Stadium revamp pics 'wow'

Looks like "fantasy island" stuff.

I just can't see the ground as shown there happening, let alone the redvelopment of the estate and waterfront around it. Southampton City Council have consistantly failed the city in the planning/development stakes and would never be so imaginative in seeing this scheme through. A few squat flats for eastern european migrants is more likely.

Where's the gas works gone?

That'll become a Holiday Inn or similar.

From when we moved in. the land around that is too "contaminated" on that part of the old Gas site to allow full time residential but a hotel would be permitted.

All it needs is an offer the owners of the Industrial estate cannot refuse and the gravel pit going. Then it needs someone with a LOT of capital available and the redevelopment and housing will make a lot of profit.

The Stadium expansion is as much "PR" for the Council as anything to get them to push through the big bucks land deal.

Now the profits and bonus on a deal of that size would be far more than taking a football club from L1 to PL safety.

All IMHO says the cynic in me of course

Its a serious point, not having Ted's statue in any revamped stadium would be a step too far.

It will probably have been relocated to a quiet corner, 'elf'n'safety, you couldn't just leave something like that stuck out front, someone might trip over it.

Nice to have a vision tho...and yeah, that 'Southampton Shard' does look good.

I thought originally it was going to be an education centre or something of that ilk.

Is that to educate us in the word of Cortese? ;)

It might look nice but will the seats be heated and will I get my prawn sandwiches served to me?

Looks impressive if it ever gets built.

Or laugh so much that they walk into a lamppost.

Aren't those exactly the same artists impressions that were on that DVD sent out with season tickets last summer? :?

Some changes have been made to the design, the new ones are far more detailed and for the first time we see images of the development around the stadium which looks to be hotel, retail, offices, apartments etc to raise revenue streams.

Interesting but such development needs a much wider scope then us. If we were to invest heavily I imagine council and private business would also need to invest. It could well happen and could make the waterfront more of a focal point bringing it that non matchday revenue ;)

I would imagine that's the idea. The club doesn't own most of that land so it must be banking on the council wanting to revamp the area. Would probably rely on some compulsory purchase orders as well.

Regenerates the area (which it needs), generates new revenue for both the council and club, new jobs. Plus just like Pompey a council supporting the local football club wins votes.

Also clearly this has been worked on since the start of the season so some people are taking this seriously.

The main issue for me though is access.

Look at the second image of the originals and compare with the first image of the new ones I posted. The stadium facade looks very different.

We also didn't see any of the hotel, apartments, retail, offices etc in the old images.

Mm that's rather what I had in mind. If investment came from all quarters and there was a bit of genuine ambition something brilliant could happen for the football club and the city.

I think the argument goes that if the place had enough draw to keep people coming from the local (i'm talking hampshire, somerset, dorset etc) area it could be an important part of the city and make the stadium more of a focal point then it currently is.

Hopefully any investment on this level would encourage additional transport links as well to make the whole area more accessible. Be that maybe subsidised buses from the main station or even the talked about additional platform such issues could be overcame.

As much as southampton has a fair ammount going on something like this could help it compete with the draw of London. Just look at gunwharf over in Portsmouth. Excellent use of available space.

Anyone else noticed the fans are wearing red and white stripes (insert dramatic music here)?

Is this just because it is what the architect whacked up or is there a hint towards the future? Or are we just at home to Stoke in these plans?

at least no-one is wearing jester hats or massive foam hands. I also notice they've done away with programme sellers. I spose in 2176 or whenever it's all gone digital.

On topics does anyone reckon ticket prices would double for fancy new stadium, like with Arsenal?

You mean like this?

One thing we have over that lot, at least our Stadium proposals can feature a full sized pitch! (And not resemble a sh*t hole, although based on their love for Fratton Park, give the public what they want!)

I think one thing many people are jumping to conclusions about so far, but not neccessarily limited to, are:

*red and white stripes making a comeback.

*no ted bates statue.

*that anyone really knows the capacity yet.(id imagin... a possible premature conclusion of my own)

This seems purely to be a mock up of 'wants' that the club want to have for a purely architectural viewpoint. Anyone looking into stuff like the statue or kit from this and drawing conclusions are probably asking a bit much.

They're just mock ups done by one company. I'm sure lots of designs have been made but the company are probably using it for publicity more than anything.

I don't doubt that Cortese has his ambitions set pretty high and he has definitely looked into an expansion, but that is some way off just yet. Anyone remember this???

Love the pics and they're amazing but I can't see Cortese continuing the Stadium Expansion development when we go down unfortunately.

The training ground planning application went in when Saints were in League One, construction started when in the Championship and will be finished this summer. Saints didn't need a training ground like they will have in League One or the Championship.

These plans for the stadium are for the long term benefit of the club and more than just adding capacity to the stadium, they are about increasing revenue streams for the club in other areas.

Unlike Pompey owners of the past decade, Cortese/Liebherr have a strong record of delivering on their projects. I doubt this is a pipe dream and think Cortese has every intention of seeing it through.
