I felt that was quite a sensible view from their end. from our end we would want that amount as he's the best we've got and we need that kind of money to replace him however they wouldn't want to spend 6 million who would probably have no sell on value at his age. not slagging lambert, he's been wonderful for us, but talking from a financial point of view

Fareham Hammer? Who describes Lallana as being from Ringwood, Southampton.

Hmmmmm.

I'm thinking not the sharpest knife in the box.

Last time I looked, Fareham is closer to Southampton than Ringwood.

You can always tell how well thought out an article is, by the number of glaring factual errors in the first few sentences...

Six million for Rickie Lambert? The media must be having a laugh! For a 32 year old journeyman footballer?

Oh.....

It must be said Fareham is also quite close to Poopey! Maybe he jumped ship to the Hammers as an interim measure to wean himself slowly back onto good football. Big Sams long ball mob will mean he can at least see plenty of similarities in style with Poopey to not sock him too quickly!

Ignoring the fact he was born in St Albans and grew up in Bournemouth, how on earth is Ringwood consider an area of Southampton?

Look at you all getting all upset about the 'glaring errors' because they were a year out on his age and getting yourself at it because they don't value Lambert as much as you lot do and because they dont know nor give a toss thar Ringwoodis a suburb of Southampton. t's an article written by a fan on a mongboard. It's the not the press, it's not written by a journalist, he's a fan writing a perfectly reasonable article on a fans forum.

Rickie Lambert is not my (or I would expect any Saints fan's) idea of a 'journeyman player' - far from it. However considering his age and lack of pace the big money be quoted for him does indeed seem a tad steep. As for Adam Lallana leaving anytime soon, well 'never say never' but I seriously doubt it, even if we were to be relegated.

It surprising just how many other fans still don't realise just how well backed this club is financially.

Why would they when even we don't know?

Do you foresee a firesale of all our best players should we be relegated?

Can't say I do.

Who know, but the point being why would fans of other clubs that couldn't give a toss about us know our financial position And backing when we Don't know it ourselves.

Well if they're writing articles about signing our best players and speculation who will go if we are relegated, then by definition they must 'give a toss about us' no ?

Not at all, just pointing out its not an 'article' at all. Just a load of Bol locks written by the West Ham mongboards Colinjb.

Maybe the guy has some understanding of local history, since Ringwood is in the County of Southampton. From 1889 until 1959, the administrative county (Hampshire) was named the County of Southampton. So, not as stupid as you thought. However, I don't really understand why he refers to Ringwood at all, since AL is from St Albans.

Fair enough, I guess he just missed the news that it wasn't called Southampton county anymore.

Be honest turks, do you really reckon it would be perfectly reasonable for Saints to flog them Lambert for £6m and chuck in Lallana as a sweetener, as the WHU muppet suggests?

News travels slowly in some parts of Southamptonshire. He'll find out when they finally get Teletext installed.

In his little argumentative world yes probably, but only because everyone else thinks it's ridiculous

Being honest I didn't even get to the bit about Lallana, for two reasons.i was so outraged they got Rickies age wrong so the article had no credibility and secondly and more truthfully I soon realised it was just a mongboard article with some clown giving his opinion which means nothing.

If Lambert had been terrible this year and not cut it at all or been out injured all season and gone up to 24 stone then I'd bite their hand off for £6m for him.

Posted
So would I. But not with Lallana as well?!

If Lallana had been rubbish and ruled out for 2 years with a fractured pelvis then £6m for the pair a good deal.

You don't think he's a journeyman ? Really ? He's played 29 Prem matches and is 31 years old. Even stereotypical lower league footballing joureyman Brett Ormerod (Wrexham, Rochdale, Blackpool, Oldham, Forest, Preston, Wigan, Leeds, Saints and Accrington) played in the top flight for over 4 years. He made 309 appearances with 62 in the Prem.

Lambert is unlikely to match that and spent eleven years with Macclesfield, Blackpool, Stockport, Rochdale and Bristol Rovers until he joined League One Saints. 456 appearances, 29 Prem games.

Posted
But they haven't have they?!

I basing it on what might have happened if they had. Like how you did the other day based on how brilliant Ramirez is based on what might have happened if he'd played more games.

It wasn't that bad a piece in all honesty. He praised RL on his attributes and highlighted his lack of pace - which is true. Also, 6M is a ridiculous sum for a guy over 30. He was also quite accurate with Carroll, in that he's not all that much. Sure, there were inaccuracies, but it was not as jingoistic as some of the stuff written on here. At least he took some time to try and make a balanced view.

The guy writing the article used the phrase "pigs might fly" so he doesn't think it reasonable or likely.

It's just mongboarders on here going apoplectic. Well done divs, you have excelled yourselves with this one.

Next week: this forum pompously rips to shreds three lines of anti-Lallana abuse written on a toilet door in a pub in Havant.

It is, as the op says, an amusing article with some spot on player analysis. A few minor inaccuracies that only a pedant would highlight. Worse aspect was the repeated use of CAPITALS.

I don't think anyone seemed 'upset' or 'apoplectic' on this thread except the two of you. People were commenting on the amusing article, seeing as how the 6million deal was mentioned as being a Lallana and Lambert combo, and a lot of surrounding details were murky at best. In an post that was decrying the media as inaccurate, it seemed ironic. The age thing was of minor importance, as potential and years left count for PL players over 30, as they have no re-sale value. But no-one got defensive or started raging to the gods. With the exception of few posters.

You can calm down now.

Sorry I hear we are well backed but we still have only spent a mediocre amount trying to get the squad to premiership standard (failed as well but thats besides the point) so really are we that well backed?

I certainly dont think so.

In fact, taking the Turkish way of thinking, Lambert is a 24stone 32 year old injured non-scoring journeyman. Lallana has been out injured for 2 years witha hip replacement and he still thinks they're worth 6 million! Ah to be in the head of a looney tune!

I hear the mods are considering renaming this board - Only Turkish can create threads and post articles. At least when you are reading a thread, you know it is valid if Turkish is on it, otherwise, you can just ignore it. Saves time that way. Maybe they should just invent a lounge section for a Turkish Love-In, but then again, the main board would be half empty of comments, in fact 75% down in posts!
