No surprise with the latest England squad then

Cork deserves a chance in the squad IMO. He's class and does the 'unnoticed' job in midfield. Would have him over Osman and probably Parker. Isn't it a friendly ? Thought the whole point was we were building for 2014. Parker won't be still around then.

Nor Osman most likely. Good player though, well I think at least.

To be honest, we aren't going to win 2014. I think we should just totally scrap the 'old gaurd' - Terry, Lampard, Gerrard, Barry, Carrick, Cole (still class, but hardly the future), Rio etc and just blood the next generation. Even if they do get tanked at the World Cup.

Interesting Rio is back in the squad, few years ago CB was one of Englands strongest position, looks remarkably thin now.

Same old Donkeys, Milner, Welbeck etc.

Even bringing back an ancient Donkey in Ferdinand.

New England coach, same old thinking.

Welbeck was excellent against Real Madrid for Man United. He deserves his place. Ferdinand is an automatic selection for the best team in the country and been excellent this season. Why is it wrong to call him up?

Neither would Lambert.

Why won't Parker and Osman still be around in 15 months time?

This

My first reaction was "is that it?"

It wasn't long ago that players like Le Tissier and Wright were banging in 20+ a season and couldn't even get in the squad. Now we have Welbeck in there who has scored 2 goals, despite playing for the country's best team.

You could plant a tree in the penalty box at Old Trafford and it would get two goals over a season.

Personally don't think Parker will be. He's not been great this season. Gets lots of knocks and his legs are going. He'll be nearly 34 by Brazil 2014

Osman I've never really seen an awful lot of tbh but from what I've seen he's really not that great. Personally id have cork if I had a chance but then I'm bias!

Just my opinion...

Cork and Morgan are the unsung heroes in our squad, so I'm not surprised Cork doesn't get a look in. I was surprised enough when he got picked for the Olympics, even if he did hardly play any of it. Unsung players can get picked for England, but it's only playing for a club consistantly in the limelight at the 'top of the league'. It's no surprise Parker gets picked more now than when he was at Charlton.

I don't think any Saints should be in there yet, but I can see two or three of our lads in the England squad regularly in the next few years - if we don't get relegated then that will be with us, otherwise it will be with someone else. I think Lallana will find his form, Cork, and Shaw could all be future England regulars. (Clyne? JRod? Puncheon? Nah.)

You won't be saying that when he's spooning shots all over the place in rio. A decent enough player with the ball but his finishin is woeful. Doesn't he have less than 5 goals this season?

Agree. Lambert too Old, Cork not good enough.

See I think that Lambert doesn't get it because he simply isn't clinical enough. At international level you don't get many chances so you cannot afford to miss 3 chances for every one you score. And I'm not just talking about the Norwich miss, he misses quite a few every game.

Wellbeck played well in a defensive role, he was put their to mark alonso out of the game. Can't really see why that would be a good basis for him to be one of England's main forwards. He can't finish, can't really dribble that well and his general all round technique is average at best. He runs about a lot and is quick that's about it.

He if he didn't play for Utd there is no way he'd get in the England squad.

Rio is 34 and is England's failed past, pointless selection IMO if we are supposed to be building for the future.

It's not surprising England squad, same old overated average players in there basically because of the team the sit on the bench for.

Though I don;t think there are any Saints players that probably should be in there, Lambert's form has dropped, if he'd scored 3 or 4 goals recently then yeh he should be in there I reckon. Cork might have a shout if he continues to improve, he could be a decent replacement for Parker who has declined due to injuries.

Shaw will be our most likely call up if we still have him, he's the 3rd best English left back already so injuries to Baines or Cole and I rekcon he will be in.

Who else is there then?

Strikers or generally?

Le Fondre deserves a go, 12 goals for a rubbish team with limited game time. He's a very decent finisher would much prefer a chance falling to him than Welbeck or Sturridge.

I'd also play Walcott up front with Rooney behind rather than Walcott on the wing.

Wellbeck i can understand , BUT how the fook can James bl00dy Milner get called up every time , and by every single manager who's in charge!

I seriously see nothing , absolutely nothing that he gives to a team. He doesn't even do "hard working" anymore FFS.

Thats (one of) the problems about our national side - too conservative thinking , no one daring to take a risk.
