Pilchards Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 It's puzzling that Saints have been putting in extra shifts on the training ground but against QPR they looked flat at times? That brings me to the conclusion that MP may of burnt the players out like Christian Gross did at Spurs. IMHO every player should manage 90 minutes training most days and even some light drills two evenings a week but it does not give much time for recovery time for minor knocks. I know Clyne and Shaw took part without being 100% fit and this upset the opportunity to raid the QPR flanks more often. Another thing I would like to raise, Is all the football in Spain tappy, tappy? The reason why I ask is because our high pressure football works a treat against good passing team but seems to fail against the long ball counter attacks, perhaps MP's system was never tested? braveheart1983 Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 Very good point! I'm concerned about 5 aspects: 1. Burnout of players 2. Injuries being now picked up with the new system 3. Players not being suitable 4. Lack of plan B or C 5. Running a high line defensively and playing the offside trap is a dangerous strategy?

I think some of our players looked tired against both Newcastle and QPR. Then again, we should might remember that it took Pochettino 10 games to turn things over when he took charge at Espanyol. scotsaintsfan Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 I also find sometimes during the warm up players are knackered before the game even begins, is all the running about before the game really necessary ?
Dr. Kucho Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 Good point made Pilchards. I was thinking that whilst watching the game Saturday, the QPR players just looked fitter and more alert. Shaw constantly picking up minor injuries could also be due to being overtrained, at his age he cant be worked to hard, that could make him injury prone in his later career (though I am sure the medical and fitness team know better then me). tajjuk Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 We've played 3 games in a month. They can't be tired.

I disagree, QPR players were continually being dispossessed by Saints. Other than some good quality from a couple of individuals and a brick wall of a centre back I don't think they matched up to Saints at all. Whilst I don't think we played as incisively as in some of the last few games I'm in no doubt that QPR were very lucky to come out of the game with a win. Window Cleaner Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 the QPR players just looked fitter and more alert. . A fair number of QPR's starting line up on Saturday have played 10 games or less this season. Harry drafted in a lot of new faces. Boothroyd 1 game,Remy 4 or 5, Ji Soon Park 10 , Hoilett 10 plus a few sub appearances. Most of our lads have 20+ games on the counter.
Saint Charlie Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 Nobody was worried about overtraining a couple of weeks ago.

I thought Hoillet aside the QPR team looked very sluggish and unfit, most of their players were very ponderous in possession. We robbed them of possession in the middle third on numerous occasions but then did little with the ball and slowed play down too much. We play with two holding mids and whilst Cork and Morgan are excellent incisive passing and creativity I don't think are their strong points. Although a lack of movement from Lambert and Puncheon in particular didn't help.
lillyflo Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 That is exactly what i said to my husband on the way home from the match! They looked knackered, and i wondered if the double training sessions had something to do with it.

Our side has hardly played much football this season. No cup runs, plenty of 2 week breaks.
Huffton Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 I also find sometimes during the warm up players are knackered before the game even begins, is all the running about before the game really necessary ? No, totally unnecessary. In fact they should just come out cold, sunday league style, and all pull hamstrings inside the first ten minutes... 110_Persaint Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 Overtrained or undertrained doesn't make a difference when you haven't got a clue how to play football in a top-class league.

Barry Sanchez Posted 4 March, 2013 Share Posted 4 March, 2013 No amount of training could sort out Danny Fox's love of being in crap positions and giving away goals.
