And on top of that, what does Morgan have to do to get a call up for France?

I've just realised I say "That said" quite a lot.

:(

And YES, spot on too. Cabaye... yes, he's good. Toulalan, yes, good also. Have they got all the attributes Schneiderlin has? Have they f*ck.

Boruc - HUGELY underrated, having a top class keeper has a huge effect on the team

JRod - Really picked up the last few games , starting to look like the presence he obviously was at Burnely. He's one player who has noticeably improved under Poch as has Davis

Lallana- Great interplay but someone needsto have him do shooting practice, the last 3 or 4 games he has played he's missed clear opportunities

Overall great performance and you'd hope we'd be safe from here

nice to see you posting when we win' date=' but you still had to throw in the "but", enjoy because bit by bit we are becoming a top flight/top half club again[/quote']

I agree, but lets try to make sure we dont throw any more silly points away that may be critical.

Btw, win, draw or lose, I post my reaction after EVERY game. Not my fault some of you only look for it when we lose.

Been busy all day so no match thread and no live stream - did I miss something ? :):):)

And Redkrapp is now further away ( points wise ) from safety than when he took over 17 games ago. Money well spent.:lol::lol:

Is that peach from off here writing dat?

Maybe he can answer a question for me.

is there some technical reason why reports is always like this?

With every sentence being a new paragraph.

It gives hurt in my brain.

but again we will lose points between now and the end of the season, as will other clubs, depends on what you call silly

What happened to Gaston? Thought he was very good first half. Yes of course several players were good/excellent too, but thought Gaston played a full part. So assume he took a knock to go off even earlier than normal?

Posted

Classic Saints performance against a top team. Just knew they would turn it on like they did against City. Result has made my weekend. Bring on the Chelsea Rent Boys.

Although we won I thought the ref and assistants were poor as usual.

Posted

Great stuff. Schneiderlin was my motm. Not only for his crucial early goal, but the way he controlled Liverpool who seemed to think they only had to be here to win. Did we surprise them? Notarf! They were crap.

We looked a bit nervy after the break and were letting Liverpool have a bit more possession in midfield than in the first half. Gaston didn't look exhausted or injured but I reckon MP brought Davis on to shore things up a little and stop Liverpool from getting a foothold in the game. It worked too - we looked a lot more composed with Davis in the team.

If there's any justice the next England squad will feature Clyne, Shaw, Cork and Lallana.

no thanks, don't want them getting injured!!! (although Clyne has already been picked for the U21s)

don't knock it....am more than happy for our players to remain under the radar and out of the spotlight....less chance of injury or their getting poached by someone else....

Funny from a Liverpool fan forum on Morgan.

Did I hear before that he's a Liverpool fan? Could pick him up on the cheap maybe. Would make a good squad player.

They must have missed he´s on a new 4yr contract....

Spot on Bexy thats exactly how I saw it - Liverpool were winning midfield for about 10 minutes and Gerrard was running it for a bit - Davis was very good when he came on - kept it ticking over, kept the ball and always available.

Just got home. A great performance from each individual and as a team. We could have won by more. What a great day to be a Saints fan!!

To be honest I usually avoid reading your posts. You come across as a self-important and footbal-ignorant twerp.

But hey, we aint all perfect.

Superb win and keeps Saints on track. Shaw, Borac, Morgan and Jay were particually good. Lambert was class and should of had 2 goals. What's important is this gives Saints a massive boost and if results go our way in next 2 games then almost there.

Yep agreed. Davis was very good, harried them very well too. Dont disgaree with the sub decision. But to be fair to Ramirez, first half he was very good and showed why we bought him

Really great performance today, actually thought the first half hour was the best we've played this season. Nice to see Ramirez put in a classy performance, but most happy for Lallana. I was worried he'd gone off the boil after the injury but was back to his best today, MOTM. Thought Clyne was brilliant as well.

Also, how good is Rodriguez' first touch? Such good control.

Posted

I thought we were very impressive today. We started with an intensity and drive which was missing from our previous two games. I don't think Liverpool were expecting what we did to them, and if we're honest - we well and truly battered them today.

The midfield ran the show. Take a bow Cork and Morgan - in my opinion the best midfield partnership in the premier league, they have everything about them. They compliment each other so well, they have this telepathic understanding and they just know where each other will be. It's magic to watch when it works as it allows us to control the entire game.

I've always liked Jack Cork, but this season he has gone further up in my estimations. I think he's turning into a top premiership midfielder and it will not be long until he's in the reckoning for the England Squad.

But what more can you say about Morgan? The guy just oozes class with every, single touch of the ball. Technically he's probably our best footballer and I'd bracket him in the upwards of £20m price bracket now. I think he's that good.

The front 2 caused problems all game and I thought that was one of Jay's best performances in a Southampton shirt. When he's good, he's very, very good. His pace, technique and movement is up there with some of the best English strikers, and when he's on his game he can be unplayable which he was at times today.

Lallana was back to his best, jinking, dropping his shoulder, putting in some telling deliveries and causing havoc down either flank all afternoon long. Welcome back Adam!

The full backs were also superb, so much so that I'd put that down as Clyne's best performance for us, I thought he was outstanding for the entire match. Unbeatable. Same can be said for Shaw, although he's setting that level for himself now.

Overall a really, really enjoyable afternoon. We tried to make it difficult for ourselves for a period but we were always in control of that and no one can deny that we deserved all 3 points.

We're edging ourselves away from danger and I don't see many teams below us with the quality we have. Still enough games for it to go either way though so we can't count our chickens just yet, but today was an almighty step to survival.

If Jay Rod improved his finishing he would be absolute class. Great goal today but earlier missed that open goal plus that glancing header when unmarked.

Posted

Premier leagues best midfielder is only good enough for Liverpool as a squad player ... Most deluded fans ever.

Posted

Was totally wrong before the game as I thought we would get beat, how wrong was I! Excellent performance by all of them! Only small annoyance was leaving no one up at their corners. It just allows them to bung everyone in our half. Pointless.

Very good performance from Southampton.

Seriously soft belly Liverpool showed in midfield. The central defence is struggling enough as it is with this Rodgers' system, the last thing they need is the central midfield going missing.

Full credit to S'ton. Some of Lallana's footwork

was lovely.

S'ton, probably the best side to have played at United, in terms of performance.

The new Saints manager is awesome. They deserved this win today

As for Liverpool, I hope they give the new manager a couple of years to mould the team into something he is comfortable with. I have seen glimpses this year of what Liverpool could achieve, but they need stability.

apparently in training his finishing is superb, according to Rickie interviewed on Solent after the game....so hopefully he isnt far away from improving it in a match environment.

The best crop of youngsters we've had since Shearer. Matty, Rod Wallace, Benali and Dodd ( today's full backs are going to be better of course) and today reminded me of when they beat Liverpool in their pomp 4-1. When JRod scored it was like when Channon scored 2 against Everton and it opened people's eyes that hey he is a good player after all.

2 points from today:

1. I was interested to see how Coutinho played. He has been praised in Liverpool match reports I have read but today he was pretty anonymous. He scored their goal but otherwise did nothing all game. On that perfotrmance, I am not disappointed that we did not sign him.

2. Based on today' match, if you were to put a team together of the best performers, I doubt if many Liverpool players woud get into it. ie. Boruc was better than Jones, Clyne better than Johnson. etc etc Perhaps Gerard would get into the combined team at Ramirez's expense - but other than him it is difficut to see any Liverpool player who played better than his Southampton counterpart'

My thoughts on the game and players...thank you..:)

Gave my MOM to JAY ROD...........:D

Nice when we play for 90 minutes at the level we need to be at for every game. But we need to do it more often than every 4th match.

Thought Lambert held the ball up superbly today. Bloody awful attempt at trying to beat Jones in the first half though, looked like he remembered he was a scouser halfway through it or something.

Posted

Oh, and I thought Boruc was by far our best player today. Held every single thing in very difficult conditions.

Had to laugh at Suarez not knowing that you get booked for preventing the keeper releasing the ball into play, what a nobber.

Posted
F*cking brilliant. Every player gave 100%. Not even gonna vote for a man of the match cos I won't be able to decide. Excellent stuff.

Games like today is why wh need to be able to vote for 3 players, would be a fair poll then. :)

Posted
Agree he was brilliant today' date=' pushing Jay for MoM in my view, but realistically not going to displace Cole or Baines at the mo (but maybe in a year or 2). Clyne & Lambo are more realistic options now IMO. And yes we need to sign Luke up at the 1st available opportunity.[/quote']

I absolutely believe we have 6 players who could/should make the England squad now or within the next 2yrs or so. Cork, Clyne, Shaw, Jrod, Lalanna are 5 of the best prospects in the country, and Ricky (age is against him but that is the only category that Caroll tops him in) should be picked NOW.

Posted

excellent all-round team performance; not one bad performance in the whole side. we completely outplayed them for most of the game and with more clinical finishing, my only criticism of us today, we could have had six goals. well done everyone, including the subtitutes. difficult to pick one mom but for me it would have to be our alsatian frenchman.

Posted

Great win, should have been a lot more. scary the similarities between that and Man City.

Thought we may well regret our missed chances (again) but great 2nd half. Liverpool really are a nothing side: Living off past glories. Johnson isn't England class, Cylne today was head and shoulders above him.

could do with a Newcastle win tomorrow. Then 6 points I think will keep us up :)

Posted (edited)

Glad we tore then a new one!

Clyne MOTM because he took Suarez out of the game magnificently. Morg MOTOM too for being a tank!

So long as we play more teams that play properly we'll be fine :D
