KelvinsRightGlove Posted 14 March, 2013 Share Posted 14 March, 2013 I think if you can be explicit in stating your big club formula, it will help enormously. Big Club=x+y sort of thing But then how can he keep moving the goalposts?

The Kraken Posted 14 March, 2013 Share Posted 14 March, 2013 I'm surprised at the lack of Internet white knights rushing in to comment on the bullying and ganging up on Barry in this thread. It really needs the likes of suewhistle et al to comment on the schoolyard bullying going on and how unfair it all this. I'm surprised this hasn't happened yet. Barry Sanchez Posted 14 March, 2013 Share Posted 14 March, 2013 I think if you can be explicit in stating your big club formula, it will help enormously. Big Club=x+y sort of thing A big club to me is a club that has a successful history, large fanbase, sells out frequently, has a culture and heritage distinct from others. Again though subjective as supporters of smaller clubs can equally aregue their own merits of being big. History and the success of previous teams in clubs plays a huge part in their present, Sunderland, Newcastle and Celtic as examples.

Differing ideas and opinions are being discussed. Which I understood forums to be about. There hasn't been any name calling, or entire clans ridiculing one poster that disagrees with them. Well, that's at least how I see it. Do you think that's fair Bazza?

Of course I do, bellends love to jump on the bandwagon though, thats not bullying or any of that wooly crap its them being opportunistic bellends who see my post or thread and disagree with it regardless. I am not bothered, my threads and contribtions to posts are responded to more than most and what did Wilde say?

Actually there has been name calling towards Baz. Fortunately he's not a forum wet blanket and recognises banter and debate as a bit of a laugh and doesn't go crying to the mods like some others choose to do with similar such threads. Put it this way, I have said nothing to Barry here that I wouldn't say over a pint down the pub. Whether Mr. Sanchez would want to sit and have a pint with me is a whole other story. Dalek2003 Posted 14 March, 2013 Share Posted 14 March, 2013 No, they had better teams than we did when they came up, we had a woefully short team/squad but the blind enthusiasm and faith masked this when we were promoted it still does in manay ways. The cult of Cortese. Some us flagged this up in May last season but as usual we were vilified by the 'rose tinted spectacle' brigade.
von Dwinger Posted 14 March, 2013 Share Posted 14 March, 2013 I wouldn't pay too much attention to transfer fees.. its a bit of a red herring.... although the most of the media and your average footy fan doesn't really get because they all like the big juicy numbers of transfer fees... It's all about the annual wage bill.... Each year in all the top european leagues there is a huge correlation between wage bill and league placement.. explained in the book, Why England Lose: And other curious phenomena explained by Simon Kuper (Author), Stefan Szymanski (Author) (a bit out of date now) We could spend £30 million on transfer fees the next three years and Spurs/Everton/Arsenal for examples could have a net spend of zero.... ..the amount they spend on wages would still dwarf ours though to the uninformed it would look like we were the big spenders... These tables would only make sense if they were fees plus wages.. otherwise they are totally irrelevant... p.s - in another point, whilst some of our buys have flopped they are mainly all young and will have retained some value.. so not all is lost on the fees...
