Turkish Posted 26 February, 2013 Share Posted 26 February, 2013 ... hardly Pulitzer Prize stuff... and not actually any news. Chelsea want Shaw - nothing shocking there' date=' 'continuing dicussions' = increased offer/alternative T+Cs...pretty much expected if they are keen. 'confident' - well would they really publish anything that said 'reducing confidence'... Lots of interest for Shaw (pun intended) andmore to come no doubt. Difference these days is that we are in aposition to ensure any deal must be right for us. Big Test for NC[/quote'] Oh i dont know, they have produced some excellent articles about us in the past few months and this appears to be another to add to the list. Well researched, insightful and clearly has substance. Well done the Daily Mail.
Depressed of Shirley Posted 26 February, 2013 Share Posted 26 February, 2013 Why did Shaw agree to sign a contract at 18 if he wanted to go to Chelsea? He must know they were interested, and could have just waited until the summer and moved then. We could have done nothing apart from go to a Tribunal for his development costs. Instead he publicly committed to us, and has "promised" to sign in July for four years. The Mail may be right, but it just seems a bit strange to not wait if he wanted out. ToreSF Posted 26 February, 2013 Share Posted 26 February, 2013 He is from Kingston, so West-London, and apparently a Chelsea fan. Wouldn't surprise me massively, and if the deal is right, I would find it hard to hold it against him wanting to go play for the team he supports, in the CL and challenging for more titles than he would be likely to here. I refuse to beleive that football players choose which club to play for based on who they support.
pingwing Posted 26 February, 2013 Share Posted 26 February, 2013 He is our player for now and I think he'll stay, the hot prospect 18 year old move to a massive club thing is starting to wear thin (especially if Chelsea don't get champions league which is a real possibility) as less players are breaking into prem first teams, AOC is the last to do it and even then when he was playing well he was getting subbed by Wenger. From what we have seen of Shaw so far he has his head screwed on and shouldn't be tempted to bench warm for 30k a week just yet when being first choice prem LB is his current status in the squad. Chez Posted 26 February, 2013 Share Posted 26 February, 2013 Not surprised Chelsea want him. he has been outstanding since coming into the side and looked particularly good at their place. £10m seems low seeing as Zirkov cost them £18m.
Appy Posted 26 February, 2013 Share Posted 26 February, 2013 If Cortese can get 12-15 mill for a player that has only excelled in League One, it will be interesting to see how much it would take him to part with Shaw.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 26 February, 2013 Share Posted 26 February, 2013 I refuse to beleive that football players choose which club to play for based on who they support. I'm not saying that will be the sole deciding factor. Though, I think it may play a part. It would certainly make it a harder proposition to turn down. Um Bongo Posted 26 February, 2013 Share Posted 26 February, 2013 Given how we have seen Bale progress, Would take nothing less then £25m for him if he was to go. Play them at their own game.
Depressed of Shirley Posted 26 February, 2013 Share Posted 26 February, 2013 It doesnt say he wants out, it says Chelsea want him. All I mean is that lots of people on here are convinced that he will go to Chelsea as soon as they decide they want him, but it would have just made more sense not to agree to do anything, and then sign for Chelsea at age 18. Play them at their own game. if he can be stand out at 17 in the prem, what's he going to be like in a year or two. £25m soounds outrageous, but it really isn't if you think the lad might be an England left back for the next ten years. 110_Persaint Posted 26 February, 2013 Share Posted 26 February, 2013 Everyone has a price... but Luke will be the first test for Cortese with repsect to his 'need to create an environment and culture where young players want to stay' Like most, belive he will leave at some point as offers will eventually become to good to turn down.... but I want to see the club move away from selling th best talent at 17/18 and holding onto these players until they are at least 21/22 - we get the benefit of their talent for several seasons, and also realise their TRUE value. He develops at the rate he has done, in 3 years time he will be 25-30mil. I just hope Luke recognisies that he is better off here for the time being regards his development, and is not a 'I want it now' type that so many youngsters seem to have become in this day and age. Finest post in a rather incongruous thread.

david in sweden Posted 27 February, 2013 Share Posted 27 February, 2013 .......just about the most ridiculous story I've read for a long time. Now that all the hacks have started to come out of the woodwork...and admit his talent ....somehow they think we'd sell him for a little bit out of Chelsea's petty cash box. ...and even MOTD " experts " have noticed him, but they should know that £10 million couldn't buy his right boot - let alone his left. david in sweden Posted 27 February, 2013 Share Posted 27 February, 2013 Headline says 'set to land for £10m' then article says "Sportsmail can reveal the Blues had a £10million offer for the England Under 21 defender rejected by Southampton in January" Why on earth would we sell for in the summer for the same money we rejected in January ...after he has spent the second half of ths season proving he is one of the most promising young English players in the league? Do these journalists ever bother to read their own stories to check they make sense? .....make sense?...that is a bit extreme Ken Tone, .......next .....you'll be trying to convince us that some of them went to Journalist School
mcjwills Posted 27 February, 2013 Share Posted 27 February, 2013 I do not think he will go for a few years, but by that time he will be worth the value we need to get a top class international to replace him or will have the next one lined up oft the production line. edprice1984 Posted 27 February, 2013 Share Posted 27 February, 2013 If we stay up he will stay, if we get relegated he won't. Judging by what I have seen of him, he will be in the England squad for the World Cup in 2014. He is that good. Cole has been very lucky with injuries but he is getting older, and his form is certainly not as good as previous years. Baines is an excellent player but I remember issues around home sickness etc. Even if not true there does seem to be a perception that this is a problem. Shaw is one of the best young players I have even seen, he is much more advanced than Theo, Ox or even Bale - if he continues his development he will be a world beater, I just hope he remains our world beater
