John Boy Saint Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 My Headline was better, how exciting deleted thread coming for me!!
Colinjb Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 You are kidding! That's bizarre. Nigel Adkins would be a great fit for them, but I believe this will just ensure their relegation.
Doctoroncall Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Very odd, it'll be interesting to see who comes in. Will there be a Russian connection?
eurosaint Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Next two games are Man U and Arsenal, both away, so whoever takes over has a job on his hands even before they play us in 3 weeks time !!
Window Cleaner Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 You are kidding! That's bizarre. Nigel Adkins would be a great fit for them, but I believe this will just ensure their relegation. why would they sack a tinpot manager and appoint err a tinpot manager; There are far better unemployed managers available than Adkins.
John Boy Saint Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Next two games are Man U and Arsenal, both away, so whoever takes over has a job on his hands even before they play us in 3 weeks time !! Arsenal are a bit Jeckyll & Hyde, so not that much of an issue.
hypochondriac Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 At least their chairman gave their manager a proper thanks and acknowledgement of his achievement...
Window Cleaner Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Arsenal are a bit Jeckyll & Hyde, so not that much of an issue. with Spurs losing on Sunday Arsenal will have got a whiff of an n'eme consecutive CL qualification against all odds. They'll not lose at home to Reading.
DG Posted 11 March, 2013 Author Posted 11 March, 2013 Mark Bryans @MarkyBryans Seen a couple of pictures of Paolo Di Canio at #ReadingFC defeat to Villa on Saturday. Brave, bold appointment that would be... Heh.
Saint Garrett Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Would rather they had done this after we win at Reading. Our game against them will be their first 'winnable' game.
Cabrone Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Shame, I liked him and thought he'd done a good job there. Hopefully this will seal their fate.
Window Cleaner Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Shame, I liked him and thought he'd done a good job there. Hopefully this will seal their fate. Hasn't done a good job in the PL though, same as Adkins...out of his depth. Catastrophic recruitment and shîte football. No doubt they'll blame the board for that though.
itchen_dan Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Di Canio is where my money is at. Was at their last game.
Saint Scott Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Adkins is most bookies favourites with Di Canio a close second.
aintforever Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Bizarre timing, can't see them staying up regardless of who they appoint. I would have kept McDermott for his record in the Championship.
Saint Garrett Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 They'll finish bottom, theyre awful. Just hope we can get a result there. Would have been very confident of 3 points under Mcdermott, but not so much under a different manager.
Olallana Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 In their official statement they hope to have a new manager in place as soon as possible.... People still thinking that is a better strategy than having the replacement ready?
Window Cleaner Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Adkins is most bookies favourites with Di Canio a close second. and yet Di Matteo will probably be the first to be offered the job, he'll probably turn it down though.
shirleysfc Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Nigel Gibbs (who???) is 12/1 I'm backing Steve McClaren at 40/1
ART Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Adkins in to get his revenge? Exactly what I thought when I read the news. Would be the perfect posting fror Nigel.
thorpie the sinner Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Mr Adkins might just be phoning his agent tonight!!
FloridaMarlin Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Whoever comes in will have to work with the players they have got, a squad of players who most judges think are not good enough. Even the best coach in the world can only effect a limited improvement. Whoever goes there is on a hiding to nothing. Those on here who think we didn't do enough in the summer or transfer window to improve the squad should be grateful that REading did even less than us. Unlike saggy chops, they haven't got any scope to improve the squad at this time, and it really is a bizarre time to do it. Normally, if you don't sack a manager before the transfer deadline to give his replacement a chance to bring in some players, it's a sign a club is sticking with the manager for good or ill unti lthe end of the season......
Colinjb Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 why would they sack a tinpot manager and appoint err a tinpot manager; There are far better unemployed managers available than Adkins. But realistically which of them would go there? Adkins is available and proven in the league they will be in next year.
thorpie the sinner Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Although McClaren just left twente as intimated, could be a shout!! Nah our Nige I reckon
the saint in winchester Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Adkins in to get his revenge? Heck, I hadn't considered that .... but he wouldn't have to move house or for his kids to change school. It's a possible ... but I think he will maintain his gardening leave until he has agreed compensation, probably over the summer, and then take up a new role for next season.
Kingsland Red Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 But realistically which of them would go there? Adkins is available and proven in the league they will be in next year. Cortese would not view a move to a relegation rival favourably and NA is on gardening leave anyway and probably not available. I would expect he would also lose any form of pay out were he was able to get another position this season.
110_Persaint Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Who the hell cares who the next manager is? This team is going down faster than a sack of spuds in a famine.
Saint Garrett Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Who the hell cares who the next manager is? This team is going down faster than a sack of spuds in a famine. Because we play them in 3 weeks, and are only a few places below us..
110_Persaint Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Because we play them in 3 weeks, and are only a few places below us.. For someone as negative as myself (according to this forum anyway) even I can now tell you that those will be the easiest three points we get all season. We can almost write this game off now as a 'win'.
Wade Garrett Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Glad we haven't settled with Adkins yet. Settle it after we play Reading.
Miltonroader07 Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 I am sure that NA will get them out of the Championship next season
teacher Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Nigel won't go unless NC pays up as he is on gardening leave! I can see NC trying to delay any compensation hearing/ payment until the end of the season.
shirleysfc Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Nigel won't go unless NC pays up as he is on gardening leave! I can see NC trying to delay any compensation hearing/ payment until the end of the season. On Goals on Sunday yesterday Alan Curbishly said it took 18 months to get his settlement sorted with West Ham.

We can almost write this game off now as a 'win'. I wouldn't even put it as a 'definite win' let alone an easy win.
Crab Lungs Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 why would they sack a tinpot manager and appoint err a tinpot manager; There are far better unemployed managers available than Adkins. Tinpot? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... This really is a mongboard, isn't it.
110_Persaint Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Tinpot? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... This really is a mongboard, isn't it. Don't feed the trolls.
shirleysfc Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Don't feed the trolls. Nice one Dune, nice one!
shirleysfc Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Nigel Gibbs (who???) is 12/1 I'm backing Steve McClaren at 40/1 McClaren in to 14/1 at Will Hills!! Please let this happen!!
pingwing Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Tactically limited manager with one of the worst squads of players to every grace the premier league (only better than Blackpool's squad a few years ago). Utterly mental sacking though, no chance someone can turn them round in 9 games.
dubai_phil Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Perfect job for the maniac DiCanio. They will go down but he has stepped up a level so is good for his cv. The ONLY thing a manager can bring now is motivation. Paulo is madder than a Boruc so makes sense Stupid job for NA. Better will become available - Villa IF they go down for eg
Puddings and Monkeys Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Perfect job for the maniac DiCanio. They will go down but he has stepped up a level so is good for his cv. Better will become available - Villa IF they go down for eg I can still see NA at Leeds. Don't think what's happened today will have any bearing on where he will end up. Be a very brave/stupid manager who goes there so prob Di Canio is a good call. Interesting comment on a BBC page - of the 9 teams they have left to play they have only beaten 1 this season. Not looking good for them. 8-)
The9 Posted 11 March, 2013 Posted 11 March, 2013 Adkins in to get his revenge? Why do you think we're still paying him ?
