@SouthamptonFC: Southampton are delighted to announce that Club Captain Kelvin Davis has extended his contract until 2016. #saintsfc http://t.co/hp9z53JSIf

Odd.

Odd ? . not really.

He won't get too many games perhaps, but he's great to have around and a good role-model for younger players in the club. Possible future goal-keeping coach.

It looks to me like another advert for those watches !

I would assume that he will become a goalkeeping coach and be emergency back up but not necessarily considered for the first team ?

Think thats the club thanking him for his loyalty in the past. Lets him finish his career and move into coaching here. Very unlikely to get much game time if we stay up.

@SouthamptonFC: Kelvin Davis: "When I first came to this club, to be here for this period of time is something that I would have dreamed about." #saintsfc

@SouthamptonFC: Pochettino: "Every successful team needs to have characters like Kelvin, so I'm delighted that he has committed to the Club." #saintsfc

THIS ..and besides , KD can probably say as much to encourage other players as Pochettino (a.t.m)....QUE ?

Nothing odd about this. Need to keep him at the club for as long as possible and let him grow into the coaching setup, where he is clearly going to end up.

Absolutely delighted for him. Who knows, he might even get more game time if we get relegated. Either way, very pleased for the lad.

Clearly Cortese is willing to reward loyalty and achievement.

Whaaaat???? Nasty Nic, the child eating, rent dodging. power crazed dwarf?

I hope they aren't dicking around with Rickie's contract if they are giving them out to players who shouldn't be anywhere near the team.

The reason why I thought it was odd is that he's already 36 and he already had a contract until end of next season. Thought he'd go into coaching ad the end of next season to be honest.

At 36, I'm surprised he doesn't want to play regular first team football but it's no doubt positive news for us. Been very loyal to us and was pivotal in our successive promotion seasons. That Leeds game at Elland Road last year in the Championship is reason enough to give him an extension.

When you think the players loved and cherished Nigel, that's not really the case then is it?

Where did you hear this? I'm sure like with any club, opinion of the manager is divided to some extent

In every post-match interview in our horrendous start to the season, some player would say that the whole team are backing him and really want him to stay. Even when many fans, including nearly this entire forum, were calling for his head (Leeds, WBA).

Exactly what I was thinking.

It seemed odd that either he or the club would commit for so long at his age, but makes sense actually. He'll almost certainly retire after this contract is finished with.

But same players are now saying very nice stuff about Pochettino and the impact he's had.

Ultimately, players are happy when they are playing and or getting paid well.

What's consistent no matter who our manager has been is that players always refer to the chairman in a positive manner and his actions have supported this when is comes to the playing staff.

There were people calling for NA's head, but 'nearly this entire forum' is certainly overstating it.

Very true. The Leeds Capital One Cup match thread makes for hilarious reading considering we were playing our reserves.

Good news, he's a legend, but fairly strange decision for him if he's looking for regular football. Could be getting regular time in the NPC, and Gazza is only going to increase in popularity for the pecking order.

Oh well, love him.
