angelman Posted 17 March, 2013 Share Posted 17 March, 2013 Unless you know him or have dealt with him, which I haven't, I am not sure that you can reach any conclusion. Maybe you are basing this on the Benali/MLT saga. Maybe it is the sacking of NA and AP. Maybe it is the way that he deals with the press. Or maybe something else. People might like him of loathe him, but AFAIK he has only ever done things that he sees are best for the club. Until anything comes out to suggest that that has changesd, and even though I was sad about the sacking of NA, I am going to reserve judgement. Deano6 Posted 17 March, 2013 Share Posted 17 March, 2013 Yes, I'm sure there's not one person in Hampshire would welcome the chance to sit next to the chairman of the local Premiership football team, business associates or otherwise. It must be that he can't find anyone to accept his invitations every week.

Despite all the people that state he's on a massive power trip, he's actually pretty quiet, so maybe he just likes to keep himself to himself? I remember when I was at the meal thing I went to with him, him telling us that he usually waits until the game has kicked off before going to his seat, as he doesn't want people watching him and he knows by then people will be focusing on the game. If he was surrounding himself with loads of people, you'd probably get people accusing him of trying to be a flash billy big ******, so long as he's working hard to continue the development of sfc that's okey with me. pap Posted 17 March, 2013 Share Posted 17 March, 2013 It's all explained in Star Wars. Cortese is like the Sith Lord. Darth Pochettino is his lethal apprentice. There are normally only two of them. The benefit of having a Sith Lord as chairman is that we have no 'leccy bill to pay, which I am sure MLG will confirm, and I'm sure is already reflected in the latest patch of Football Manager. Let me ask you a question: aren't you being hypocritical? Just to put your mind at rest Hamilton saint I don't think I am being hypocrytical. I think you have misread my post. You are correct in that I think I have come to the conclusion that he does seem to have a very poor style of man management. With out getting too involved in that, there are lots of examples none more glaring than in the disgusting manner in which he dismissed Adkins who for the record I have come to the conclusion that he is a man of integrity and would not be deserving of such treatment. You are incorrect in that I have not told you that he has no mates, if you re read the o.p. you will see that I asked a question, " does he sit alone because he is unpopular". I did state I thought it was unusual that he sat on his own, but that is simply my opinion. Some posters have said that he prefers to sit on his own and gets so involved and nervous in the game that he doesn't like to be talked to. That is an interesting insight and if correct makes my wondering if he sits alone because he is unpopular incorrect..... Having said what I have about Cortese regarding how I feel about his management style please note I haven't commented on whether he is good for the club or not. In fact for what it's worth I think he has done a lot of good things for us. I am just old fashioned perhaps but I think how we go about being successful is as important as being successful. Wanting to acknowledge the incredible changes that have taken place at our club since he has been involved, I simply also state that there are certain things about him that make me uneasy. Wanting to acknowledge the incredible changes that have taken place at our club since he has been involved, I simply also state that there are certain things about him that make me uneasy. Did you not title this thread "Cortese no mates"? There is no question mark after that phrase in your thread title, which would indicate that it is meant as a statement, right? I understand the reason for your uneasiness. I didn't like the way that Adkins was dismissed either. But we do not have the benefit of knowing anything about the inner workings of the club. Nearly all the negative comments about the Chairman are based on hearsay and conjecture - or "impressions" that fans have about his cool and disciplined manner. Most indications (both on and off the field) suggest that the rapid success of the club in the last few seasons has been built on a carefully planned vision and a no-nonsense approach at every level of the enterprise. Cortese is clearly not the personable type, but he is doing an excellent job. He may alienate people because of his blunt talk and single-minded pursuit of success, but he seems to be a principled and honest man. For no apparent reason (you supply none), you describe the Chairman sitting at the games "with a face like a smacked arse". How can you justify that comment? It's designed to ridicule and denigrate the man - and encourage others to feel the same. You may not care about rude and insulting posts on here (or do you?), but I do. It's just not right to defame someone publically because you don't like the way he looks, or you don't like his manner.

Ones that scream "dont mess about with it, get it foooooooooooorward" when we are clearly playing possession football. Ones who get on the usual players back regardless of how well or badly they are playing yet applaud a misplaced 10 yard pass by one of the golden boys as shout "unlucky".
