pangy Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 As the lone striker surely he should be on the last man ? So many times this season we have quickly broken on the counter attack only for it to be passed out wide and nothing come of it as defender have got back to cover Is it because he doesn't posses the pace to beat the last man? Is it to hold up play? I know I will get slated but I think on recent performances I would prefer to see J-rod playing through the middle,he has that extra bit of pace needed for the quick counter Don't get me wrong Lambert is a legend but I feel like defenders have him sussed out now I also think you would see a better contribution from Ramirez as he would feed him balls that Rickie would never get
Saint Garrett Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 Because it's what he does. He has done it ever since he joined.
Saint_clark Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 We've scored a fair amount of goals from him being out on the left.
Matthew Le God Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 Because it's what he does. He has done it ever since he joined. And has been very effective for us in the last 3.5 years, as it isolates him against normally small fullbacks.
pangy Posted 2 March, 2013 Author Posted 2 March, 2013 We've scored a fair amount of goals from him being out on the left. Not recently that I can remember ? Can you?
UpweySaint Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 It creates space for others to play and allows for the "diagonal" balls into the box that, on their day, have been v effective for us. Sometimes yes it leaves a space but the idea is one of the other players takes up that space, in theory anway ...
pangy Posted 2 March, 2013 Author Posted 2 March, 2013 Can you tell me the last time we have scored from Rickie being wide on the left? Villa at home is the only one I can think of !!
ART Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 He also is found in defense when our opponents get a corner and we need extra support. Ricky plays out on the wing in order to put over good passes to other players. Sometimes he's too tied down in front of goal so by moving out he can add something extra to goal opportunities by his ability to find his target.
pangy Posted 2 March, 2013 Author Posted 2 March, 2013 2nd of September !! Just proves how ineffective him being out there it is
Saint_clark Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 Can you tell me the last time we have scored from Rickie being wide on the left? Villa at home is the only one I can think of !! City, although it was an own goal.
S-Clarke Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 Bit of an odd thing to pick up on. It's always be the case. He's always done it. Sometimes to the right side as well. Usually very effective if the midfield runners and wide players come in side and join in the box, although if they don't then you get what happened today.
pangy Posted 2 March, 2013 Author Posted 2 March, 2013 But when you watch that og nobody was even near the ball, pure fail by Barry If he is going to play wide at times the other players need to get in the box quicker.
Saint Garrett Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 But he's always done It I'm struggling to see your point. It's worked for 3 years why would he change his game completely just because we lost to QPR?!?
beatlesaint Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 But when you watch that og nobody was even near the ball, pure fail by Barry If he is going to play wide at times the other players need to get in the box quicker. Oh the penny has dropped then !! Yes they bloody well do, and in the first few matched under MP the midfield were doing that. You must have watched Rickie long enough now to suss out he is so much more to that team than a centre forward. Some of his passing, especially from out wide, is sublime.
CaneNero Posted 2 March, 2013 Posted 2 March, 2013 Because it adds another level to his game. Half the praise he gets is from his positioning and distribution.
