As above.... presuming we play Lambert up front...

I've got it down to pretty much 5 people we have become accustomed to seeing in these roles:

Jason Puncheon

Adam Lallana

Steven Davis

Gastón Ramirez

Jay Rodriguez

Who would you pick?

A) Puncheon, Gastón, Lallana

B) Puncheon, Gastón, Rodriguez

C) Puncheon, Lallana, Rodriguez

D) Lallana, Gastón, Rodriguez

E) Puncheon, Davis, Lallana

F) Puncheon, Davis, Gastón

G) Gastón, Davis, Lallana

H) Rodriguez, Davis, Gastón

I) Rodriguez, Davis, Lallana

J) Puncheon, Davis, Rodriguez

Also, any chance of the mods turning the above into a poll? Please and Thanks.

Right now, B. but has changed a few times this season. Feel that Poche has got another level out of Jrod and he really fits the pressing game as he runs his balls off. Lallana is a hugely talented player but I find he tries to do too much and is poor defensively. Saying that, we have played some of the best football this season with A.

However against the top teams or games we're not expecting to get anything from away, i'd be tempted to play Davis in there instead of Gaston.

Constant for me would probably be Puncheon...never thought I'd say that a year ago!

Punch,Davis,J-rod for me as well.

With Davis in he offers more support defensively than Gaston when Cork or Morgan push up.

I) I know Davis isn't fancy but we seem to play well when he's in there and he makes runs beyond SRL which the others struggle to do...

Gaston does run beyond and is a better finisher than Davis

Good thread.

I quite like B for use in home games, when the pressure is on us to attack.

But E/F away from home wouldn't be a bad option either. I do like Davis and his injuries this year have been a bit frustrating, quite an important player in some of our big performances.

Personally don't like Gaston on the wing as he offers sweet FA defensively and also can't get involved as much as he'd like. Also think JRod gives us that work rate and bit of pace which is handy for counter attacks away from home.

My opinion though...

It's a fair point, would probably be pushed to go for option e to be honest (away from home)

But I thought J Rod was utterly incapable of playing on the wing.

He isn't a winger, but is a very capable forward. He is good with the ball at his feet, can run at people and his work off the ball is excellent. He is effectively an on form Lallana right now, sadly, both are incapable of finishing at the moment.... but Jay brings more endeavour currently.

J for me. Steven Davis is not recognised for his contribution to the side because he isn't really a 'classy' footballer like Gaston supposedly is. What he is though is consistent and we know what we get from him - commitment, 100% effort and energy in midfield. Don't understand why he has been left out, other than yesterday (illness), in the last few games after City.

Rodriguez is one of those players that just seems to be involved in every attack, even if his finishing isn't the best.

Thought one of the reasons we were flat against QPR was because he was dropped.

Based on that, J.

Shame Bearsy is dead, he'd love you answer egg.

I debated over the or tbh but knowing how easily excited you and the bear are I went for the safe option. What's happened to the bear?

In all honesty, it depends on a number of factors: who the opposition are (their defensive strengths and weaknesses); home or away; weather conditions; are all those players fully 100%, or are some carrying knocks or niggles; etc.

Assuming all will be 100% for our next match (home to Liverpool) I would start with A - Puncheon, Gastón, Lallana (with the intention of replacing Gaston with Davis for the last 20-30 mins).

P.S. Why no Guly? ;)

Oooooooooooo.

For me, on current form; Puncheon, Davis, Rodriguez.

Harder working and have actually delivered more when playing together so far under MP

A. The more those 3 play together the better. Giving up because it doesn't work instantly is crazy. They're clearly the 3 most talented and creative players.

Given our position we can't be giving players/units time to gel. We need results.

That's the trio most would love to see working, but given the need to grind out results we need to select on form rather than expectation.

Fair play to Lallana today. Was very good. Thought Puncheon should have started but Poche proved me wrong. Good to see him play like that.

Set pieces were also much better today I feel from Gaston and Lallana.

Rodriguez Davis Lallana I would say. Or Puncheon rather than Adam.

Steve Davis is not given enough praise for the assurance, flow and tempo he gives to our passing game. We never look clueless regarding what to do with the ball whenever he's around while with others trying to overdo every move we often run out of ideas and end up passing it around the area for no good reason. He is also one of our best attacking players in terms of defensive work and pressure on the opposition's lower midfield.

Full time? D. But it changes on form - Davis was very good against Man City, Puncheon has been very good all season too, but in terms of talent, it has to be JRod, Adam and Gaston - although you could even argue that my inclusion of JRod there is based on form.
