SammyJ Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Was a bit board so decided to produce the ultimate Saints squad since formation of PL in 92/93. Rules are simple, any Saint who has played for us since this date can be selected(does not have to have actually played in PL). Here's mine: Niemi Jones Clyne Richards M.Svensson Bridge Dodd Lundekvam Monkou Shaw Walcott A.Svensson Schneiderlin Bale Chamberlain Cork Palmer Lallana Le Tissier Lambert Beattie Pahars Some may question the selection of Carlton Palmer but he did have one amazing season at The Dell! Any glaring omissions? I think this squad would see us finish about 6th!
Turkish Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Is this based on what they did in a Saints shirt or what they did throughout their careers with other clubs but played for Saints since 1992? If its the first the Walcott, Bale and Chamberlain wouldn't make mine and if it's the later then you've got keepers like Chris Woods who was here on loan and Jamie Redknapp, Kevin Phillips and Mark Hughes who was a fantastic player for other clubs, not so fantastic for us to consider. Colinjb Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 On current form I may argue for the inclusion of Boruc over Jones... or make it three keepers and include them both. Matt Oakley as a central midfield option would be a must, also we seem to be missing Ronnie Ekelund.

Deano6 Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Eyal Berkovic would be in there for me. Also prolly put in Crouch and push Le Tis into advanced midfield role.
Colinjb Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Tim Flowers over both of them. I could cope with that. Niemi first choice though.

Hmmm, I guess I was factoring in both elements I.e. I picked Bale because he started life as a saint and has gone on to become world class, but dismissed the likes of redknapp because he was well past it by the time he joined. Good shout on Flowers BTW, for me he takes Jones place on the bench!

If we can players from their prime who happened to turn out for us after passing their peak, then Dan Petrescu and Graeme Le Saux would have a case for inclusion too. Turkish Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 (edited) If it's based on what they did throughout their whole careers not just with Saints then mine would be this. GK Niemi, Tim Flowers, Chris Woods DEF Jason Dodd, Dan Petrescu Neil Ruddock, Dean Richard, Micheal Svenson, Ken Monkou Wayne Bridge, Graeme Le Saux Mid Matt Le Tiss, Jamie Redknapp, Gareth Bale, Theo walcott, Ronnie Eklund, Eyal Berkovic, Anders Svenson, Alex Oxlainde Chamberlain, Matthew Oakley, ST Mark Hughes, Kevin Phillips, Peter Crouch, James Beattie, Marion Pahars. All those in their prime is a top 6 side. Edited 11 March, 2013 by Turkish forgot to include MLT!

Barry Sanchez Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Flowers was a better keeper than Neimi. If this was players playing in their prime solely for Saints Flowers Dodd Benali Monkou Ruddock Le Tissier Prutton Oakley Berkovic Pahars Ekland Bizarre choices but I mean players who played at their peak at the club. If he did then i would swap him with Svenson, Berkovic or Oakley. I think he was here for about 3 months, made a couple of sub performances and then started whining he wasn't playing, Strachan told him to 'play better and get fitter then' so yes, good shout, his instead of Oakley probably. sandwichsaint Posted 12 March, 2013 Share Posted 12 March, 2013 Shearer left the season the Premier League started. Oops, will have to go Mark Hughes/Kevin Phillips up front then (we've had some decent players through our doors over the years).
