Lallana attempts many more 'flicks' than Gaston

but lallana is only on £30k and imagine what would have happened if his 'flicks' had come off and if he'd crossed instead of shooting against West Ham away he'd have had another assist to his name and if he'd shot instead of passing against Everton away he might have scored and if he'd not got injured at Reading he might have set up 24 more goals, or something.

Since Jan 2012, by which time promotion to The Prem was looking probable, Transfers-in have included:-

Tadanari Lee

Maya Yoshida

Nathan Clyne

Steven Davis

Jay Rodriguez

Gaston Ramirez

Paulo Gazziniga

Emmanuel Mayuka

Artur Boruk

Vegard Forren

Of those 10, Boruk, Yoshida and Clyne are regular first choice players. Rodriguez is moving towards regular selection, while Davis and Ramirez seem to be in and out. That leaves three not being picked and Lee out of the club, initially on loan. Two of our recent opponents, QPR and Newcastle appear to have achieved more with their inward transfers. Is SFC's recruitment team performing well enough?

Interesting list Professor, but surely a question to be asked AFTER they have left Saints, and not soon after they have joined.

Going on past performances..... players like; James Beattie, Chris Baird (and most recently Jason Puncheon)...didn't get much praise when they started, and took several seasons to get established.

Although both the first mentioned left the club ....after about 6 years service, SFC also ended up with a good profit after their departure.

What's the betting that ONE of "your list" on the OP..... may end up becoming a club legend.....?

NO!.. I'm not going to speculate which one .....

Another assist today for Johnson I see. that over priced waste of space who just strolls round the pitch not earning his money.

If you bothered to see what the Sunderland fans thought about him, you'd see that a fair few can't stand him. There's no denying that he has been an absolute disaster for them this season, signed with a big fan fare but has delivered zilch. The jury is well and truly out.

And we all know fans forums are a bastion of sanity and reason, just look on here. This forum loves stats. These were quoted further up the thread to 'prove' Ramirez was a better buy than Johnson. All it proved was that Johnson was Cheaper, scored more goals and got more assists than Ramirez, as well as playing more. It's fair to say Sunderland have had better value for money. If there is 'no denying he's been a disaster' what does that make Ramirez?

That's different. Ramirez has had a poor start but he is young and hungry so he is bound to improve. Superstardom beckons.

The three key attributes all young saints players have, of course.

They're 2 players that play in different positions, 1 is a winger, the other plays in the hole.

Don't think Gaston had his best game yesterday, but he did play a glorious reverse pass that wasn't read by Rodriguez. In time, it will come good.

Surely threads like this aren't really a fair way to judge any players' value - are they Professor?

you've named 10 players .whereas there were half-a dozen others who were fairly certain of at least a bench spot before the named 10 came, and we can still only play 11 men at a time.

We saw last season that many players came to SMS who were not upto the standard of " Saints-fit " (whatever that was) and had to wait their turn. Billy Sharp wasn't (when signed), but his goals got us up.

No-one has yet succeeded in deposing Rickie Lambert, Schneiderlin, Cork or Lallana and now Shaw are usually on the team sheet before the day of the game, so few others get much of a fair chance to show.

Do you /we expect a player to sign one week, go on to play a blinder every game for the first month?....... Does that mean he was a good buy?...even if his form drops off later on?

A lot of people on this board were queueing up to sack Jason Puncheon a year ago, but looked what happened.... right now... he looks a very good buy.

JayRod and Yoshida have defied the criticism that came .....even before they played, and surely Boruc has to be seen as the automatic No.1 keeper.

You never know how a player will develop and if we sign someone for three years, it may take half of that contract before we see their best, and no-one shouldn't be judged on half-a-season.

This thread amuses me. As for "shots on goal" as an indicator of success, as opposed to, I dunno, "goals" or "wins" or "points"... there's no better indicator of the effectiveness of these shots other than the "goals" column, nor any indication of how the turning over of possession as a result of weak long range shots contributes to our downfall compared to keeping possession of the ball to build to a better chance, or how likely the opposition is to score against us when we're off attacking all the time.

And comparing our last 6 matches to the first 10 of the season with the level of opposition we were facing is just ridiculous full stop, it's a totally unfair comparison.

agree with that one The 9.

Shots on goal - don't indicate superiority in a game, or reflect the final scoreline. two instances that come to mind in recent years. ¨¨

We won 6-0 AWAY v. Wolves at Molineux (incl. Saganowski hat-trick), yet had only 8 shots (?) ....on target in the entire game.

...........and another where we had 20 shots in a match v. Reading at SMS .....and it ended 0-0.

(Though it's not Saints'......Chelsea's win in the CL final last season v. Bayern was so one-sided .. I lost count of the shots tally when the Germans passed 25 ...but Chelsea won on pens.

After the 95 mionutes...it's usually those that go in that count...except in World Cup games Mr. Blatter !:x

Hmmm. A bit like betting on horses, only in retrospect. I reckon generally something like 40-75% of transfers are disappointments. maybe more.

Our leading signing had a superb contribution to our most important vicoty of the season................................

So far...at the moment a potential win v.Stoke on the last day would still be the greatest.

How many people on here have said Clyne is "sh it"? Or anything remotely like that? Can't recall it myself.

Or is this just being made up by resident forum tw ats perchance?

But everyone is a waste of money and sh!t. You don't know what you're talking about.

You don't half talk some nonsense. I thought you arrogantly claimed a few weeks ago that your posts were worth reading?

Just fed up of all the constant drivel on here about our signings. They're good players and all add certain things. Some people just like moaning for the sake of it.

It would help if you didn't constantly make up things people are supposed to have said, you do it all time.

Or that I have better things to do than go searching through old posts to find the exact words that were used.

Who has said everyone is rubbish and a waste of money? I can save you time. No one.

These people look for anything to lie about to justify their views as opposed to open and honest debate, I am so happy we won today I dont care about our wasteful signings.

From what I can remember, some people said we possibly could have signed some players with a bit more premiership experience. I think that would have been a big help for the first eight games especially.

I said that and still stand by it.

Boruc, Clyne, Yoshida, Davis and Rodriguez all very good signings, no questions there.

Ramirez definitely class, needs a run of games with Lambert and Rodriguez but big competition from Lallana and Puncheon.

Mayuka and Forren only question marks.

An excellent first set of signings for the Premier League.
