£6m for Lambert - aye or nay?

He won't go and if he did he it wouldn't be to them. Only relegation would allow him to leave otherwise no chance in hell.

I do love it when figures of authority with the inside track post how it is and how its going to be. I'm relieved to hear this news.

heart says no but gut says yes. Reason is he's 31 and that's a very good price for a over 30. Also we will be aiming for a Spanish/South American style of play and they don't tend to have a striker in the Lambo mould, they go for more of a striker who closes down, tracks back to help midfield, pacey, lots of movement etc, not having lambert will mean no long balls. Look at Liverpool, they have turned out to be a pretty good side since January, they have no big striker to aim for, they use lots of through balls to pacey forwards and it's working really well using the 433, something we should aim for. Loosing Lambo for a world class striker in the Suarez mould (without the cheating) would be great.

No.

Good point, we'd only waste it on a Kenyan and a Norwegian international bench warmers.

Exactly.

6 mill is alot for a 31 year old but I think he is to important to the team to sell, I certainly wouldn't want him to go!

On the other hand if we found another 7 mill Benteke I wouldn't put it past Cortese selling....

I think I'd rather have the £6m Lambert who took the penalty at Viila Park for us in the team, than the highly rated buffoon you named here, who on the same afternoon managed to spoon everything over the bar.

Or more importantly a forward 3 of Emmanuel Mayuka, Jonno Quick and Tandoori Lee. What an explosive and potent attacking threat that would be.

Or,

1 x Rickie Lambert

1 x Morgan Schneiderlin

1 x Jason Puncheon

1 x Jose Fonte

1 x jack Cork

1 x Steven Davis

FFS, I hate how sh!t saints are at transfers

My forward line was better than yours. You can't have a front 6 FFS.

Rickie is on record saying he wants to finish his career here, and he's said in the past that the only other club he'd want to play for would be Liverpool. I doubt he'd leave us to go to West Ham when he's got a family and young kids who are settled in the area. Plus he is vital to us, adored by the fans and a popular figure in the dressing room. West Ham is full of c*nts from top to bottom (Top: Gold & Sullivan, Middle: Allardyce, Bottom: Nolan).

West Ham are going to chuck money around at clubs to get a striker, but I hope that we don't try to cash in.

How much would Hooper cost? Celtic now seem to be admitting that they will have to sell some of their start to allow their careers to progress.

In purely financial terms (were a business right) 6m for a 31 is very good money. If we could get Hooper in, young player but (I think) with a similar sort of style, CL experience etc I would take it.

We have to look for a top class replacement to Lambert soon enough anyway, he won't play on forever. For what it's worth I'd keep him.

Agreed, but replacement doesn't necessarily mean they have to be a similar type of player. Other teams do just fine with different kinds of strikers leading the line.

£6 million is a very good offer for a 31 year old with no re sale value in 2 years time but then again is very little compared to the increasing riches of staying in the premiership-next years money is nuts. I would keep him but we need a plan B against a big strong dominant CB like Samba. I woud extend him until the end of the 2015 season.

£6M is a decent price for a player that has a couple of years top level service left in him.

It depends on how we spent it really.

I'll get some stick for saying this but I'd have Andy Carroll, give him the right service and he'd score quite a lot.

A much better player than his detractors would have you believe and I think he'd fit with JRod and our midfield.

I would not want to sell Lambert but if it happened then I agree with your comments about Carroll. He is vastly overpriced and it would need some hard negotiation.

Thing is, I thought he'd do really well at Wham.

I mean if anyone is going to get the best out of him, it would be Fat Sam. I thought the signings of Carroll & Jarvis were his master plan? Though neither have exactly flourished.

Granted, he has been injured, but a striker you are agreeing to potentially pay £17m (plus, what? £70k-80k p/w) returning 3 goals in 17 appearances is somewhat disappointing.

£6m for Lambert would be over his market value.

But very much under the value he has for us.

Obvious no, we´re not in a situation when we need the money.

We can afford to let him play out his career with us and he has at least two good years in him and still bring in another top striker during that time.

We all should remember that this is Rickies last chance for a big contract. Whether that's with us or someone else, important decisions have to be made and no one should assume any particular outcome as there is a lot at stake for all involved.

Nay. You can buy strikers, but you cannot buy the sort of positive impact Lambert has on the club, his team mates, the supporters and the positive vibe that comes from having him around. He is more than a striker to us and you simply can't buy that these days, it's a very rare thing indeed.

Why would any sane person want to sell Lambert right now?

Not just a proven goalscorer (and has he ever missed a penalty for us?), but a talisman for our club. And an honourable person - if that means anything to some of you people!

Nope :)
