Stud mark of doom Posted 22 February, 2013 Share Posted 22 February, 2013 MP's reaction in the press conference to a quote from Nigel, that Gazza might be a future Argentina keeper, was interesting. I got the impression he couldn't quite believe what he was hearing. First in English and then in Spanish!

Why haven't they put the Steven Davis interview up?

dubai_phil Posted 23 February, 2013 Share Posted 23 February, 2013 (edited) Thought his reaction to that was quite amusing. Bit of an odd press conference all round. Why haven't they put the Steven Davis interview up? Jeez the guy asking all the questions at the start seems almost as sharp as #factlessallen. Why didn't he just ask him to name his team! lol re Gazza - He needs to improve a lot... Learn to relax.... Need to take it really easy with him, never know how young players will react when thrown into the deep end.... We need certain skills and abilities from our keepers that he needs to polish a lot. Better he stays here and learns than going out on loan... Interesting Edited 23 February, 2013 by dubai_phil
Andre Posted 23 February, 2013 Share Posted 23 February, 2013 Depends on how much game time with a 'big club' he gets. You need to start early to claim your place, although tbh there's not really a whole lot of competition so yeah, why not?
Maggie May Posted 23 February, 2013 Share Posted 23 February, 2013 I think he meant he's a future goalkeeper from Argentina, as at the moment he's certainly far off one.
Berkshire Saint Posted 23 February, 2013 Share Posted 23 February, 2013 Certainly has the potential + ability Why do people say this? Apart from one very good save against Newcastle he's been dreadful!

I think you'll find he is a goalkeeper and he is from Argentina so not far of one at all, he is one. Wake up maggie!
supersonic Posted 24 February, 2013 Share Posted 24 February, 2013 he'll have to learn how to catch first. Judging by the Argentina U21's Keeper I saw play the other day on ESPN, Gazza has a long way to go, very long way
Mowgli Posted 24 February, 2013 Share Posted 24 February, 2013 Good grief. He's 21 years old and already has Premier League experience. Very rare for a goalkeeper to prove his worth at that age and very foolish to predict whether he will make it or not. He has 10 years to go before he is even approaching his peak. He has a contract here. He has presence about him and he has confidence. Plenty to build on.
Thedelldays Posted 24 February, 2013 Share Posted 24 February, 2013 He will need to go out on loan to the NpC and shine before being a prem keeper good enough for where we want to be
Lord Duckhunter Posted 24 February, 2013 Share Posted 24 February, 2013 I just love where all this "potential" has come from . I lost count of the number of "he clearly has ability" posts we've had about this guy. He is quite young for a keeper, but has not looked anything like good enough this season. He's cost us points, even when we've won (QPR) he looked like Mike Gatting fielding a googlie. From what I can tell his "ability" and "potential" is based on, one save against Newcastle, Good timewasting, good kicking, Nigel playing him. If I remember correctly Bart was younger than him when he made his debut, and at that time looked a class above this guy.

Has made the odd poor decision and looked to feel the pressure but who in our back five didnt at the start of the season? Made a few decent saves, had a bit of presence around the box and distributes well. So yeah that kind of sums up potential. Has shown flashes of promise but needs to iron out the mistakes. As others have pointed out he's very young in gk terms and has only had a one full season of being a first team regular - keep him learning from borucs and kds experience, help him cut out the mistakes and learn to cope with the pressure and one day he could be cracking. Are you really THAT sure he'l never come good?
