Luke Shaw in Daily Fail link!

Total fabrication

headline aside the facts in that story all ring true:

  • Chelsea want luke shaw - i can buy that!
  • Chelsea had £10m bid rejected - i can buy that!
  • Chelsea "insiders" have been telling journalists they is v.confident - i can buy that!
  • Chelsea gonna have another go in the summer - i can buy that!

Still can't see us selling just yet tho, unless we go down or Shaw decides not to sign his contract or whatever. Reckon he'll end up there eventually tho.

It's come up again but it's so full of holes this report, read on and decide for yourself.

Where are these holes then? I know you put yourself up as a Saints "insider" to no great effect, but this is entirely a Chelsea story and I know for a fact you know jack sh it about them. So hole me up.

Who cares about these stories? We don't have to sell him and if the red top rags persist in stoking the fires between several glory teams, then the price they will have to pay to get him will rise and rise.

I'm sure that he will go eventually, but the money we will get for him will enable us to buy in some pretty good players both to replace him and to strengthen the team in other areas. And we'll probably already have his successor on the way through the academy anyway.

Can anyone confirm his contractual situation? At 17, is he actually contracted to us at all? Is he not a free agent when 18 (or something)? OK, he said he "wants to commit himslef to saints", but in the real world 'the situation changes" and he's off.

For once, completely agree. Big clubs want Shaw. Of course they do. And he will go one day. And we move on.

Not sure.

Got the impression that he was tied into signing that contract on his 18th birthday, but legally I'm not sure where we stand. I don't see why the club would have made such a big deal of it when he 'verbally agreed' to sign if there was a chance he could leave for a tribunal fee before that!?

Headline says 'set to land for £10m' then article says "Sportsmail can reveal the Blues had a £10million offer for the England Under 21 defender rejected by Southampton in January"

Why on earth would we sell for in the summer for the same money we rejected in January ...after he has spent the second half of ths season proving he is one of the most promising young English players in the league? Do these journalists ever bother to read their own stories to check they make sense?

He's said he's signing with us. When that happens whoever wants him will need to spend a fortune to get him.

Can't say im worried

Didn't Schneiderlin sign yesterday, Puncheon and Shaw have yet to, I have no doubt the charisma of the don will woo them, after all when he speaks to us and the press we hang onto every word hold on a minute.........................

I thought we were going to be Barcelona in 3.4 years? Surely our players can see this? What hope do we have of signing Messi if we cant keep a 17year old who has played for 4 months?

Sorry re read it again, be in Barcelona in 3.4 years, Cortese does plan holidays well in advance...............................

Succession planning is so important for us if we want to advance in the premier league. At the moment Shaw is doing OK, a few mistakes here and there but hopefully they'll decrease rapidly as he's shown to be an exceptional player with a great temperament. Lose him end of next or more likely a couple of seasons time then he'll be difficult to replace like for like. This is the trap Arsenal have fallen into and where the club can minimise the impact of bringing in a new player by developing players ourselves where players are known and first team suitability can be assessed in a controlled manner.

Way I see it, Luke Shaw is one of the top young talents in the country at the moment.

In the off-transfer season (outside of window) there isnt a great deal to talk about. Big clubs are always linked to the best players, Luke Shaw is perhaps one of the best in his age group at present, so is bound to get linked with a move to the top clubs.

I'm not saying this makes it true or untrue, just that it's inevitable that he will be linked elsewhere. Chelsea may well be interested, that doesn't necessarily mean they will sign him this summer.

Personally, I think it would be a mistake for him to go there at this time in his career. He is getting regular Premier League experience, at a club renowned for developing young players, with a manager who has a burgeoning reputation for doing the same.

Contrast this with Chelsea, who have not bought a young player through to the first team successfully since John Terry. This is most likely due to the managerial instability at the club, where pressure is so great to gain immediate results that players are bought for now, and little forethought is given to the future. Cole, like him or not, is still top quality (annoyingly), he has arguably been the best (certainly at least amongst the best) LB in the world this century, so far. Shaw would go there, and probably still play second fiddle to Cole.

I know he is a Chelsea fan, and he will most likely end up there, or at United etc and fair enough. I don't see why the club would have made such a big deal about him agreeing to an extension if they weren't reasonably certain he would sign it. When he does go, we will most likely make a killing on him, which can only really benefit the club, if invested well in infrastructure (which we have proven we are good at) and new players.

Lots of noise, no point.

Well it would make Cortese and his ambitions look silly, but then you can't do much if a player wants to leave, except drive up the price. 10m isn't so much these days, we got 15m for AOC in L1 ffs. Young English talent is priced high...I don't recall why, but it is. So double it for a start. If he went for 20m, annoying but good business, especially if they believe in the other young LB we have. Wouldn't want him loaned back though, that system just seems to make a mockery of the league, big clubs with so much money they can spend fortunes and let us small clubs have their players. Like WBA, just a few places below Chelsea but relying on their young striker. Yet when Chelsea play them, he can't play, so they buy an advantage. No idea why clubs are allowed to loan players to the same league.

My ambition is for me to duet with Madonna but no one believes me, Cortese and his ambitions are just as believable, people who do believe in them are crop circle lovers and meet fairies on Sunday for a bevy...............................

It was relevant, I dont believe Corteses ambitions to be realistic and people that belive them to be misled, I think I said that above, this is about keeping players and therefore that ambiton.

Thing is, you and Turkish go on about how you are the maligned minority shouting in the face of doubters, when I really struggle to see many people that think we are likely to be there anytime soon?

There are some that think it is not impossible, though unlikely. And those that think as long as we don't over stretch ourselves in pushing for this, there is no harm in reaching for the top.

what tosh If he was worth 10 million before then the way has performed since then his price will be closer to 20 million

I know attacking players generally attract higher fees, but if Oxo was worth £15m after 2/3's in L1, whilst in the Championship. What is Luke Shaw worth after 2/3's of a season in the Premiership, especially if we stay up.

The only way I can see Luke Shaw leaving is if wants it himself, or if Chelsea are willing to pay silly money.

He is from Kingston, so West-London, and apparently a Chelsea fan. Wouldn't surprise me massively, and if the deal is right, I would find it hard to hold it against him wanting to go play for the team he supports, in the CL and challenging for more titles than he would be likely to here.

Everyone has a price... but Luke will be the first test for Cortese with repsect to his 'need to create an environment and culture where young players want to stay'

Like most, belive he will leave at some point as offers will eventually become to good to turn down.... but I want to see the club move away from selling th best talent at 17/18 and holding onto these players until they are at least 21/22 - we get the benefit of their talent for several seasons, and also realise their TRUE value. He develops at the rate he has done, in 3 years time he will be 25-30mil.

I just hope Luke recognisies that he is better off here for the time being regards his development, and is not a 'I want it now' type that so many youngsters seem to have become in this day and age.

So would people take a deal similar to the Wayne Bridge deal. I.e. sell him for a decent amount and then give us one of their like for like players and pay most of the wage.

I guess Cole would be the obvious based on age, but whether he would actually come here is a complete different matter.

I'd imagine Bertrand is likely, wouldn't be an awful deal. Can't see Cole coming to SMS. Imagine after Chelsea he would go US or China or somewhere similar for $$$.

Brilliantly well written artcile which clearly came from a reliable source. The Mail has a record for being spot on with 'our' reporting and clearly is ITK when it comes to things going on here and at chelsea.

... hardly Pulitzer Prize stuff... and not actually any news. Chelsea want Shaw - nothing shocking there, 'continuing dicussions' = increased offer/alternative T+Cs...pretty much expected if they are keen. 'confident' - well would they really publish anything that said 'reducing confidence'... Lots of interest for Shaw (pun intended) andmore to come no doubt. Difference these days is that we are in aposition to ensure any deal must be right for us. Big Test for NC
