Fitzhugh Fella Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Don't think I can recall seeing Ted Bates, Lawrie McMenemy or Harry Redknapp wearing a pair of slim fit denims on the touchline before? Is Mauricio our most stylish manager of all time or do others prefer the Alan Ball cloth cap look or even Paul Sturrock's crumpled fried egg sandwich image. Nigel always looked smart in a suit but there again so did Ian Branfoot.
Turkish Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 He is certainly a stylish chap I was pleased to see he'd dropped the bench coat a few games back as mentioned on here but it seems to have made a return. He needs a mid grey or black wool number this time of year. If he can address this we would have a manager who fits the image the club wants to present. As for the fans, well that's not going to be so easy.

shurlock Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Certainly need to be brave to pull off a skinny jeans, tie and blazer combo. The bench coat is what saves it.

manji Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Seems quite a character he was spotted in a well known Italian mens hairdresser on Friday. While his hair was being cut he was being seranaded by his minder/translator complete with acoustic guitar.

Fitzhugh Fella Posted 17 March, 2013 Author Posted 17 March, 2013 Clough's green sweat shirt, blue trackie bottoms was a classic
Lazlo78 Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Homo alert. Oh such bigotry. Pochettino looked very smart in those jeans - can't say I didn't notice it too...
Turkish Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Homo alert. Disgusting homophobic post. mods take action.
adrian lord Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Managers' coats have long been a sartorial sexuality signal and hotly debated. From Mourinho's coat for the housewives, through Wenger's paedo coat to Tino's asexual geek jacket. There's a PhD in there for someone.
Saint Billy Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Who cares what he wears as long as he keeps us up. Bank managers wear suits.
PinkScarf Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 The Girls like MP. A Red Tie with Jeans is a good look
Stud mark of doom Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Clough's green sweat shirt, blue trackie bottoms was a classic Especially if he had his boxing gloves
sfc1976 Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Judging by the state of the girls at St Marys I doubt MP will have a semi-on at that thought. Present company excluded I'm sure..
PinkScarf Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 There is Quality in Southampton. Just gotta know where to look !!
PinkScarf Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Sparkling Southampton outclass woeful Liverpool x
Badger Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 (edited) Don't think I can recall seeing Ted Bates, Lawrie McMenemy or Harry Redknapp wearing a pair of slim fit denims on the touchline before? Is Mauricio our most stylish manager of all time or do others prefer the Alan Ball cloth cap look or even Paul Sturrock's crumpled fried egg sandwich image. Nigel always looked smart in a suit but there again so did Ian Branfoot. You left out Graeme Souness, probably the most vain and style concious manager manager we've ever had. Badger Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Thinking back over the years: Ted Bates - & co, imcl John Mortimore used to appear in team photos wearing Hush Puppies, Jimmy Gallagher (was he a coach, or physio ? in a white lab coat) Lawrie - dawning of a new media age., full length leather coat ( I had to have one !!), and the 'Burton's ad' with Bobby Robson. Chris Nichol - never stood a chance following Lawrie, and always looked 'man at C&A' to Lawrie's emaculately groomed appearance. Branfoot - don't remember really, sometimes suited, sometimes a Cloughesque sweat shirt, no one gave a sh!t what he wore as it was all so depressing Bally - the legend of the cloth cap. Can't really remember those who followed on this front, perhaps we are now in the sponsored bench coat era.

Stud mark of doom Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Can you remember L Mac's long leather trench coat? Very Gestapo...ish According to lawrie in "diary of a season" that coat was very good for occasions when "I was likely to be mobbed by the fans. Very easy to wipe the finger marks off" or something like that.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 The Girls like MP. A Red Tie with Jeans is a good look Pinocchio oddly seems to favour the blue tie........ Someone needs to have a quiet word about that imho
dubai_phil Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 IF The team play like that every week AND Win every game between now and the end of the season by 3 clear goals or more AND IF We sign quality in the gaps we have in the squad in the summer AND wins our opening 5 games next season Then as far as I am concerned he can even wear a Mankini every week But He'd have to win the first 12 games to be allowed to wear Stone Island
Olallana Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Pinocchio oddly seems to favour the blue tie........ Someone needs to have a quiet word about that imho Why? If you think it would make a link to the skates......do you really believe anyone out there thinks a skate can afford a tie??
Badger Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 Can you remember L Mac's long leather trench coat? Very Gestapo...ish Yes, height of 1970's fashion. ICONIC - to me at the time.

As for the fans, well that's not going to be so easy. To be fair it was p*ssing down, not sure wool would have cut it in those conditions. Function takes a front seat when you're against the elements. Also, much as I've heard talk of him wearing Italian brogues on the touchline, looks more like he was wearing loafers on Saturday. Must have been all part of the more dressed down look when we play one of the smaller teams.
Turkish Posted 17 March, 2013 Posted 17 March, 2013 /\ he should have worn a trench coat then. A cream or dark blue one is a timeless classic as being fictional, warm as well as stylish Something like this would have suited him as well as protecting him from the elements. http://burberry.tumblr.com/post/43403824804/renato-photographed-by-the-sartorialist-in
