record (16 in 74) but a young player who's done well for Cameroon and is highly rated. Quick as **** off a shovel too. Konstantin Rausch - Left-sided player who's tipped to break into the Germany squad, although Russia want him too. Plays in defence or on the wing, very industrious. Vladimir Weiss - You'll know him from Man City, captain of Slovakia. Plays on the right or through the middle, like Puncheon but more technically capable. Emmanuel Badu - Holding midfielder, been compared to Essien in the past. Capped 40 times for Ghana already at the age of 22. Douglas - Big centre back playing for FC Twente. In and around the Dutch national team and could be set for big things. If we could get any of them I would be very happy.
