Liverpool Build Up Thread

Wouldn't be the end of the world if we lost these two, but we have to get a win soon. We're capable. But certainly worried about Liverpool's front line. Can't see us not conceding.

We could well the the drop zone if we do. We need 2 points minimum.

At least for this one we won't have NA praising Liverpool up so dramatically for the week prior to the match. For the away match the players were were in awe of the Anfield powerhouse and froze on the pitch. Nigel handled that game's build up very badly indeed and completely fumbled the psychological battle.

Spot on, as in nearly always wrong?

Sorry to say but we are due a downer. Saints 0 Everton 4 and Saints crashing down to reality.

Local game for me, I can't see us getting anything from this game. Norwich 2 Saints 0

I can see us winning this one, a hard game but Saints 2 QPR 0

I think we will struggle against the Geordies. Newcastle 2-0 Saints. Back in the mire.

Man City -Not expecting much from this game. If we can keep our losing margin down to 4 goals, we will have done well.

Wigan - Sorry, but I think we are going to get smacked in the head today. A shambolic 3-0 defeat for the Saints sees us spinning into the bottom 3

We will be lucky to get any thing from this match, in fact I think we will be taught a lesson Manure 7 - Saints 1

Two results correct out of seven is pretty impressive and he was even closer with the scores.

Some more, courtesy of google:

I think we are due a thrashing. 5-0 to The Stoke

Saints 2 Arsenal 6 (for the 1-1 home game)

I am afraid this will be where the season blows up in our faces, an easy 3-0 victory for Villa.

I think we are due a thrashing and that Fulham will win 5-0

Living in Liverpool its safe to assume I am not looking forward to this match, Suarez wil have a field day against our back four.

Barry what's going on? You predicting us to loose:?

Honestly I have never seen you write anything positive about the club or players, and every time I visit the site you seem to be online. Dont you have anything better to do

in your life then troll on a football forum of a club you cannot support (everyone disagrees and has a moan at the club at times, but you are just pathetic).

Much better to have a guy who can't speak English and has won just 1 in 7 games leading into the game.

Liverpool were poor against Spurs who looked like they would win comfortably until Walker dropped the goalkeeper in it, then Suarez, a second after a touch threw himself on the ground for a penalty. A lot softer than Shaw's at Norwich. A decent enough side but not unbeatable.

Liverpool were lucky but I have to pull you up there, if you think that was not a penalty and softer than Shaws than you are either Renton or Shane McGowan.....................

Thought it was a definite penalty.

Very clumsy from Assou-Ekotto.

Thought Ramirez showed no bite, no creativity and never looked for an easy pass. His touch was good and his burst from midfield for the chip was decent but he offers less than Davis right now. As for Rodriguez, he is pacey and has improved going forward. However, he gives so many fouls away and tackles like a striker. Lallana is a better tackler, just needs to track back more but think he will work well with Shaw.

Premier League ‏@premierleague

Phil Dowd has been appointed referee for Southampton v Liverpool on 16/03/13.

Damn, he is terrible.

He did the away game at Fulham (1-1) awarded us that pen 5 mins from time for the hand ball. If it had been clattenburg or one of the other clowns we have had this season they would probably waved play on imo but Dowd was brave enough to award us the handball (TV proved it was a correct decision). He has done Liverpool 3 times this season :- wba 3-0 defeat (s/o agger) ; spurs 2-1 defeat and a 3-0 home win against sunderland.

Liverpool were very very lucky to finish with 11 players. On any other day 'Lord' Gerrard would have been given two yellow cards and Suarez a straight red for his deliberate back-heel into the spurs defenders leg because he lost the ball. If Dowd has any balls he will be quite aware of the shenanigans of certain Liverpool 'celebrities'. I just couldn't believe the amount of deliberate fouls they got away with. I'm quite optimistic for this one and reckon we'll steal it off them. 3 points to Saints.

To be honest Norwich weren't at the races. Gaston has not shown his 12m potential at all this season and is not made for a relegation scrap. It's no coincidence he wasn't playing when we beat man city, where Davis was very good. This will need to be a similar performance, grind out a result, get in the faces of a bredan Rodgers side. Sorry but Ramirez not for me.

Of course they weren´t. No team has been that last 1,5 month against us apart from QPR.

Another with attitude. Agree or disagree, so what, it's only an opinion. I thought he made a meal of it.

We have to accept Ramirez will be at his best on a sunny warm day on the hallowed prize winning turf of St Marys, not the second half of a Norwich bog heap in freezing wet conditions, the boy will come good and be a hero, but maybe not Saturday v the Scouse. Do well to get a 1-1 or 2-2 draw, must have the pacy full backs playing though to achieve that, with Puncheon and Davis as well.

After watching the pool against Spurs on Saturday I think we have a decent chance. Spurs gifted them the game with two howlers (definite penalty btw, not that Suarez needs an excuse to go down), but before that Spurs were looking comfortable and should have been more ahead.

They do generally beat the lower half teams and by a lot, they have beaten QPR, Sunderland, Fulham, Norwich, Wigan, Swansea by at least 3-0, but then again lost to Stoke, Villa and West Brom (and Oldham) so they are inconsistent.

They look suspect at the back to crosses and their fullbacks leave the back four exposed. Need Lambert dropping onto Johnson, probably puncheon whipping in crosses from the right with his left, like Lambert's goal against Utd at home.

Also Cork and Morgan need to get tight on Garrard and snuff him out, he doesn't have the mobility and power any more so if you keep tight on him you can keep him shackled. Keep Gerrard quiet and keep enrique busy, that will cut the supply to Suarez and get him coming deeper away from our goal.

His movement in and around the box is what will kill us. keep him away form the box and he'll become far less effective. Coutinho also looked good against Spurs with the link up play but he's also very leightwieght, so we need to get physical on him. Walker bullied him out of the game (at times unfairly)

Our pressing game should work well against Liverpool, they will try to play out and they will attack us, if we can get them on the back foot early there are mistakes in that defence, especially if Reina doesn't recover, Brad Jones looked a bag of nerves on Sunday.

TBF very few of Liverpool's players will have played at SMS before and this is something we must take full advantage of.

I fully expect to see the Liverpool players nervously leaving their team bus to a white-hot reception and then seeing them on the pitch at 13-45 in white ice-cream seller suits, joshing each other with their programmes, nervously waving to their families and with plenty of camera-phones being held up. 2-0 Saints.

We must revert back to the Fonte/Yoshia pairing with shaw and clyne at fullback. Be a disaster waiting to happen if big clumsy Jos comes up against Sturridge and Suarez. He will add to his OG tally and give away a pen guaranteed :)

boruc

clyne

fonte

yoshida

shaw

morgan

cork

puncheon

ramirez or lallana

Can definitely see Pochettino matching up Liverpool in this one and going 4-3-3. I'd go with this myself.

Boruc

Clyne

Fonte

Yoshida

Shaw

Cork

Schneiderlin

Lallana

Ramirez

Lambert

Rodriguez

Don't think we'd change formation, and don't think we'd play Gaston out wide because he is poor there.

Same players but 4231 and swap Punch for Lallana though...

I've got 3 spare tickets for the Liverpool game due to a severe lack of communication between me and a friend. They are in the Chapel, Block 16, Row JJ. £39.50 each (£118.50 for all three).

PM me if you're interested.

We're currently 4 points from the dropzone, and I'd quite like to keep that at least at 3 after these two tricky rounds of matches. Looking at the other teams fixtures, I think we need a minimum 1 point from these two, but it might be more. Depends who comes out on top in QPR vs. Aston Villa.
