70's Mike Posted 17 March, 2013 Share Posted 17 March, 2013 Been thinking about this and it's not quite so black and white as that - we actually struggle most against the middling teams. Splitting the league in 3 we've got 9 of our 31 points against the top 7, 13 against the 6 other than us in the bottom 7, but only 7 v the mid-table sides. Obviously can't be judged fully until we've played them all twice, but a strange pattern given the notion of struggling against the poor sides. Where's that mini-league from earlier in the season ...? think it is down to playing well against teams who come to play whereas mid table and lower sides shut up shop, which is why i think it goes to last game. Pressing against teams who come to play is easier because they push up making the running to close down shorter. Teams whose back 4 do not get past half way in their own half lengthens the running need to close back 4 down
tajjuk Posted 17 March, 2013 Share Posted 17 March, 2013 Fantastic result, some of the best football I've seen in those first 30 minutes. Shame we couldn't have taken all our chances really could have embarrassed Liverpool. Everyone played well, best game for Lallana for a while, Morgan excellent again, Lambert much better (should have scored that one v one though) Jay Rod improves every game and Ramirez cutting in from the right, why hasn't anyone thought of that before? Liverpool had no idea where he was, couldn't handle him. Shame he went off early but tactically can understand it. Also how good are both our fullbacks? pace, strength, tackling dribbling they made both our centrebacks jobs so easy, Roy pay attention.

pele Posted 17 March, 2013 Share Posted 17 March, 2013 Was a great result and well deserved. It does concern me that the lack of atmosphere at the start of the 2nd half could have effected the team. As a whole collective team and fans we are immense at times however when people don't support for whatever reason performance on the pitch declined. You could sense the fans had gone quiet and were nervous and subsequently the team didn't start the 2nd half well. As for people leaving early don't even get me started on that one aggggghhhhhhh!!!!! St_Tel49 Posted 17 March, 2013 Share Posted 17 March, 2013 A lovely game to watch, especially the first half. My greatest fear is that the players are going to suffer from burn out and unlike under Adkins are not conserving energy between incredible these bursts of throttle. The players were superb and I don't accept it is due to "the players accepting my ideas" as Pochettino keeps spouting in interviews. Felt once again his substitution were all wrong and we really lucky Liverpool didn't turn up. Delighted with the result and the 3 points, And of course it had absolutely nothing to do with us not letting them turn up. We are a really jammy team just like we were against Man City. SaintRobbie Posted 17 March, 2013 Share Posted 17 March, 2013 Knew we'd win. Knew we'd wipe them out in midfield. Knew it! Knew it! Happy days. We'll defeat Chelsea too 2-1. Any team that plays through midfield is ours for the taking. Our midfield is fitter and faster than any in the Premier League. All we need is a defence to cope with the hoof merchants. Psycrow Posted 17 March, 2013 Share Posted 17 March, 2013 Can someone tell me at what point in the match Sturridge had his offside effort? On Sky they placed it before MS's goal while it was still 0-0. But MOTD showed it it as happening after MS's goal when it was 1-0 terrific performance from the team etc etc btw

redder freak Posted 17 March, 2013 Share Posted 17 March, 2013 Fantastic performance. A joy to watch. I wonder whether Ricky intended to hit the ball hard at groin height to open up the wall. Is that a standard free kick tactic?

Is that a standard free kick tactic? I think the idea was to sail it as close to the wall as possible, aiming for Lallana who had added himself onto the wall to obscure Jones' view. After all the close shaves rickies had with free-kicks this year, it was great to see it go in, even if it was off Sturridges bum.

Lambert given an 8 by Sky, 6.5 user rating. Rodriguez given 8 by Sky, 7 user rating. For a match we won comfortably and outplayed Liverpool for most of the game, we got two players rated 7 and the rest all below. Bitter Liverpool fans? Even the experts on "Final Score" were full of Liverpool not turning up on Saturday, but apologies if umpteen others have already stated that. Never mind, we'll keep under the radar until we are safe then.
