not convinced ramirez will ever deliver

ramirez just doesnt seem to want to play for us whole heartedly a skilled player there can be no doubt but in terms of contribution has to be one of our poorest. Do you think he will still come good or would he have come good by now if was going to. has he had long enough to improve?

Posted

He might be too lightweight for the Premier League and I'm not sure he really wants to be here any more. Nor am I sure that Pochettino has a lot of faith in him. I'd be surprised if he's here at the start of next season.

He shouldn't have been on the bench today, and he certainly shouldn't have come on sooner than Punch - he's only in the team due to his price tag. Until the manager can find a place for him in the team which doesn't make us an instantly worse team we shouldn't be gambling with him until the season is over. There have been far far too many times now where he has either come on or gone off and we have looked like a much better team for it to be coincidence.

I'm not suggesting he isn't a talented player as he has his moments, maybe he just won't be one here and we need to cut our loses. Veron was a class player but looked like a fish out of water at Man Utd.

I don't want to see him for the rest of the season, barring injuries (and by that I mean after - J Rod, Punch, Lallana, Davis and Do Prado) - hopefully after then and with a pre-season and MP in for a while he can start to show something.

clearly doesn't fit in with our style at all is this our scouts fault or do you believe he was purely a cortese signing? as Adkins didn't seem to want him

Very poor again today. No penetration and totally wasted a free kick in a dangerous area with a wild and pointless attempt at goal.

The thing that irks me most about him is that when he tries to waltz through the oppo's defence and inevitably gives the ball away, his immediate reaction is not to try and win it back, but to fall over and complain to the referee before walking off in a huff doing that stereotypical South American hand-shrug gesture he does.

what took you so long to start this thread?

after every game we dont win and he´s on the pitch......ffs....

What did you see that Davis and JRod do better today??

22 years old, lot of potential, struggled this season as many do their first season i PL. Wouldn't write him off yet, but if he continue like this next season, Juventus can have him.

Although I think Ramirez is rubbish, let's not bring to much attention to the fact lesws he loses value before we ship him out to Florentino in the summer. Think he's going in one direction, back to Italy.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Thierry Henry

Didier Drogba

All had woeful first seasons. All turned out to be not too bad in the end.

all were worth their places in sides challenging for the title though..

ramirez is not at all in a team 16th place

Don't think you can really judge him on today, he was only on the pitch about 10 minutes!! He's shown a lot of promise but not consistent enough. Also he's looked far far better at home when we had him playing in the middle. I'm sure he will come good.

Bit of a conundrum. Look, he's a young lad in a new country, in a new league. He's going to take some time to settle. He arrived with a massive price tag which has done nothing but heap pressure on his shoulders. Anyone who says he is crap or talentless clearly knows nothing about football and should stick to knitting. Given time, and played in his natural position, ie the 'number 10' position with a bit more freedom, I'm convinced he will become an excellent player. The problem for Saints is can we afford to have what is in effect a luxury player in a back against the wall, relegation battle type game?

A lot of sense here, good post. He's young and I think everyone agrees he has shown flashes of real class (just too inrefequently so far!) so he may well come good. If we go down questions will be asked about it being a big signing too soon but should we stay up I'd back him to look much better next season after a solid pre season.

Nah, he had about 30 mins out there. All he did was fall over twice, dive and pick up a yellow card.

For £12m you expect a player like him to come off the bench and influence things. He doesn't seem to be capable of that. He's the sort of player we could end up carrying if we go on a really bad run. IMO anyway.

Some of us have been saying this for weeks. Injury prone and looks over-priced. £12m

Buys you a lot of centre back, something we've needed this season. Could end up costing us

lol, usual stupid threads appearing after a loss, player comes of the bench for what 25 minutes and doesn't win the game on his own he's clearly rubbish

I don't think he works with Rickie,Ramirez looks like the type to feed the striker looking to beat the defender,Rickie is not that type of player,You can see he is a very intelligent player and looks to play it quick,he may work better with a forward with a bit of pace Mayuka/ J-rod,but they can't play on there own up front like Rickie does.

Thats clearly not what we are saying no one on here has said he's rubbish, more that he's hugely underperforming there is a difference

Well for me he's missed too many chances, the most glaring was the Jayrod penalty incident v Villa, the ball came back to him to be put in in the net not row Z

final ball not there on a regular basis , and I'm afraid I just expect him to lose the ball rather than anything constructive come from it, if he's £12m what AL worth?

Shall we swap him for Samba? After all, they need goals and they paid £12m for a CB. Surely only a fool would do a thing like that.

This.

Hopeful that provided we stay up we'll have a brand new signing on our hands. Look at Fellaini, he was nothing on the player he is now when he joined Everton.

I do agree however that if we go down then it was a disaster signing but still don't see us going down. Need to back him. Confidence appears an issue with him.

You must have a short memory, Ronaldo was brilliant in his first season, and Henry got 17 league goals....

Considering AL's shooting... about the same.

Ronaldo was a show pony to start with and regarded as a bit of a mummy's boy by other United players.

Henri came as a winger who took a while to hit the target in his first season.

Remember Drogba being always impressive, even before he joined Chelsea.

Someone made a good point about Fellaini, a player I thought was crap at first but who clearly isn't but isn't he another that's been asked to play a different role from that which he played when he arrived.

So lets not give up on Ramirez just yet. There's obviously talent there. It's up to the Manager to make the most of it.

Henry got 17 league goals and 26 goals in all competitions, if that's not "hitting the target" I don't know what is?

He'll be fine, he's just waiting for the other players to get on his wavelength.

Seriously, he just seems to be a complete fish out of water in the PL. Good technical ability but **** poor decision making most of the time.

Does himself no favours with refs when he goes down so easily but on the other boot, he gets no protection from refs at all; other teams just seem to double up on him and push, shove, kick, trip, bundle him to the ground and he hardly ever gets a free kick. If he was as 'good' as he is supposed to be you would think he would be learning and improving from game to game, unfortunately while most players have come on leaps and bounds virtually no improvement from his first performance to today.

Let's get shot at the end of the season, wish him well, and move on. Happens all the time in football, he's certainly not irreplaceable.

Hes young in a foreign country has been hampered by injuries had a change of manager and playing system and also has the pressure of a hefty price tag give the guy a chance ?

I said he took a while to hit the target not that he failed to hit the target. In other words I'm not disagreeing with you and I think Ramirez is worth persevering with because he'll come good as long as the Manager, who after all is best placed to do so, can find a way to get the best from him.

This. Also hasn't he lost his father as well in the last few months? Can't be easy for the lad.

plenty of overseas players have taken a while to settle in. Pires is a prime example. If Ramirez was 28/29 then I'd be very worrie,d but he's still only 21 and if we give him time he'll be a superstar for us.

Posted

Clearly has bags of ability, will be very up and down this season - young, away from home, learning English still, picked up a few annoying injuries, change of manager.

People are right to look at Ronaldo's first season at United - 40 games, g goals. Not saying for a second he will be as good as that, but it's far too early to write him off just because we splashed out on him.

Didnt hear any of this chat after the Aston Villa and Newcastle home games, when he destroyed them, or when he drilled in that finish against Arsenal either.

Calm down, and give him time

Posted
Been very disappointed with him, despite the talent clearly being there. Makes the wrong decision a lot and invariably ends up just giving it away.

I should add that I don't think for a second we should sell him, I do believe he can be a big player for us but I don't think it'll be this season.
