JPTCount Posted 10 March, 2013 Share Posted 10 March, 2013 used both, and as an android user found the N7 easy to use, not keen on amazons spin on the os, as opposed to a completely unskinned version of android, but depends if u are going to use it mainly as an ereader and already had a kindle. if so, then i'd say stick with the content you have, and its delivered pretty well for that. although you can still get the kindle app on android, and google books is smart. but for the rest i'd say go with the nexus, its a google branded piece of hardware so is always up to date and you have full access to play as opposed to the selective amazon marketplace. the nexus looks and feels slightly flasher too, but not much in it. only used the kindle briefly, couple of hours or so, and own a nexus. personally i'd take the nexus anyday. View From The Top Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Daughters have a N7 each and it's top draw. I have a Samsung Tab and the screen isn't as good as the N7 but has the micro SD slot.
Pugwash Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Used both. Nexus 7 is better. For expansion, use an OTG ('On-The-Go') micro-USB cable with a $1.99 app called 'Nexus Media Importer'. You can then use USB stick for movies, etc.

Prefer having a micro SD slot myself.

Essruu Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 If you can't afford the iPad Mini (or can't wait for the HD version) and don't have other iOS devices, then go for the N7. The Kindle is a lump of craap.

The Kindle is a lump of craap. If you'd rather not buy overpriced gear then avoid the iPad mini and buy the equally good N7. As stuff magazine say: "the Nexus 7 is simply brilliant value. That’s why it retains second place in our Top 10, with the iPad Mini a new entry in third."
Essruu Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Stuff magazine is a comic in the tech world and the have a couple of notorious Apple-hating staff writers. It doesn't mean the whole staff share that opinion (wherever it is: I couldn't find it!) - as proved by this review and comparison of the three tablets http://www.stuff.tv/news/computers-and-consoles/versus/apple-ipad-mini-vs-google-nexus-7-and-amazon-kindle-fire-hd which has the iPad Mini head and shoulders ahead in all respects. T3 share the same opinion: - "Whether you buy this [iPad Mini] over a Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD comes down to your perception of value and image. But, with all considered, we’d say it was the best of its breed." http://m.t3.com/reviews/ipad-mini-review

After they reviewed it they put it in third.

Pugwash Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Daughter owns an iPad mini, basically for her iPhone, itunes , etc. I've got a N7. N7 much better, more flexible device. Daughter jealous, but now too locked in to the Apple system. Friend has a Kindle Fire HD, but not a patch on either N7 or mini. Even more locked down, but I can understand it as a good easy choice for book buffs.

That link is to a preview, not a review They rank nexus 7 as the number 2 tab and ipad mini at 3. See http://www.stuff.tv/top-10s/tablets Anyway, the op asked a simple question about 2 specific items. If he was interested in the overpriced alternative he'd probably have asked. Saint-scooby Posted 18 March, 2013 Share Posted 18 March, 2013 N7 is far better got 2 for my twins, only downfall is the screen repair, like the apple repair cost will go down over time.
