Southampton track Walsall's Will Grigg - Mirror

Caught a glimpse of him when Walsall played the skates on TV earlier in the season. Looked a handy player, but whether he is up to PL standard is an entirely different matter.

Yeah, agree with that. Looks promising.

I was also impressed with Karl Darlow, the keeper from Forest they had on loan there. My dad pointed him out at first, and I have to say, within 15 minutes I found myself agreeing with him.

lets be honest saints will be planning for every eventuality if they are smart. so clearly we will be looking at players for the prem but also we need to be prepared should the worst happen and we get relegated.

it would be a disaster if we got relegated come may but even worse if we lost our key players and stood there with no ******* clue who could replace them. for me this is one of the key reaons why some clubs get relegated and then carry on struggling the following season.

I don't think there's much wrong on looking at decent young L1/L2 players, just as likely to see one of them succeed and make the step up as you are some unknown foreigner. Besides every LB in British football would be ablle to compete with Fox

Disgraceful article full of lies and assumptions. No direct quotes from anyone connected with SFC. I see they have got their mind reading hat on assuming who we are watching, how do they know? We could have been watching any of the players out there.

2 years ago, if a story like this had come out about a PL club watching Morgan or Rickie or Jose, I reckon there would've been a similar reaction by that clubs fans on their forum. Scouts and managers can see potential in players, and players will rarely realise their FULL potential in a lower league. We should've learnt that ourselves early this season - players do take time to adjust to the Premier League - they have to sharpen up, take less touches, be more aware of what's around them sooner - but it's difficult to do that until you're playing in the PL week in, week out, or training with players who are. We have improved a lot as this season has gone on, including players who were with us in League 1, so why couldn't someone like this make the step up?

So, I would never write off any link like this... I have never seen the player, as far as I recall, but I don't think we should slip into the same elitist mindset that some other clubs get into, that we should only be looking to sign players from Europe's top leagues. We undoubtedly WILL sign players from those places, but perhaps more than most, we should recognise the potential value of the lower leagues too.

Lower league player declining to sign new contract as he thinks he's capable of better, and he might be for all we know, so the Red Top Press link him with any cheapskate Prem Clubs they can think of. You don't see the Mirror linking players like this to any top 6 club. Its an insult by The Mirror to take Southampton's name in vain. My guess is that the best Grigg can hope for this summer is a Championship club.
