Micky Posted 10 March, 2013 Share Posted 10 March, 2013 I just think that our confidence will be shot to pieces after the next two games. We failed to hold on for a couple of minutes at Wigan, lost at home to QPR - not exactly glowing endorsements for any of our upcoming games. Therefore it really is difficult to see where the points will come from. Also not too confident that 37 points will be enough either.

110_Persaint Posted 10 March, 2013 Share Posted 10 March, 2013 If anything comes back to haunt us it would be the two Van Persie goals. Had we just kept our concentration and those not gone in, just how different would the season have turned out. I'm guessing we'd all be on here debating whether we can make the Champions League or just have to settle for Europa. (I'd be in the former!) It's moments like that which you tend to group with losing 3 - 4 to Leeds, Peter Crouch shooting straight at the keeper against Everton instead of putting it into row Z. The nightmares just persist......

modern matron Posted 10 March, 2013 Share Posted 10 March, 2013 I so hope I am wrong, but unless we start picking up a few wins soon then I do fear for our survival. We can write off the next two games against Liverpool and Chelsea and then we face a must-win against Reading. If we were to lose that game, then we would be in serious trouble. Of our last six games, forget Tottenham away - that leaves us to pick up points from West Ham, Swansea (A), West Brom, Sunderland (A) and Stoke. We have to try and get at 12 points from those games or we may just shoot ourselves in the foot. COYS! Why can't we get something from both games? What negative nonsense... Hedgehog Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Any team from Fulham downwards are still in it ie. those teams have 33 points, any one can still be dragged into it. But as games go on, then there is obviously less games left to catch up, but at current standings games played, even on 33 points you still are looking below yourselves in the table rather than above. pingwing Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 QPR 18th, Villa 19th, Reading 20th. Chances are we will beat Liverpool and Swansea just because they both try and play properly, the chances of either team sticking 10 men behind the ball are very low. Chelsea we can get another draw out of as they are staring to implode, WBA and Stoke are beatable and turning up at Reading who could already be pretty much done for should be ok. West ham we'll probably draw with Spurs and Sunderland being down to what they have to play for really.

ToreSF Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Reading, Wigan and QPR for me. Two Swans doesn't make a summer for Harry, still think they are ****, and will go down. We need three wins and one draw from our last matches, and we'll be safe IMO. Wins against Reading, Hammers and Stoke, draw against West Brom. Easy as that. Well you hopefully get answes for such poor purchases, you get Les Reed the **** out of football, you employ someone who has actually played the game (Ray Wilkins or someone of that ilk) and get them to oversee purchases, and you get Cortese there simply to sign cheques and not sign players. How can you seriously point to QPR as an example in this case? They have spent way more, pay way more in wages, and are still bottom of the league, like they have been the majority of the season, whereas it's been several months since we have even been in the bottom three, let alone the super-wise spending QPR. As flawed arguments go, this is amongst the best.
Barry Sanchez Posted 11 March, 2013 Share Posted 11 March, 2013 Why? They have put their money where their mouth is and gambled hugely, if they stay up was it worth it? Would we of done that? Of course we would, we have tried to do it on the cheap with one large ego signing that has not worked, Redknapp could just pull it off, salt in the wounds but I for one will admire the achievement. I will always be fuming if we go down as we could of done something similar but bottled it, the clappers will still try and take some moral highground of not spending what we dont have and letting the academy players play, that comfort blanket is as transparent and the argument is hollow. QPR is a valid example IF they stay up, as it stands I think they have the same if not more of a chance than we do of staying up. MOMENTUM. Amazing, the pampers posse were previously complaining how much we had spent and how much trouble we were going to be in as a result. Now, it's a case of we were trying to do it on the cheap. Funny how all the people who told us how crap Adkins was are now talking of him as the best manager ever, and calling his sacking the reason we will go down. Despite us still not being in the drop-zone, still 4 points clear, and having not been in the bottom 3 for months. And despite all these amazing teams that are oh so much better than us, and us being so awful, despite a couple of wobbly results - they still haven't reeled us in. Funny that, isn't it. I fancy a bit of optimism considering most the thread is doom and gloom, the way we have been playing football recently is very good and feel we have been quite unlucky not to get more out of the last few games (Wigan had exactly 2 chances in that draw, United could well have been a draw as well and well Newcastle was a very good showing despite conceding 4, 3 of which were debatable/very preventable) so there is a fair bit going for the side, just can't really deal with teams that play horrific negative hoof ball, like QPR and Norwich. Only really West Ham and Stoke left who play that... Yep Chelsea and Liverpool looked really shaky yesterday Both play a game that is much more attackable from our teams point of view, both like to pass it about and build up nice play, if we keep our concentration up and stick with the high pressure game we will be a lot more competitive in both games. A very optimistic forecast, but I so hope you're right. Our remaining games all look tricky, even Reading away. Reading is the one I am most nervous about really, if we let them have a sniff of a goal they will probably take it and shut up shop for a 1-0 which we have struggled to break down. Everyone else is less prone to doing this (or at least as over the top) which given our style of play should really help us.

Other than Remy (whose worth is yet to be proven) I don't see huge potential for asset stripping and as for Redknapps claim that they would get more than they paid (and indeed had an offer) for Samba I'll put that in the same filing tray as his stories on banking. If they get relegated they are screwed no one is arguing that at all, but at least they had the balls to try it, they have done it at 100% where as our mincy board have neither given the manager (Adkins) the trust or backing to sign players and I am pretty pretty sure he did not spend £12 Million on Ramirez which in irony turns out to be a shocking investment ego signing thats failed, who gets the questions for that? If we go down who gets the questions for failing to sign the correct players? How many players will go? Where will the money from the sales go? Who will we bring in? Is this part of the five year plan? If not whats the contingency?
