Iceland( The country)

Went about 5 years ago, it was very expensive for everything, a can of beer £8, meals c£30 per head and no better in the supermarkets.

It may be cheaper now due to the global financial problems.

I'd fly to Reykjavik rather than get the stomach churning ferry from the north of Scotland via the Faroes.

If you travel up and down the west of the country, you should see plenty of waterfalls, glaciers and geysers and the landscape is rugged.

Dont worry too much about the lack of information in finding hotels etc as you will find it is the only building for miles around.

The road around the coast is tarmaced, but the inland roads are gravel but still perfectly adequate. In fact more fun, we took the back tracks to the Blue Lagoon and it was an adventure.

You will often not see anyone else for a while and the roads once outside Reykjavik are sparsely trafficked.

Drive into 'downtown' Reykjavik and park up outside the stores, it's like a bigger Stockbridge rather than a small London.

After about a week we felt we'd done Iceland!

Much as Kingsland Red's experience. Went for three nights in May about 7 years ago. Took tours rather than driving, so got the commentary and guide which was helpful. Stunning scenery, still daylight at midnight, but was expensive - £85 for four pizzas and three cokes. Did the Golden Triangle tour with Geysers and waterfalls, Blue Lagoon and whale-watching, but didn't have time to get further into the interior. There's a church (Halgrimmskirke or something?) at the top of town with a really tall spire and a statue of Leif Eriksson outside. Worth climbing the bell tower for the view.

Oh, and EVERYONE in Reykjavik goes on the p iss on Friday night. Our transit bus nearly ran down a sixty-odd year-old woman tottering down the middle of the road about midnight...

Whale Watching - is a must (Bloody cold though)

Fresh Natural (non farmed) Salmon is a must

Blue Lagoon is a must (depending on your airline/flight times you can do it on way to the airport)

The Geysers & stuff.

Like others only had a few days there was brilliant, would have loved to do more interior/East Side proper stuff. And like others it was OUCH expensive. Went with work so we were on a conference package that included a couple of tours and stuff.

Oh and the place STINKS. Mainly the hotel bathroom/water supply - Rotten Eggs from the Sulphur from the Volcanoes. Soon get used to it though

Oh, and take a proper camera. If you have an SLR with decent lens's & fliters people will actually want to come round & see your holiday pics. Do NOT waste the beauty using a smartfone camera

Visited Iceland end of Jan this year, for just a long weekend and had a great time.Did the Blue Lagoon,Pearl,Waterfall at Gulfoss and some Geysers and the pingvellir national park.

Stayed at the northern lights hotel near the Blue lagoon and had a few nights at the hotel ranga.

Visited a small cafe in Grindavik (Bryggian)where the owner once played for Arsenal.Try the Lobster soup if you go!!
