KelvinsRightGlove Posted 13 March, 2013 Share Posted 13 March, 2013 Sorry I hear we are well backed but we still have only spent a mediocre amount trying to get the squad to premiership standard (failed as well but thats besides the point) so really are we that well backed? I certainly dont think so. I just cannot comprehend how £35m spent on transfers and around £12-£15m spent on infrastructure suggests we aren't well backed. Turkish Posted 13 March, 2013 Share Posted 13 March, 2013 In fact, taking the Turkish way of thinking, Lambert is a 24stone 32 year old injured non-scoring journeyman. Lallana has been out injured for 2 years witha hip replacement and he still thinks they're worth 6 million! Ah to be in the head of a looney tune! I hear the mods are considering renaming this board - Only Turkish can create threads and post articles. At least when you are reading a thread, you know it is valid if Turkish is on it, otherwise, you can just ignore it. Saves time that way. Maybe they should just invent a lounge section for a Turkish Love-In, but then again, the main board would be half empty of comments, in fact 75% down in posts! Thanks for the compliments but i think there are enough Turkish worship on here already without devoting entire forums to me!! I was of course talking hypothetically when i said Lambert was a24 stone jounrney man and Lallana was our for two years with a hip injury, in that scenario £6m would be a good deal. It's like some posters logic that if Ramirez had played mroe games he was guarenteed to have scored more and had more assists. It's impossible for him not to have. Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 13 March, 2013 Share Posted 13 March, 2013 This reminds of a time when I was playing golf with Nick Faldo............ Shouldn't laugh...but is very funny...

Barry Sanchez Posted 13 March, 2013 Share Posted 13 March, 2013 I just cannot comprehend how £35m spent on transfers and around £12-£15m spent on infrastructure suggests we aren't well backed. 30% of that was on one failed ego specualation nudge nudge wink wink transfer. To of got a premiership squad we needed to of spent wise and much, we have done neither really.

B) The second part of that you have completely speculated. No basis for that whatsoever. £35m is a significant amount to spend, as highlighted by the fact only 6 clubs in Europe spent more than Southampton in the summer window. david in sweden Posted 13 March, 2013 Share Posted 13 March, 2013 http://www.weloveyouwestham.com/2013/03/six-million-for-ricky-lambert-media.html?utm_term=%23westham+%23whufc .that was good for a laugh-wasn't it ? first he says Lambert is 32 (isn't he just 31 ?)....and then later that he's not the finished player. At what age will he be " finished "....35 ?......He may well be, but it'd be another sort of " finished". The writer then goes on to run down all the current Wham "stars" ..so who should Lambert be likened to ? ...Geoff Hurst ?
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 14 March, 2013 Share Posted 14 March, 2013 You don't think he's a journeyman ? Really ? He's played 29 Prem matches and is 31 years old. Even stereotypical lower league footballing joureyman Brett Ormerod (Wrexham, Rochdale, Blackpool, Oldham, Forest, Preston, Wigan, Leeds, Saints and Accrington) played in the top flight for over 4 years. He made 309 appearances with 62 in the Prem. Lambert is unlikely to match that and spent eleven years with Macclesfield, Blackpool, Stockport, Rochdale and Bristol Rovers until he joined League One Saints. 456 appearances, 29 Prem games. Correct, I don't consider Rickie Lambert to be a journeyman player, or anything like one. For the record I consider him to be a bloody good footballer, but perhaps one in the class below that of a true International. If it's your opinion that any player who spends a large part of their career outside the Premier League must therefore be of a mediocre standard, then I can only say that I strongly disagree. I suspect many others on here will too. If you want to talk about true 'journeyman players' then you should be starting with players of the caliber of Paul Wotton or Jermaine Wright for instance - not Sir Rickie Lambert. In fairness, Paul Wotton spent 14 years at Plymouth, then four years at 3 different clubs before going back to Plymouth.
